Which Developer Does Boss Battles Best?

No, it's not Naughty Dog.

It's Platinum Games. That's how I feel. Prawbleh. Their boss battles(not all) are nothing short of brilliant, and more often than not, accompanied by a great soundtrack that makes the fight that much better.

Two things you don't **** with:

1. A witch.

2. A senator.

So, what about you? Any developers you think excels in boss encounters? I won't mention any beyond Platinum FROM SOFTWARE for now, so I'll give you a fellas/fellasinas a chance.

I'd also link to these boss battles and/or soundtracks, but let's be real, you don't care.

From Software! Although admittedly I've never played any platinum game.

Arkham Origins was a shitty game, but I'll admit that the boss battles were pretty awesome. Way better then anything Rocksteady every created.

All of the boss battles in the Metroid Prime series are spectacles.

The almighty Quadraxis from Echos is the greatest boss fight of all time.

At their prime, Konami (probably would have to go with From Software the past few years). You really cant beat Psycho Mantis as a boss fight

God of War games had some dope boss battles, so Santa Monica IMO

Probably who ever made the Bayonetta games. I have not played a Bayonetta game, but I've viewed some boss fights and they're pretty cool.

Also, the worm in Gears of War 2 was cool. Cutting all it's organs and what not. Just my opinion.

Anyway, Jubileus and Mr. Armstrong were no doubt fun to take on and were definitely challenging but they just don't compare to puzzle bosses..... unfortunately there isn't any developer whos specislty is puzzle bosses specifically but the top two candidates are Capcom (because of President Evil) and Vigil Studios (because of Darksiders). The rest are isolated cases like the Viktor Freeze boss fight in Arkham City or the Bed of Chaos in Dark Souls.

platinum games boss fights are usally a spectical and nuts so yea I agree they are up there. I will also say MGS most of the time. Also Most of the RE games have some cool dam bosses. I still remember the very first tyrant mmmm thats good. Also who can forgot nemesis

God of War boss battles are the best in my opinion.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes was one of the finest examples of challenging, creative and truly unique bosses.

Also, Jessica Nigri looked better with real boobs. And I'm a fan of "the bigger the better". She almost looks too fake these days.

I'd say Nintendo as well, but Mario bosses have never impressed me. All their other franchises have had great boss battles.

oh shit. It's been so long since the last time I played a God of War game that I completely forgot about it. But yes, the battles on that series were an industry changer. This franchise gave new meaning to the hack & slash genre, it redefined it.

Nintendo does a pretty good job at them. Capcom used to be on top pre-Resident Evil 5.

I don't really have a solid opinion in 2015, as developers seem to be shifting away from traditional boss fights... Which is sad.

@JangoWuzHere yeah, Arkham Origins actually had some really fun boss fights, but it also had the worst boss fight in the series. Deathstroke was just terrible. He was a mind numbing, simple and overly repetitious series of QTEs

Cant think of a consistent studio but some games that stick out for me... God of War, Resistance 2, Gears of War, all the NES/SNES Marios aaaannnddd most recently for me? The Evil Within. LOVED that game.

From software (Souls), Capcom (DMC, RE) and Kojima productions (MGS, ZOE) are the best ones that come to mind.

Edit: Now that I read up I will include SM studios for GOW just for the spectacle even if gameplay is not the best one.

Not really. As cool as they are, beating them simply comes down to recognizing a pattern. There are some exceptions tho and I do appreciate their creativity.

^ agreed on this. I can't think of any other franchise that consistently has great boss battles designed around the tools given to you like Zelda.

Platinum games and it's not even close.

In fact it's Japanese developers in general. Even with their drop off, they SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT on western developers in terms of boss fights. Santa Monica and Retro Studios are like the only 2 capable of making good boss fights in the west, and Retro works primarily on Japanese IPs.
