That's a good question. I have no idea. I know, why don't you remove the fans from your ps3 and 360 (assuming you have both) and let them run until they both burn up. Then come back and post the results! I'm excited!

Maybe you got confused and actually stuck your hand in a tub of butter in the refridgerator and thought it was your xbox360.

Well my results were that the PS3 dosnt overheat that fast. I also found out that if you leave your PS3 on for 24hrs it wont burn but. but on the other hand the xbox 360 would die and explode.

Are they the ones who leave their 360's on the rug and don't plug them into a wall socket? I left mine on for 12 hours and it was still fine.

Yes. Everyone here: http://forums.xbox.com/281/ShowForum.aspx leaves their 360's on the rug. Good reasoning.

take your fans out of your Xbox and PS3. then, drain the oil out of your car. now turn all 3 on. this should be exiting.

None of the above, if the system's too hot, its BIOS will shutdown the system from frying or will not allow it to turn on. However, I'd say the PS3 because of the XDR and the Cell. Rambus is known for creating very hot RAM. gnutux

The ring of death(3 red lights) means a harware failure , this is the most the comon one.

The 2 left red lights means overheat.

Wow, you really are blind, aren't you? This thread is about overheating consoles, not getting the three red lights. That usualy isn't caused by overheating. Raise your IQ before you post.

I had no idea you were an Xbox360 handyman. The three red lights indicate hardware failure. Most likely due to inadequate cooling. Thanks for playing. You are dismissed.

Hardware failures DOES NOT mean overheat. It means that there is memory jams, something was loose when manufactured, or core components were improperly installed. However, if it truly overheated, the general hardware fault can only occur if it deformed something badly. Which is, rare. I haven't seen an overheated XBOX 360 in the open before, so I have yet to see one to believe it. gnutux

I can only speak from my perspective, but my 60gb hasn't had a single problem from day 1. It hasn't given me a lick of trouble.

On topic: 360 has the higher failure rate, though it's been seemingly significantly reduced.

Judging how hot my PS3 gets and how loud (and presumably volume translates into size and strength) the fan is I can't imagine it lasting long without a fan.

When I had my old 360 pro, I would have said 360 hands down. However, I find my new elite to remain quite cool and it runs noticeably quieter as well. If I had to guess, I would say that the 360 gets hotter, but without some way of measuring there is no real way to tell. I do know that Microsoft has quite obviously improved the design of the 360 somewhat. I noticed an immediate difference in the Elite.

my fan went out on my 60 gig ps3 . 3 days later it got ylod. the fans made this loud noise like a jet going over my house. im guessing the fans died. but after that it only lasted 3 days.

i also say ps3 gets alot hotter then 360 thats both 60 gig ps3 and my new 250 gig slim. it just has better fans. but if they go out your in big trouble.
