You do realize that when you say in essence sony vs. nintendo vs. MS in a question, its not a matter of what is actually better but who is online at the present time, right? You could say which is better Halo or Lair and if there are more sony fanboys on then Lair will win.
Achievements. First of all, they are in ALL games from day 1, so there's a consistency that I don't need to worry about. Also, there's no need to hit a button to synch and no need to log into Xbox.com to update your gamercard if you want to see the change right away. MS makes the data readily available so fan sites can update gamerscore on the fly. This is why places like Raptr and GamerDNA and even our very own Gamspot don't support trophy updates.
I don't like platinums... basically because there's a ton of "trophies" I'm not going to bother w/ cause they're not fun, or even challenging. They're just time consuming, and pointless. Any d-bag w/ the internet and a ton of free time can get em.
Also do avatar awards count as achievements?

Do HOME awards count as Trophies? There is more of those than Avatar awards, and they were around first.
I completely forgot about HOME... for good reason.
Easily cheeves. I hate the whole "syncing" thing you have to do on PS3 to compair trphpies. Also I have had trophies unlock in game and not on my account.
Opinions may vary but in my personal gaming experience, reality of things and educated opinion, Trophies might as well be renamed Bronzies. Why you may ask? Well that is easy to answer. Which trophy do you see the most in your Trophy card? Jump in and Kinect.reanimatedchamp
Trophies seem more profesional to me cause of the level system. While achovments are just bunch of points stacked up with no reason to keep adding countless points to it. Also the sound that a trophy makes is awsome.
I say achievments.Only because when you unlock one you get that big notice at the top of your screen and the cheerful sound effect.When you unlock a trophy you just get a boring black popup at the edge of the screen.
