You play as Russians in World At War. And as for the Nazis, whilst the Russians performed hideous acts of cruelty, they dont have same taboo associated with them as the Nazis have. I agree that a game from their perspective would be interesting to experience, but it would repulse many people from the US and EU, including Germans themselves. History has written World War I and II, as well as the events during the Cold War with a clear "good winner" vs "evil loser" divide. Unfortunately, that is so ingrained in the minds of the general population, it wouldnt sit well to contradict it. Also, modern conflicts arent as clearly cut (apparently) as older wars. Though I still feel they are portrayed rather indelicately.shooters where the russians/naz's are the enemy. why can't it be the opposite? or why not like asian enemies? theres a lot of talk of noth korea these days, so it would be fun to see the enemy(I can think of crysis and warhead that has korean enemies but thats it). And the fact I was mad that china wasn't playable in EndWar but russia,Europe, and the US are. l

Super Mario Brothers, I surprised no one has tried a lawsuit yet.FightingfanNo matter how stupid it is, Someone with always try to find somewhere to shoehorn Nintendo hate into a topic that just sounds plain stupid. 3 decades of Mario so far, and yet no Italian has tried to go at Nintendo. Actually I've seen a few that embrace Mario and love his games.
Every shooter except Bioshock and a very few others come to mind. No aliens, beefed up guys or enemies bent on destroying the world just for fun here.

Half Life has a great story and Freeman doesn't say a word.
Why don't you tell us what you think?

Oops, sorry for that,I've never posted an opinion of mine on a thread created by me but okay. I'd pick Killzone 2 for it's incredibly shallow story and characters, the story is so bad it doesn't have a purpose except being an excuse for shooting up aliens.
Hey, I said that :P People are, yes. And they really ought to stop.Is it only me or almost everybody is confusing generic with stereotype? Also, I think punch out has to have the most stereotypical characters.

Oh you mean like Halo, like Half Life, like Gears and like every other single shooter out there??

[QUOTE="eveileb-ekam"][QUOTE="YuriSH"]Hey, I said that :P People are, yes. And they really ought to stop. how does something generic exist without a stereotype? When something is generic, it is common amongst its contemporaries; so Master Chief is a generic example of an action hero, or Mario is a generic example of a platforming mascot. A stereotype is a commonly held belief about a specific group, and is usually simplified. For example, that all women like cooking and cleaning and being subservient, or that all black people wear baggy clothes, listen to rap music and eat fried chicken. They are similar, yes, but there is a distinction. Is it only me or almost everybody is confusing generic with stereotype? Also, I think punch out has to have the most stereotypical characters.

How in the world is Mario generic? How many other Italian plumbers are there in games? Mario is probably one of the LEAST generic video game characters to date.

I didn't say that the story serving the purpose of shooting up aliens/soldiers or whatever is a bad thing, but having absolutely NO other purpose or moral for a story other than that is what makes it stereotypical and shallow. When something is generic, it is common amongst its contemporaries; so Master Chief is a generic example of an action hero, or Mario is a generic example of a platforming mascot. "of, applicable to, or referring to all the members of a genus, class, group, or kind; general."
Mario defined the third and fourth generation, and there were many many other games of the same genre that looked to capitalise on Nintendo's success with him. Sonic, Rayman, Crash Bandicoot - how many platforming mascots for various companies were there in those days?
Mario and Sonic, they were the representations of that class of characters - hence, generic.
Im using the term in its literal, actual sense, not in the System Wars sense of "generic means average and crap".

Master Chief isn't a marine, and he talks. "Master Chief" isn't even a marine rank. You've never played any Halo game, have you?

he's a lot closer to Iron Man if anything. a color change and the only thing off is the helmet.
but he definitely isn't a marine, so that's off whatever agenda.

Lol that's not what a stereotype is. The word you're thinking of is generic. A stereotype is like saying that all black people listen to is Rap music. Please Log In to post.
