Splinter Cell is far mor realistic in terms of stealth.

Both have 1 fundamental flaw each however. Splinter Cell - The three lights on top of your goggles. MGS - The fact that even if your Octocamo suit blended in with the ground someone would still see your head since nothing is covering up your head.

Actually they can notice you at times unless you use facecamo which gives higher percentage of camoflauge since your face is no longer seen as well

They do...but you can literally have them almost standing right next to you and they wouldn't see your face. In actuality, they would see from quite a ways off with your head showing.

Playing on liquid easy are we ? Try playing on BBE or TBE (harder difficulties) the game gets even more intense and they can see you from a far unless you blend in well so face camo is a must.

Nope, played through on Normal. So? Really? Big Boss Extreme is a harder difficulty...your joking? :|

No, on normal without the facecamo you can have them nearly 7-8 steps away from you and they will not see you. Sure, when they get closer eventually they'll see you. But, either way, they would see you from alot further away with your entire head just sticking out like it does. Haven't played through on the tougher difficulty levels because, well, while it was fun, not something that i want to play through again at this time. Either way, if you really want to debate this then keep going. I said that both have their flaws, i wasn't being biased. Both statements about SC and MGS are true.

Anyway, IMO, Hitman and Death to Spies (check it out, great game on the PC) are much more "stealth" (sure its more Social steath then the hiding in the shadows but it's still stealth) games then any other title. Since i do not actually see an actual spy sneaking through an entire facility just wearing a black suit and hiding in the "shadows" nor do i actually see a suit like MGS4 working since in *gasp* real life you can see depth as well as colors. Your much more likely to grab a disguise and infiltrate like that. Anyway, both MGS and SC have their flaws.

Splinter Cell - has a noise meter that fills up depending on how quickly or slowly you move and what posture you're in (radical actions like jumping also affect it). The meter also takes into account background noise that can produce more favorable conditions for sneaking depending on how much it increases. The game also has a light meter that indicates how shrouded or exposed you are in light or dark places.

MGS4 - Has a camo index that indicates how well you blend with your surroundings based on what you wear or camo you adopt and based on how light or shaded the area you're in is. It also fluctuates based on the speed of your movement and how low you are to the ground. Also, the proximity of your enemies is taken into account.

Having played MGS4 and Chaos Theory, I can safely say that these two different series of stealth parameters make for good rivals. So what do you think?

nervmeister

Well, technically, I'd say MGS4 is a more realistic stealth game, but then again, it is set in a near futuristic time, whereas Splinter Cell is set closer to current day making it more realistic in that sense. MGS games are consistently good though, wheras Splinter Cell was only good for the first two or so games.

I'm going to say neither;

MGS4 has the camo ability but while it makes Snake look for instance like a chequered floor, it does not exactly hide the fact an adult is lying so obviously on the ground.

Splinter Cell has you running around lit up like a Christmas tree, all while hiding in the dark.

Realistic, pah!

MGS and Splinter Cell cant be compared. Splinter Cell pretty much was all about stealth. MGS can be played in multiple ways. Either action or stealth. Or even a little bit of both.

Hiding in dim shadows with 3 huge green lights on your head and not being able to be seen aint too realistic if you ask me.

Look at this.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkDImUOaN5U This isnt realistic, it's just plain dumb. MGS is alot more realistic when it comes to stealth. Maybe not in story but stealth oh yes.

Dahaka-UK

Nah. Splinter Cell just has much more stealth gameplay elements than MGS. I do agree about the 3 lights things but you couldn't see your character if it was pitch black.

You should have made a poll. I would have voted Splinter Cell (but I have only played the first one, so I judge using only that game). Are the newer ones stealthy like the first?
