I remember back when ME2 was released and I was reading Eurogamer's review, one phrase got my attention, it said that Mass Effect 3 would be the most important game in Bioware's story.
.
It makes sense. Mass Effect trilogy had a huge impact in gaming and is widely regarded as one of the best franchises thin gen and a lot of people will say it IS the best. With Mass Effect 3 Bioware can more than ever confirm its position as one of the top developers around and finish a trilogy that will be remembered for decades.
.
One the other side, ToR is clearly the biggest (thinking about time spend and budget) project ever handled by Bioware. Not just that, it has a huge and daring ambition, "kil" WoW. If this games fail, the repercussionwill be big.
.
What do you guyns think? I think that a ToR flop would be worst than a ME3 flop, however, ME3's suscess would have much larger impacts. Probably not a financial one, but it would put the Mass Effect name is a standard that a very selected few franchises are. And because I think games are not just about making money and popularity, my choice is Mass Effect 3.

TOR by a long shot, it's been in development longer than ME3, cost a whole lot more and will be active for even longer than ME3 will be (if it's successful). So easily and by a long way TOR is far more important.

ToR. If it pans out, it has the potential to bring in far more cashola for the company. Unfortunately, it's the Star Wars franchise, so I have a feeling something's gonna be FUBAR.

TOR...most expensive game ever made.

ME3 is basically just the third ME game in a little over 4 years.

You are overating the Mass Effect franchise as a whole and its impact on the genre. oh sure, best FPS/RPG hybrid but Bioware has gone many steps backwards in terms of multiplayer RPG games since last gen. Dragon Age is just not up to BG and NWN standard. ToR should be the obvious anwser, as shooter fans will love ME series regaurdless of the quality of the third at this point. (i like it too, but its more of a shooter with choices.... it lacks diversity in core gameplay.) ToR is as you said a much larger investment, and has the potential to fund the company for years to come... though from the beta and previews... I dont think it will do as well as it should of... too much time on presentation, not enough on core gameplay/animation ..... like pretty much all of Biowares current gen games.

Whats ToR?

And I think they should make another Dragon Age. Dragon Age 1 was a complete success for them, DA 2 not so much.

If they took the goods out of each game and put it into a #3, it would be one of the best games ever.

ToR is more important from a cost and dev time perspective, but neither well make or break Bioware. Mass Effect 3 is at least a garenteed hit in terms of sales and reception.

Easily The Old Republic. Most expensive game to be created to date. It could also be the most profitable game, if it can overtake World of Warcraft (doubt it though). Mass Effect 3 is just another Mass Effect game.

And the ending of ME2 gave me the impression that 2 & 3 are going to feel like one game.

I'm sure the ME stories were written at the same time as one big story by Drew Karpyshyn. He's been too busy the last few years writing TOR and Star Wars novels.

ToR. When it flops because of oversaturation of that type of MMORPG, it's gonna be really tough for Bioware.

The original game felt very complete even with a cliffhanger of sorts and had a lot of closure. But ME2 didnt have any of that for me, its just a means to an end. I love it but it doesn't feel whole. The books are similar in this respect too. The first one is a great standalone read for fans, but if you're going to start the second you also have to read the third to get the whole picture. I haven't finished the third quite yet though, so far makes the Illusive Man of the game seem like a teddy bear however.

TOR cost them much more to make so I'm guessing they're keeping a closer eye on that game.
