im gonna say neither and go with Scotland.

We gave the world GTA,Body Harvest,Wild Metal Country,Crackdown,Lemmings,Manhunt and APB lol. Also Agent aswell being developed here :P Also Proper games up in Dundee developed that Final Fight Final Strike on PSN/XBLA aswell.

For a pretty small country i say we can hold our own in a lot of ways :P and the Rockstar North offices are just round the corner (literally) from my cousin's flat.

Actually, when most people speak of "America," they are referring to the United States of America (a country), not a continent (in actuality, there is no single continent called "America" but two continents: North America and South America).

I am fully aware, I am saying the correct term is United States, its a common misconception to refer to USA as America, but its been so engraved in our culture that its not going to change. Using the word "american" is clearly associated with USA, but its a misuse of the word

I prefer Europe. As for America vs. Japan, it depends, but as of late I've spent more time enjoying American games than Japanese ones.

Its cause we got way too many good franchises :P it would be an insta kill xD..Even just the UK alone would hold its own against the 2 with fair ease.

I don't like to cut it down to a single country, as my favourite games come from all over North America and Europe.

But I much prefer games from the United States. Japanese games are amongst my least favourite.

Yes? During 1980-1990 America was the best, after the 1990's Japan took over the #1 position.

Both. I love all genres of games and both have put out amazing games over the years. Recently NA has been doing great, but if it was an overall (not just this gen) generalization of which is better, it would be Japan.

so it's more like "before 1990 America", otherwise you're saying that America and Japan were best in the same period of time

While you are politically correct, we probably just shortened "The United States of America" to just America. That's what I think probably what happened.

Japan. Lots more creativity if you see the games that are only in Japan. I've lived there and experienced all kinds of gaming (arcade as well) that America lacks.

European Developers and their games... CD Projeckt - The Witcher, the most hardcore RPG. EA Digital Illusions - Battlefield Bad Company 2, the most hardcore FPS. Creative Assembly - Total War, the most hardcore strategy series. Rockstar North - GTA4, the most hardcore sandbox. Frictional Games - Amnesia The Dark Descent, the scariest game ever made. GSC Game World - Stalker Rareware - One of the best classic developers.

Do most Americans think Western games are all from the USA? Like for example do they think Bioware are from the United States? Bethesda sucks.

I will agree that a lot of my favorite Japanese devs have gone down hill big time this gen. Kojima with MGS4, Itagaki with NG2, SE with FF, the mess that was RE5, etc... and even some games that I do enjoy like GT5 still suffer from some archaic design choices.

But even so, my favorite games still come from Japan. I dont think I really need to list all of the excellent games that came from Japan this gen. There are some genres that they still all out own. And when a Japanese game is polished, it is to a ridiculous level that very few western devs can even begin to approach.

And just because some Japanese developers have been on a down hill trend this gen does not mean there is no chance for improvement. The majority of western devs sucked hardcore for a long time and you see how much that changed.

All countries are great .....Japan-Demon Soul's, USA-Uncharted 2, Europe- Killzone 2. And all those games are exclusives on just one system so imagine the countries who make great games in a bigger picture. No such thing as BEST when picking countries who dev. It all boils down to opinions.

yet some of the best games come out of that continent in between. Europe has some of the best games. Crysis, The witcher, dirt 2, stalker series, metro 2033, just to name a few. America is all about your generic shooters.
