Killzone 3 for me had the best melee system, it destroys a game like Dead Island or Skyrim on melee, the feedback and satisfaction is total.

Go hunt down a copy of Condemned 2. 90% of the game is First Person Melee (FPS other 10%) and that game was a blast to play.

Condemned had a pretty solid system once you got the hang of it.

Wasn't Condemned a horror game presented in first person view though?
Yes, but melee combat represented a large chunk of the game.
Because of the incredibly tense atmosphere, the melee system was complimented very nicely.
It was also satisfying and had great feedback.
On that list i really like reach, always feels so satisfying when you get up close and beat some guy straight in the face.
Condemned, Dead Island, Condemned 2, FEAR, Riddick. You know, games where melee combat isn't just 'click right stick in front of dude to instawin'

Condemned was my answer too. Had the best melee-focused combat of any fps game I can remember.

But Condmned isn't a FPS (read: First PersonShooter). Don't understand why people aren't making that distinction.[QUOTE="Blueresident87"]

Everything else fails.
No modern game has good FPS melee combat.

Skyrim also lets me cook food, I guess it's a cooking simulator. The Condemned series has never been marketed as an First Person Shooter because it isn't one. You spend like 10% of the games using guns and the rest using melee weapons and your fists. How does that 10% instantly quantify the games as being shooters?[QUOTE="Phoenix534"][QUOTE="AcidSoldner"]But Condmned isn't a FPS (read: First PersonShooter). It doesn't matter how fun they are in the end; even when you do find a gun in Condemned or Condemned 2 you barely get to use it because ammo is incredibly scarce...I actually did enjoy using the guns when I got the chance though. And Condemned is an FPS, anyway...It has guns and you shoot from the first person perspective; what other requirements are there..?[QUOTE="Phoenix534"][QUOTE="AcidSoldner"]But Condmned isn't a FPS (read: First PersonShooter). The game is an FPS because that's what it is; I guess you could classify it as a First Person Combat game or something...but it is still an FPS by default.

It's like people claiming Fallout 3/New Vegas is an FPS and not an RPG. I've seen the argument used before.....
Glad to see I'm not the only one using my brain here. Glad to see I'm not the only one using my brain here. But it looks like some people still don't get it. There's nothing to get...FPS is a genre and every genre has a grey area. You can't say Fallout is exclusively an FPS or an RPG because it is both. Not every game made is going to fall neatly into a genre. Condemned is just as much an FPS as it is a horror game.[QUOTE="AcidSoldner"][QUOTE="NeonNinja"]Glad to see I'm not the only one using my brain here. But it looks like some people still don't get it. That makes no sense whatsoever.
Yeah, I think I might have to go with this or FEAR 1.The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay
Everything else fails.

Oh, totally forgot about FEAR. Slow-mo insta-kill flying kick ftw.

Condemed was the other way around, more of a BEMUP with some shooting here and there. I don't remember clearly but I think you couldn't even reload weapons, they were just like power items that you got here and there on levels. There was just like one level that focused on shooting.
