I'll play a game from any country, but I do have a slight tendency to like Japanese games more so I'll go with that.

I guess I'll go with the US, though I think you should expand it to US/Canada, because you're missing BioWare, and DICE, to name only a couple.

Fable was developed by Lionhead Studios which is located somewhere in the UK (Don't know where though). It didn't score AAA, which is why you don't see it on the list

Well first of Rockstar North Isn't in England it's in Scotland, I think you meant to say UK in the poll not England.

Secondly Bioshock is a debatable Australia instead of America.

Thirdy, Why no Canada Mass Effect, Assasins Creed, Fifa(Is this 9+?) etc.

Apart from that im going to say America but not by much.

Go Australia! :P

In all seriousness, my opinion backs the raw numbers and though it hasn't typically been this way in the past but Western devs (which for me extends to Britain, Australia, and Canada (isn't Bioware based in Canada, I forget)) are superior to Japanese and Asian developers. But for which country, I still think the U.S. is doing the best job, I still have a hard swallowing GS's judgment on DS being 2009's GOTY. It's great, but U2 is so much more deserving.

I didn't say you were. I think grouping Europe together is a great idea, too, because it makes it easier.

I'm doing it based on geography, which influences what types of games are made. Western developers make western games, but there's a difference in the mindset of NA studios and European studios, and that has to be taken into account. I was not trying to do it by nationality and I'm certainly not trying to offend anyone, especially my northern neighbors. Looking back, that was an extremely poorly worded post. Would North America make you feel better?

Overall, I think NA developers put out the best, however Nintendo make Mario, Zelda, and Metroid, therefore Japan wins by default.

I added Canada and Ubisoft Montreal, but unfortunately those Prince of Persia games don't meet the requirements to get on the list (must be an AAA from this gen).

DICE are swedish, not canadian. Only counting AAA games is also a little silly, and makes the list unrepresentative of reality. 8.5 is not a worthless game.

Counting AA+ games would take up many posts -- there is a limit to how many characters you use Obviously there are a lot of great games not given AAA, but as I said, the list is to just help you formulate an opinion, not give you a perfect representation of the output of each country. The studios and games up there are top-notch and well-recognized, names that might help give you an idea of where your favorite games are made so that you can say where your favorite country for game development is

Can't say i've heard anyone say that up here. I was just out visiting Earth yesterday, what a nice place to visit, you should go one day. :P but anyways, i think N/A games sometimes also seem similar to UK games in style.

Some of my favorite games this generation have been produced in Canada and Japan. But clearly, the United States is the world leader in sheer numbers of good/great games. I don't think anyone else is really close.

Unfortunately, much of Japan has stagnated outside of the handheld market and a select few top-quality game series this gen.

Finland, because of Max Payne and soon to be Alan Wake. :] They also seem to have a big indie scene for some reason. Also Germany for Crytek, but they've opened up studios all over the world now.

WAIW
I used England/UK interchangeably, I actually thought all of those developers were in England anyway. My bad I'll edit in Canada

You're still neglecting the Bioshock Issue. hint: 2K Marin DID NOT MAKE Bioshock 1. They jsut ported the PS3 version.

Japan here. JRPG's are what I play the most and in general Japanese styled games are what I like.

Good idea for the thread but I think it ended up kind of butchered. The polls don't really match up with the body of text, you missed AAA stuff like NHL 09 from EA sports, there is no possible way Australia should be on that list. Consolidate Canada and US to make them North America. Canada has like 2 studios compared to hundreds in the states. Divide them by region, NA, EU and JPN and it would be much more streamlined. All my opinion anyway, just suggestions. I didn't vote because I didn't think it made any sense.
