Sony. Hands down. They got too cocky, and let them get ahead of themselves.

ChiChiMonKilla

People are still buying PS3's, when retailers start sending PS3's out into the Arizona desert where all the Atari Jaguars are then you can start the violin music, but until then Sony is still pretty much in the game.

People still bought the GC until Nintendo recently pulled the plug, but the writing was on the wall years ago...Lets stop being hypocritical about the PS3 because its a Sony machine. If the PS3 was made by MS, Ninty or Sega we all know that the system would be considered a massive failure regardless if people are currently buying it....

failure =/= immediate death of a system, just ask the N64...

Game On...

How is the ps3 a failure it's selling faster than the ps2 in the same time frame and faster than the 360 for the past month??

Take of your fanboy goggles please join us in the real world

Take your fanboy and beer goggles off..The Sony clan is comparing the PS3 sales (a system readily available of shelves since launch) to a system that was damn near sold out for almost a year (PS2)?!?!? Gotta love that twisted fanboy logic. As for your PS3 clearance sale, save that for the uniformed gamer who fell for that hustle...

Ownage denied

Thankyou the ps2 is still selling with the best3rd party support and the ps3 sales for the past month have passed the 360's while at the 2007 e3 sony owned all. Why sony is even being mentioned is beyond me ??

Sorry to inform you but last gen systems sales serves no purpose this gen (you dont see other companies touting sale figures for old products do you? The 2004 Mercedes is eating up the sales charts!!! Sounds silly doesnt it?). And we as gamers know the real reason why the PS3 passed 360 sales this month so no real accomplishment there. I find it funny how Sony fans will make a sales comparison with the 360 but forget to add that the Wii stomped everyone in sales...OOOoooh the PS3 sold well for a few weeks whoopty doo, my friend....Thats like celebrating your favorite fighter finally got in a good combination on the opponent, but ignore the fact he is being brutally beaten the entire bout.

As for your claim that Sony owned E3 07, thats just a opinion shared by few but the majority felt that the entire show was dull and boring with no clear cut winner.

Game On...

Thats because no other companies in the gaming market have sales figures on last gen consoles to tout:)

And I think the biggest "fall of grace" was Atari followed by Nintendo followed by Sony. Atari killed a whole market, cmon, instant win there:P Nintendo were the big thing but then they lost it all to the playstation(all though now it seems they are taking it all back) Sony was the big thing, Playstation was "cool" and popular. Everyone wanted a playstation and loved sony but then sony ruined it all with crap PR and pricing their console too high.

Sony shouldn't be in that list. The PS3 is not dead yet, far from it. There's still a long way to go.

To answer your question, i'll have to say Sega, much to my dislike. I wish they were still around.

no_submission

The PS3 doesnt have to be dead for it to fall...Just as the Walkman product line was once a bad mofo, its struggling to be seen in a market with fierce competitors. the same can be said with the PS3.

Game On...

Listen the facts are right their in front of you, Atari had the biggest screw up followed by Sega.

In your last post(long unnecessary post) you said Sony lost support... Proof? Cause last time I checked PS3 is getting/has plenty of third party multiplats while Wii on the other hand......:(

Sorry but for a product line to have damn near 90% of the industry support (Xbox 1 got scraps from Japanese devs, and mainstream ports didnt utilize the hardware, Ninty was just left in the cold), to have its rivals share/surpass its support is down right embarrassing. Just because devs havent completely jumped ship doesnt mean things are peachy in Sonyland. If the PS3 was what it was touted to be devs would not have even considered supporting the 360, they would have left it alone until Sony launched as they once did with the Dreamcast...

As for the Atari, yeah they made mistakes, big huge mistakes, but it was from a time where the world really didnt care about the outcome of gaming (notable business but still considered a hobby). But to witness the current issues with Sony and clout they have lost in a industry they help built, has a heavier impact.

Im not downplaying Atari and their issues, but IMO they come up second. When Atari fell, console gaming wasnt as popular as it is today (arcades was still the place to be). Also Nintendo was there to pick up the pieces and run with it to make a new market. If Sony fell out of the gaming business (I said IF fanboys, not will....), I know MS or Nintendo isnt strong enough to do it alone in this day and age of gaming. Its the ying yang concept, you need balance of the market. With Sony and their issues, that balance has been disturbed greatly which could lead to overall lack of innovation in the market...

[QUOTE="PelekotansDream"]SEGA, sony have done real bad recently but they aint out of making consoles like SEGA is.gingerdivid
SEGA did nothing wrong with games and hardware, but they totally annoyed their fanbase with limited support for expansions like the 32X by discontinuing it early to make way for the Saturn, where Atari failed on all levels.

And that is exactly what they did wrong.

You sir are in denial sony is "not" out of the race by a long shot. The ps3 sold faster than the ps2 and 360 in the same time frame and cost $200 to $300 more. The ps2 is still sellingmore console hardware and softwarethan nintendo and microsoft combined.

Atari definately.

and stop with the damage control cows. the ps3 isa failure so far and deserves to be on the list.

No excuses, no "but the price", no "but the 3rd partys" no "but the 2008"

Right now in the present time ps3 is coming a distant last, now compareto last gen, in which they came a very, very distant first and thats what I would call a pretty big flop.

Sorry cows just telling it like it is. If it comforts you I'd much rather see sony doing well than microsoft but sony has to learn from the mistakes they made this gen, and cows will be much better off next gen hoopefully,

Atari.

Sega's and Sony's fall didn't effect the industry as greatly as Atari's ...

daqua_99

On paper Atari issues would make it seem like the #1 company to fall from grace, but thats not true. The so called "gaming market crash" was all but invisible to the gamers of that era. The only people that took the hit were the stock holders of the various companies, but overall the gamer didnt know or care what was going on. As a gamers all we knew was (because there were no news outlets for gaming) that we were playing Atari and Colecovision and all of a sudden this Japanese made Nintendo thingy was the new futuristic item being touted....nothing more.

In this day and age of information technology, we have access to the news almost before the company can officially announce it. Gaming is a high visability industry these days and knwoing the "In's and Out's" happening within Sony is the reason why I feel they have fallen the most from grace.

Think of it this way, who would fall further from fall grace Apple of the 1970's, 80's or Microsoft of today? Thats the point Im trying to make folks...

I have read your Sony fanboy based drivel over the last few days, come back with a clear head about gaming. Once again you are comparing sales from globally sold out systems (PS2. 360) to sales of a readily available system (PS3)...no contest. But hey when you want to believe in the hype Sony fed you this gen, a fanboy will hang onto every word as if its law...

In case you havent been keeping up with gaming trends, previous gen systems always sell more when newer systems hit the market. You do know there are some folks who enjoy gaming but cant afford the lastest and greatest, so previous gen systems with and boatload of games for pennies on the dollar works for them...

Sony lost money on the PS2 at launch but made it back quickly through software and accessories sales. Once the production costs went down for the system is when Sony really started rolling in the dough. This gen the financial hit per console is at a record high, combine that with the curernt flow of sales and that doesnt make for a pleasing number for the shareholders.

A few Million back then translates to a lot of money today. The fact remains that Sony aren't destroying the NA market and are still making hardware, unlike Atari. Atari in thier time were the fastest growing company the world had ever seen and made gaming mainstream. Yet they were partly responsible for destroying the NA market years later. That is a "fall from grace".

Sony lost money on the PS2 too, MS lost money on the Xbox and they are losing money on the 360, all in the name of MARKETSHARE which is generally worth the loss.

Game On...

So, what makes you think that the PS3 cannot do the same?

Let's see here Twice the amount of the original console. A lot of PS2s were sold when it was $200 with GTAIII, including my own. The Xbox was unproven, the PS2 every cool kid had. This time the Xbox is out first with GTA on day one. Why are they going to dish out $150-250 more for equal or lesser graphics and no Halo 3. It's the casuals who win a console race, don't forget Madden is on the way also. The 360 userbase is huge compared to the PS3 and devs want to make money = devs making games for the 360. The same way it happened to the PS2.

ChiChiMonKilla

You sir are in denial sony is "not" out of the race by a long shot. The ps3 sold faster than the ps2 and 360 in the same time frame and cost $200 to $300 more. The ps2 is still sellingmore console hardware and softwarethan nintendo and microsoft combined.

Game On...

Orly so how come the previous gen cube and xbox are not selling more than the 360 and wii lol.

So facts are sony based drivel now lmao

I am a hermit you don't want to see what happens in the pc vs consoles debate if you think I like sony so much

No YOUR facts are fanboy drivel. Sony pumped the fanboys up full of bogus info and now ya'll are running around like you are a informed gamer with one-sided, extremely bias info "fastest selling system this, record breaking system that" only Sony and its supporters are reporting the garbage.... As for you being hermit, you must have a jeckyl and hide syndrome because if you arent talking about pc gaming, you are hyping the PS3 to the ends of the Earth.

As for you comments about previous gen systems, just because the economically challenged gamer cant afford the lastest and greatest doesnt mean they will just grab any previous gen system available. They pick up the popular system of that era...in this case the PS2. But sales did spike for the Xbox1 and GC as well, just not consistent sales. Also there is no predetermined cut-off point where people stop buying previous gen consoles....the sell while supplies last!!

Game On...

Here's a question, TC.

Which company still has to attain grace?

Which company has the bulk of its hype, this gen, because of coming out with no competition?

Which console would be flopping is released at the same time as the other two?

With the pricedrop and apps like LPB coming, it's inevitable that Sony will expirence some kind of rise, granted Sony have fallen, however things are looking promising and it's a safe bet Sony will rise. Unlike Sega and Atari.

After the inevitable price drop and with plenty of quality multi-plats and exclusives, constantly outshining competition at events like E3, the PS3 is bound to pick up. Take Gran Tourismo, a franchise that has sold over 40 million is bound to give Sony a boost, because PS3 dosen't have GTA first dosen't mean it will loose money. GTA was one of many games that sold PS2's.

Sony.

Seriously that was just bloody embarrassing.

You have a colossal first entrance. And even bigger sophomore, then you get a giant third flop.

Hey, it's like Sony's own Spiderman movie franchise

I'd still get the console though, it looks to have good games.

FrozenLiquid

Eeeew.... good point about the stinker known as "Spider(Emo)man 3". The best threequel this summer, anyways, is "Bourne Supremacy"! Anyways, I would have to pick Sony as having the biggest fall from grace, so to speak. To dominate the way it did with the PS2, only to have the PS3 come out as subpar, and below (and STILL below) expectations is a pretty big deal. No, they arent dead, and probably wont be... but they wont win this generation.

Atari.

While the rest of you argue what exactly "fall from grace" means, I'm going to point out that Atari did it in every possible way.

They put out a boatload of crap, highlighted by ET.

They isolated everybody who played games and caused the crash.

They lost tons of money.

They went out of the hardware business altogether.

They hit it out of the park: a Grand Slam of failure.

Indeed, they went from making console gaming mainstream to releasing the Atari Jaguar which was the worst selling console of all time. It baffles me how people can possibly think otherwise.
