Pirates vs Vikings vs Knights II

Condemned and Dead Island are the only two FPS (though they are horror games) that I can think of with true melee mechanics.
Killzone has some cool melee kills, but they are just that... kills. It isn't really a system if you just have to do it once for the kill, though I am aware sometimes it does take two brutal melees to finish off an enemy.
Between the two games I mentioned, I'd probably give it to Dead Island for being fairly simple yet satisfying. Condemend had some wonky controls, though they worked once I got used to them. I didn't care for either game though.
There's nothing to get...FPS is a genre and every genre has a grey area. You can't say Fallout is exclusively an FPS or an RPG because it is both. Not every game made is going to fall neatly into a genre. Condemned is just as much an FPS as it is a horror game. But you barely use guns! How the hell do you call something a shooter where you barely even shoot!?[QUOTE="Blueresident87"][QUOTE="AcidSoldner"]Glad to see I'm not the only one using my brain here. But it looks like some people still don't get it.AcidSoldner
That makes no sense whatsoever.
That really isn't even true, it depends more on how you play the game; there is a secondary mode in the game called 'FPS' mode, that seems to put this issue to rest pretty well.
I'm utterly disappointed that people thing mashing a B button equates good melee.
There is only ONE right answer in this thread:
Red Steel 2
Killzone 3's executions were extremely satisfying from what I played of the MP demo, but I wouldn't call them "combat" since all you did was press a button.
Everyone's build was based on the wrench. It was better by default because the guns all sucked.no love for the original Bioshock?? that wrench had some impact... as a matter of fact, my build was based on the wrench

Best combat I've seen's from FEAR, the kick looked, felt and went well with the shooting and slow motion. But no FPS has really come close to good melee combat, which I'm surprised as I can't imagine it's that hard to implement. I even think games like Skyrim don't utilize melee anywhere near its full potential.

Many games can't even manage that, much less crack the code on first-person melee combat while they're at it.
None of those games in this poll are basically "press a Button, Something awesoem happens. Button = Awesome". None of these are even actual Mechanics or can be even called melee. Anyway, Dark Messiah or FEAR 1.
Go hunt down a copy of Condemned 2. 90% of the game is First Person Melee (FPS other 10%) and that game was a blast to play.

If Condemned 2 counts, then that. Its so satisfying to land a killing blow with a bat on an unsuspecting enemy, or finish a guy off with a curb stomp into a toilet.
If its only pure shooters, then I think Killzone 3 and Battlefield 3 are two good picks. Up front you got to tap it a few times, but from behind you get a variety of super brutal kill animations for both games. I'll give it to Killzone 3 since there's more variety in the animations, and its pretty brutal to gouge a Helghan's eyes out through his goggles with your bare thumbs.

True, I guess it's harder to get right than it looks.
Even though it's a adventure/stealth/FPS hybrid, gonna mention Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay.LucianuThis and Condemned 1/2 are the only acceptable answers. Everything else is just a "push button to kill at close range."
[QUOTE="rzepak"]Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.R4gn4r0kI'm surprised so few peopl say this. If Dark Messiah does one thing right it's the melee combat. Oops, forgot about this as well.
None of those.....
Condemned series, Riddick and Zenoclash have melle systems that are actually enjoyable.
