The Siren games. The first two games at least get a lot of hate due to their high difficulty and general lack of accessibility.
You've definitely got to be dedicated to get the most out of them but if you put the effort in then beneath the frustration you'll find one of the most tense surival horror games ever conceived, with one of the deepest, most complex stories in gaming.
The third game, Blood Curse (a loose remake of the original) did a lot to fix some of this though, even if some of what made the originals so appealing in the first place was lost as a result.
Sonic Unleashed and Tony Hawk's Proving Ground.
Sonic Unleashed has been the best 3D Sonic since Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast, and Sonic is the fastest he's even been. Isn't that what the fans wanted? A really fast Sonic game with some 2d platforming. The werehog was the only downside to that game.
After Underground1, the Tony Hawk games were going slowly downhill. Underground 2 wasn't bad, American wasteland was ok, project 8 was kind of boring, but then Proving Ground was great. The online multiplayer is so much fun if you can find a good match. But I don't know how to explain it, THPG is the best since Underground. Better than Skate1.
I'll stick to this gen. There's lots. :P
Stoked - This game had no hype, yet it ended up getting a good score here and a good average on Metacritic, too. It's the best realistic snowboarding game I've played to date, combining the controls of Skate and the feel of Amped. 100% addicted since day one.
Dark Sector - This is what I believe to be Digital Extremes best effort on their own. While the story is craptastic, the action is so much fun. The Glaive is one of my favorite weapons ever. While the game is no classic, it's well worth the tenner you can pick it up for these days.
Mirror's Edge - Well, this game really is love it or hate it. Some people seem to love the feel of it, yet others seem to despise it. I'm from the former group. I love the feel of running and leaping around gorgeous environments. Although, it does get brought down by some forced combat scenarios.
Ninja Blade - A cheesy and dumb fun action title.
Resistance FoM - I found FoM to be a lot better than the sequel. The story, atmosphere, and a large selection of weapons to carry. I just loved it.
Too Human - While Too Human had a ton of flaws (mind-numbingly long and linear levels that were bland, cheap waves of enemies, etc), I loved the characters and pingpong-style combat.
Rise of the Argonauts - An awesome Action/RPG. It has its flaws, but the story is great and the gameplay is fun.
Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard - This is a 6.5-7.0 game, but I absolutely loved playing it. It's dumb, it's cheesy, it's even stupid, but it's fun. Some people will hate it and some will really enjoy it, but I recommend a rent. It's short and lacks replay.
Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena - Easily an 8.5-9.0 for me. The remake of Butcher Bay is worth that score alone. Dark Athena is just a nice addition, and while it doesn't live up to Butcher Bay, it's still a great title in its own right.
pain, metal arms, ff8 (some love it some hate it), bubble bobbleriver_rat3117Bubble Bobble was and is amazing. My mom (believe it or not) was great at that game.
Star Wars The Force Unleashed
I don't get what people have against it, I thought using the force was really fun and the story was the best since the original trilogy. Sure it wasn't the most balanced game and a little glitchy, but it was still awesome. Nothing like pulling a Star Destroyer out of the sky.
so many, but as for as this gen goes
One of my favorite games this generation is Heavenly Sword. I love the story, gameplay, voice acting and really love the way they include quality sixaxis controls, i wish more games were made like this and I would love a sequel with Kai.
Unfortunately it didn't sell very well and Ninja Theory and Sony had a falling out so a sequel will never be made!
More people should try this game, it truly is one of the best. It got a bad rap being at the height of Sony hate and not including online for its 7 hour story. You dont see reviewers complaining about no online for clearly single player games anymore but it was still fairly early in the gen when and everyone wanted every game to have online capabilities.
Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena - Easily an 8.5-9.0 for me. The remake of Butcher Bay is worth that score alone. Dark Athena is just a nice addition, and while it doesn't live up to Butcher Bay, it's still a great title in its own right.BioShockOwnzAgreed, this is my choice aswell. So did you buy it just to play Butcher Bay again? I did :P Dark Athena and multiplayer (Mainly Pitch Black), were just nice bonuses for me
Not sure why, but this thread made me think of a old game I would love to see a sequel to on these current consoles and PC. King's field 2. I didn't care for the first one because I got 2 first and it is way better than the first.
splinter cell series. its unbelieveable how many people hate the greatest series ever
1=Awesome 2=not so much 3=The ultimate Splinter Cell 4=Good,but not Chaos Theory good. ExactlySure seems like Halo Wars, but most of that hate is from people who have never played it it seems. Same goes for Ratchet & Clank, Rayman Raving Rabbids...I would just end up naming most games I own. As for obscure, Elefunk on PSN is probably the best downloadable game I have played this generation IMO.SpruceCabooseNo, its just that Red Alert is a far better series. I mean, its not bad, but there's much better RTS out.
1. Halo Wars...I mean the game is pure fun...sure its not as deep as pc rts's but it doesnt need to be imo, the beauty is in its simplicity...it feels like a more co-op centric rts, and the online is a blast and plus I find the community so far to be quite a step up in terms of maturity level compared to halo 3
2. Banjo Kazooie N&B: I am a huge fan of the first 2 entries and I found this game highly addictive and fun, yet there is no love for this game, on SW at least
This game was one of the most amazing, detailed old school rpgs ever. This was an open ended rpg with a noin linear path set in medieval Gremany. Each of the weapons and armor were realistically created and the kind of weapon attcking and the kind or armor being attacked all had influence in combat. You team characters were richly detailed which determined their abilities and they could grow old where you would have choice of using the older person with experience or younger one with greater strength. Stuff like player's reputation had affect through out the world and so on. Sadly I never see this game mentioned in the list of top rpgs

I've been trying to find a copy of that game since like forever. It seems to be uber rare :(
On topic, Necrovision. Everybody either seems to hate it or has never heard of it. Personally, it's my 3rd favorite FPS 'this gen'.

Ah, but I must have the real copy. :) I am a collector, I need the box. I will buy it one day... along with Ultima 7 and the Gold Box games. Even if they cost 100 €.

Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise from the Ashes for the DC. I thought it was a great game aside from your teammates dumb A.I.

Unfortunately I live in Finland, and the postage costs are usually quite high, if they even agree to send it here. I usually buy from eBay.co.uk where the postage costs are not as high... I'm out of cash at the moment anyway, since I just ordered lots of games a few weeks ago (including mint boxed copies of Ultima Underworld 1&2 and Planescape Torment. ;)) But ah, some other time. Lots of games to buy and too little money to buy them with.
