Which FPS is the best and why?

Before all the cows vote Killzone 2, I'd like to point out that it's a Niche game - it doesn't have a Single Player campaign worth speaking of, it doesn't have any local (offline) multiplayer, it doesn't have any co-op, so it's all Competitive Online multiplayer. Even many FPS fans would be disapointed with that kind of offering, thus the online shmup fan-crowd is going to be the main group that values the game - meaning niche. If you find my saying that offensive, I recomend you look up the word "niche" before you get all report happy.

After you've considered that fact, and you still think Killzone 2 is the better of the five options, then by all means, vote for it.

(And yes, I know you could say that Bioshock is also a niche game since it's all single player and not everyone values its story - yes, Bioshock would also be a niche game. That said, even my wife who doesn't like playing FPSs enjoyed watching it just to see the antics of Andrew Ryan and company.)

Well as an Honorable mention, I'll say(and voted) for orange box. Even though I...GASP!....dont really like it. Even though I like half life for the most part and find Tf2 unique, it just doesnt pull me in. I try to get into it, believe me but I guess its not for everyone.

As my real choice...Yea I DO pick kz2. I'll give it to you. Kz2 could be called "niche" but its ridiculous chaos and beefy gritty feeling is something fresh and very welcome to my table. Its so hard for me to stop myself playing.

Yeah, why would Halo 3 be up there? It's not like millions up people enjoy it or anything...

I haven't played KZ 2 or L4D, but the Orange Box (or even just HL2: Episode 2) seems to be the best on the list by far. I enjoyed the HL episodes' campaigns a lot more than Halo 3's, and TF 2 is more appealing to me than Halo 3's multiplayer.

As for Bioshock, I've been playing through it recently; I'm currently in Neptune's Bounty. So far I find it to be a joyless, repetitive slog with a boring and blunt story. But maybe it's too early to judge. I'm only a few levels in.

I voted Left 4 Dead simply because it's the most different out of pretty much all of the FPSs that have been released this generation. It's got a 4p Co-op mode that is hours of fun, and local too if you have a 360 (For 2 players.) Add a unique versus mode on top of that and you have a pretty solid all-around shooter that is accessable to a pretty wide crowd of people.

The Halo series as a whole has outstanding multiplayer, and is the only reason I bought any of them.

And I don't understand why people equate popularity with quality. The American mainstream music industry is evidence enough that popularity =/= quality.

Sorry but Valve FPS's just have terrible gameplay. Good stories though.

thats not really a reason at all i know one or 4 games that sold more then halo 3

1 is goldeneye for a reason , ,

but out of this gen, well after playing a wall of fpses , mass effect cod2 or dark sector are awsome games,

as far as multiplayer cod again , or quantum of solace-wii ,

overall im still going with goldeneye pd or ts1-3 , , theres no way ANY ONES GONNA MATCH THEM

I own all those games on the list and non comes close to Crysis!

Anyways...

Singleplayer = Crysi, Deus Ex and Half Life 2

Online = Team Fortress 2, Quake 1 and Left4Dead

Anything that includes Half Life 2 is instantly better than everything else. IMO, Half Life 2 is the best FPS ever created thus far. Nothing, not Halo, not Call of Duty, and not even classics like Goldeneye, Doom, Quake, or Perfect Dark can compare to the greatness that is Half Life 2.

Also why is Call of Duty 4 not in the poll?
