It has been a while since I last visited this place. And since I have been away from console gaming for a while, I was actually thinking of once again giving it another chance. It is not like I will purchase a next-gen console (the WiiU, etc.) anytime soon, so why not stick with the most current consoles? Just so you know, I used to own a 360, but I only had COD:MW, and I hardly used it, so I eventually sold it. Likewise, I own a Wii, am not interested in any of titles (particularly those that consist of an E rating), and have not played it since. Now that the PS3 has experienced a price drop, I was tempted to buy it next.

Because I am most likely not going to end up playing online for a long time, I thought that a PS3 would seem more reasonable. Of course, there was the recent PSN hack that occured, but that could have happened to anyone, regardless of how tight one's security is. Also, there's the fact that the 360 has the RROD. So, with the pros and cons listed here, which console should I buy?

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I do not really care that much for Japanese games or for exclusives, so I guess what otherwise would be advantageous for the PS3 is not in my best interest.

Not much of a Halo fan, don't need a Blu-Ray player, and I basically can play games across pretty much any genre there is.

the 360 is the one with the bigger library and more critically acclaimed games. it also has more variety, spanning 16 genres compared to ps3's 13. oh and it doesn't share as many of its games with the pc as the ps3 does ;)

Thanks for the advice. I will probably need to think it over a little more before I make a final decision.

I'd recommend you get a ps3. you miss out on more if you get an xbox 360. Ps3 also has more variety among types of games ranging from open world games like infamous and shooters like uncharted and completely unique games like heavy rain. also sony has more and better 1st party developers than mircrosoft so that mean better and more exclusives

also with xbox your gonna have to pay for online.

Compare the exclusives. Look at the downloadable content and games available. Do you want to pay for online or not? Do you want a blu-ray player, or dvd player? Look at the future of both consoles. Are you fine with Microsofts heavy push for Kinect, and not so heavy push for core exclusives? Are you fine with Sony's implementation (of lack there of) of the PS Move? Do exclusives matter to you? These are questions only you can answer. Weigh these items against each other and make your decision.

I never get these statements. The online experience on both are almost identical, yet inferior to PC. Unless you like talking to other people on your friends list about things not related to the game you're playing. In which case, I present you the telephone. It's a marvelous invention.

I say the PS3, and unless you like playing Gears of War or Multiplats, the PS3 has a pretty wide selection of games coming out this year.

Theyre both great you cant go wrong with choosing either of them. Personally I prefer the 360. RRoD is basically gone on the newer models. You also shouldnt have to worry about you PSN ID getting hacked if youre not going to play online much. Just look at the games for each console and see which ones you prefer also consider which one more of you close friends have if youre planning on playing online in the future and choose that one. But if i had to choose I would go with a 360.

it has and it hasnt, theres pro's and cons for both consoles considering you always play the multiplats are better arguement im gonna let this slide.

I prefer the PS3 exclusives especially LBP, thats one game the 360 doesnt have anything close to.

If you like playing Online games than you should get an Xbox 360. Yeah I know PSN is good too but overall XBL is a lot better.

Then buy whatever console you want. The only real difference between 360 and PS3 are exclusives, if you dont care about them, it doesnt matter what will you buy.

I prefer the PS3's exclusive games, so I would recommend that. And when it boils down to it, I think that should be one the biggest influences over the purchase. With most games being available on both consoles (and playing just fine on both), you should carefully look at what each console has that is unique to itself.

i know 360s got cross game chat but if a person wants to play online then is there really a difference playing the game. a person on 360 playing black ops and on ps3 is getting the same experience. the only bonus 360 has is cross game chat. its the same game played either on 360 online or ps3 online...so i dont understand why its more superior.

Here how it goes, if you want early map pack access to COD map packs, buy 360.

If you want better single player exclusives, buy PS3.

If you want a better multiplayer experience, buy 360.

If you want a crappy service that goes down for a month keeping everyone in a scare for their personal details, buy a PS3.

If you want to chat to your friends, communicating to them, buy 360.

If you want to good DLC games, arcade titles, buy 360.

If you want blu ray player, buy PS3.

It all comes down to preferences, In my opinion, 360 is better for me.

Sorry, but I've got to tell you this really isn't the place to ask. You need to figure out the games you like, and the features you like, and purchase based on that.

The PS3 has a greater value proposition given the free online and Blu-Ray player included, but can be a bit more expensive in the short-term.

The 360 will be cheaper initially and some prefer it's online service, but this will make it more expensive over time if you choose to utilize it.

What I would say is you should evaluate the exclusives and any differences between multiplats you might want to buy. Off the top of my head Demon's Souls and LBP are both brilliant and PS3 has the superior version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadows (currently one of my favorite games oh..ever). Also if you get a 360 and buy it used make sure you have a more recent revision as the older revisions are notoriously unreliable.

Not every year is the same. This year seems to be a very good year for PS3. Next year seems pretty dead for PS3. Also can someone name me more than 3 PS3 exclusive? I can only think of Heavy rain and God of war 3. 2010 wasnt a very good year for PS3. I cant really count MAG. IMO 2010 was a fail for SOny just like it is for microsoft this year.

Half of those games even support Multiplayer. Infamous does not, either does ratchet or clank or god of war. The only games on PS3 that have a worthy MP game is Killzone, MAG. Halo, Gears have really addicting multiplayer unlike PS3 titles.

Uncharted 1, 2, 3

Demon's Souls

Little Big Planet 1 & 2

God of War 3

Infamous 1 & 2

Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time

Killzone 2 & 3

To be clear all of the above are well-reviewed exclusive (A or above, although most are AA or AAA titles).

PS3 > 360 BECAUSE:

* Plays Blu-ray movies

* Has stronger 1st/2nd party support

* Free online

---

360 > PS3 BECAUSE:

* Generally higher-quality multi-platform games

* Better online networking

* More media features

---

The games themselves are subjective.

It all depends on what genres you like to play.

For example, if you love JRPGs, you should pick the PS3, but if you like WRPGs, the 360 is your choice.

You asked for exclusives rather than exclusives from a particular year. Those were the ones that came to mind off the top of my head.

Additionally LBP2, Killzone 3, and Infamous 2 all came out in 2011. Uncharted 3 along with a new Ratchet & Clank game are also due out this year. It may or may not be true that 2010 wasn't as good a year for the PS3, but I haven't really lacked for games on the system at any point this gen, although admittedly I did get a PS3 number of years in.

[QUOTE="shahilsyed"]Err....No. Those games never came out in 2011. Only games that come into my mind that came out in 2010 is God of war 3, Heavy rain and MAG. Why are people getting sensitive on microsoft not having much games. Chill down, PS3 had a bad year in 2011, now 360 is having it.Aidenfury19

Oooops, I meant games for PS3 that came out in 2011. A typo and also another typo. Never meant 2011. I mean 2010. 2010 was a bad year for PS3 owners.

PS3 has a lot more going for it, especially this year.

Drakan11

Not every year is the same. This year seems to be a very good year for PS3. Next year seems pretty dead for PS3. Also can someone name me more than 3 PS3 exclusive? I can only think of Heavy rain and God of war 3. 2010 wasnt a very good year for PS3. I cant really count MAG. IMO 2010 was a fail for SOny just like it is for microsoft this year.

No problem. Demons Souls, Uncharted 2, Infamous and Killzone 3. Thats more than 3 exclusives.

I meant name me more than 3 games that came out in 2010. 2010 was a bad year for ps3.

If you like online multiplayer the 360 is far superior... Sorry, but it's true.

Merex760

I never get these statements. The online experience on both are almost identical, yet inferior to PC. Unless you like talking to other people on your friends list about things not related to the game you're playing. In which case, I present you the telephone. It's a marvelous invention.

eh...alrighty.

PS3, outside of Gears 3 and Kinect there's nothing going for the 360 at the moment. PS3 retails at $250 and you don't have to sink another $50 for online multiplayer (if you're into that). The only thing that should have a sway would be controller preference for shooter games, but otherwise everything is so comparable that the general cost makes the PS3 more worth your money.

2010 PS3e's with Metacritic scores -

  • 92 - God of War III
  • 91 - MLB The Show 10
  • 87 - Heavy Rain
  • 84 - Gran Turismo 5
  • 82 - ModNation Racers
  • 80 - Yakuza 3

Honorable mentions -

  • 77 - 3D Dot Game Heroes
  • 77 - MAG

That's a good year.

As I said before, it seems to be a bad year for microsoft. Next year, probably alot of exclusive will be out. PS3 costs much more money than 360. For 360, you pay for online so its a trade-off. Take your pick.

Yakuza 3 does not count because it came out in 2009 for some parts, also MLB the show only came out for North America so you cant count that either. ModNation Racers is a useless, crappy, kiddy game, if you're gonna count that, that means I can count the kinect titles? So it's 4 games, GOW3, Heavy rain, GT5 and MAG
