Metal Gear solid (series 1,2,3,4), Shadow of the Colossus, Chrono Cross, FF-4/7/10, Resident Evil 1/2(PSX), Lost Odyssey.
Those are the main ones that come to mind.
That wouldn't be a fair answer but it's only true.[QUOTE="OreoMilkshake"][QUOTE="magiciandude"]
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Mr_Nordquist
I completely forgot about the SSB games.
No doubt SSBB above all other game has the best soundtrack. We'll just put that as grand master of all OSTs.
I give the "Grand Master of all OSTs" status for SSBB my stamp of approval. *stamps*Metroid Prime (ice plains)
Super Mario Galaxy (free in space)
LOZ Wind Waker (sunny island)
Nintendo has so much musical talent we take it for granted.
Maybe they are not the best, maybe they are. It's hard to tell. In other words, they rawk.
Licensed- Tony Hawk's Pro skater 3, Madden 2004 Orchestrated-FFXSoundtracks... this is something we really need to talk about more in system wars and it makes me sad that it barely gets a whisper when compared to its graphics counterpart. I can gurantee you, Halo would have not been as epic if it wasnt for the kickass soundtrack. What ive figured out is the soundtrack is usually what makes me remember games.
As in the case of OOT and TP. OOT had an amazing sountrackand was a perfect all round game. TP was just as good but i was always wondering just why nothing stood out from the game to me and i figured it was because the soundtrack was dry. Apart from 1 or 2 pieces, everything was very average.
Anyway for me, it was a tough debate between OOT and Majoras Mask (MM is my favourite game of all time). In the end, i had to give it to OOT. The sountrack in OOT is PERFECT, i remember every piece from the game and the way it synergises with the suroundings was magical. Some of my favourites are.

Master Pieces.
Anyway so yeah, we need to consider soundtracks more when we debate games. I know its a very subjective area but we could at least try. What are yours?
*NOTE** im talking about soundtracks, not just ONE track from a game. Games that have all round amazing soundtracks. Not just ONE OR TWOepic track.

Yeah, I'd have to say either SotN or Final Fantasy VI. SotN features an incredible variety of music styles, all of which fit perfectly into the game, and FFVI is Uematsu at his best, which is kind of like DaVinci at his best, when it comes to videogame soundtracks. Now that I think about it though, in terms of what it was meant to accomplish, the Super Metroid soundtrack is pretty fantastic too, all things considered. The sense of atmosphere created on nothing more than MIDI tracks is pretty impressive. For me my favorite has always been Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Some examples.

Pretty much every song in this game is great.

These are the games which i think has the best soundtrack.
Heroes of Might and Magic series: All of them has a strong soundtrack.
Outcast: Forgotten little classic, with an amazing orchestral soundtrack.
Diablo I: The soundtrack in the 1st Diablo really gave the game a dark and grim atmosphere.
There are more games with a soundtrack which i love, but these were the first three which came to mind, and also those i remember the best.
Definitely, it brought out that atmosphere perfectly. Also Braid, if no one's mentioned it yet.Grim Fandango

It's funny how their are only a few people actaully listing their ONE favorite soundtrack of all time. I know a lot there is a lot of good VG music on other games, but if you've played enough games, it should be too hard to narrow it down to one.
FFX is the most consistent and best imo. Smash Bros Brawl is also very good, but not as consistent. Some songs on that game aren't that great. I people saying things like Mario Kart 64...lol. I'm not trying to make fun of you are knocking you down on your opinion, but I'm sure you've played more video games that have a better sound track than MK 64...
GTA Vice City. You know you love it.clembo1990I agree Vice City Stories as well.
I also like Super Mario series, Metroid Prime Series, Legend of Zelda Series, SSBB, and Metal Gear Solid Series.
GTA Vice City. You know you love it.clembo1990
This, the nostalgia of the 80's in video game format, love it. Nothing like driving around the equivalent of miami, running over pedestrians and shooting at people, with "And I ran" playing on the radio to get a smile on your face.
Now - if one were to omit anything done by Mr. Uematsu
Diablo II had the best soundtrack musically speaking.
Just listen to bloody "Wilderness"
