Now, time for my expert analysis.
Let's start with the Wii. I am seeing some good variation in exclusives here. We have 2 of the best 3D platformers ever made in the Galaxy titles. New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a ****c 2D side scroller with amazing cooperative play, and Super Paper Mario is vastly different than any Mario game ever made, keeping things fresh. I see 1 Donkey Kong, 1 Kirby, 1 Smash Bros., 1 Metroid, 1 Punch-Out!!, and a bunch of other very unique titles, giving Wii the crown for most diversity in exclusives and the least milked. It's funny how that works, isn't it? People always claim that Nintendo milks, but they have the least milkage at the end of the day.
What about the PS3? I'm seeing some good diversity here as well. Not the same level of diversity as the Wii, but it's definitely decent. We have the beloved Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, a masterpiece of a game, you can't just milk those, those take real effort to make. Uncharted has seen an entire trilogy this generation, but thankfully Uncharted was a new intellectual property introduced this generation and was completely absent in the last. I see a couple Killzone games, a couple inFamous games, a couple Ratchet and Clank games, a couple Resistance games, so not entirely original, but not too bad either. The saving grace here for the PS3 are the insanely original titles that help build the PS3 exclusive foundation. We're talking about titles like Valkyria Chronicles, Heavy Rain, Demon's Souls and God of War 3. Those games are not being milked whatsoever, and have left a lasting impression on this generation as a whole, which is impressive due to the fact that they achieve this through delivering a single amazing experience, and not by shoving annual releases down your throat.
Ah, and last but not least, the Xbox 360. Let me just say, if you're an Xbox 360 only owner, let's hope that you're not lactose intolerant, because you're getting milk for days. Let's just say, if the game isn't 5 years old, it is Halo, Forza or Gears. Sony got it right with Gran Turismo 5, release 1 racing sim, it isn't like we need the same game 4 times. I mean, you can't exactly reinvent a racing simulator multiple times within the same generation, as evidenced through Forza's lack of innovation. I like Halo, and thank God for that because I have enough to last me a lifetime. Gears of War was a solid trilogy no doubt. It's just a shame that GeoW didn't have a story to fall back on, or any sort of gameplay mechanics aside from shooting grubs to experiment with, because I ultimately felt like I was playing Gears of War 1 during my time with 2 and 3. At least with Uncharted, there are captivating stories to follow, puzzles to solve, platforming sequences, verticality in the gameplay allowing you to approach different scenarios in different ways. But with Gears, it felt like same ol' same ol'. I own Forza 1, 2 and 4. I own Gears of War 1, 2 and 3. I own Halo Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Reach, Halo Wars and Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary. I've played all these games to death, so unlike the vast majority of the people on these boards, I've actually played all the games I talk about, and I don't just belittle games because they aren't on my console of choice.
So, which console exclusive lineup do you think is the most guilty of milkage?
