One thing that attracts to me FPS's are unique and crazy guns. That said, of MS and Sony's big shooters, which will have guns more unfit for this world?

Of the Reach weapons I've seen, the one swhich most stood out to me was the Grenade Launcher. Now I know that grenade launchers are nothing new in FPS's, but I love how this one allows you to delay the grenade's detonation at your own discretion. Plus, its design is sick. Also, there's the Focus Rifle which is basically Michael Bay's idea of what a "laser pointer" should be.

So far, the nastiest KZ3 weapon shown is the WASP, a rocket launcher's rocket launcher that rapidly fires mini-missles, with an alt firing mode that has them literally rain down all at once on a targeted subject kind of like the Hammer of Dawn, but with rockets instead of a laser.

The Reach magnum alone is a beast. All weapons had been improved on, and the Plasma Pistol was actually useful. I remember 5-shotting people with it, it's just insane.

If you think those guns are even remotely special, go pick up Resistance Fall of Man. No, not Resistance 2, that was the same derivative junk you'll see in these other two games. A GRENADE LAUNCHER with a detonate altfire? EEGADS! Someone get the OP TF2 stat.

When it comes to crazy guns, I don't think KZ is going to beat Halo. Covenant weapons are just ridiculous... The only series that I can think of off the top of my head that would beat Halo in the crazy weapons department would be something like the ratchet and clank series.

Or Resistance? Honestly, I've scarcely seen a more derivative bunch of firearms than the Halo arsenal. Okay, we've got a submachine gun. Wahwa wee wah. Then a sniper rifle. Good lord we're really outside the pale at this point. And we've got a carbine, a laser rifle, a pulse assault rifle, and a plasma pistol....good lord get me some water I'm about to faint. The caliber of creativity here is mindboggling. Laser guns? Nobody's ever done that before. Virtually half the Covenant arsenal is just a laser equivalent of the space marine weapons, which are just standard weapon archetypes like pistol, assault rifle, etc. The contention that any of this stuff is even creative, let alone spectacularly or remarkably so is a groundless one, I'm afraid.

Here's an IGN article on the Beta weapons.

Now, I dunno what's in KZ3, but these weapons look pretty fun to me. My vote goes to Halo: Reach.

But you can't forget about the: Brute Shot, Energy Sword, Fueld Rod Gun, Gravity Hammer, Needler, Sentinel Beam, Spiker, Needle Rifle, and Plasma Launcher.

Every game has their own share of generic weapons.

You could just say Resistance 2 has a generic Carbine, rocket launcher, sniper rifle (2 of them), magnum, grenade etc.

But you'd be forgetting about the creative ones like the Sawblade and Auger.

Yeah, because taking two of the most generic archetypes in the US military's arsenal and making them into vague catch-all mish-mashes of their real-life counterparts takes a huge amount of creativity. The DMR is literally just a semi-automatic battle rifle that deals more damage with each shot and has a little bit more zoom. I'm pretty sure a baby monkey could both conceptualize and code into the game a more complex battle implement.

No, Killzone was even worse. It had a total of two assault rifles, two pistols, a sniper rifle, an LMG, and an SMG, and that was literally all they had on release for multiplayer. Now, if you buy their map packs, you can import the bolt gun and a flamethrower. Nothing unique or surprising. What annoyed me most about KZ2 was that the online mode actually required that you unlock all of those generic classes. Call of Duty 4 put it to shame....even in spite of the unlocks, they allowed you to choose two of each weapon class from the very start.

Reach, because it seems like Bungie is finally adding creativity to their weapons. Honestly, Halo's array of firearms was always vastly disappointing to me. The Needler was the only unique thing. Everything else we've seen before, and if it looked different and useful it probably had a human counterpart we recognized. Like, the Spiker was just a Brute SMG, the Mauler was a tiny shotgun, the Carbine was the BR, the Fuel Rod was a slower and less powerful Rocket Launcher, etc etc. But Bungie knew this (don't defend them, they quite literally said this themselves and they were trying to make Covenant weapons feel different this time around) and so now we're getting things like the Focus Beam, and their Sticky Grenade Homing-Launcher thing. The grenade launcher is a nice addition but unique? It isn't, in any sense of the word. It looks like a future M79...

Killzone 3 looks like it's improving the arsenal, and KZ2 had some interesting things to play around with, but it doesn't look like it's going to have a ton of unique weapons.

Now Resistance... that's using scifi imagination to it's benefit. I'd even have to say Resistance 2 had some cool touches, like the Revolver that shot rounds you could detonate for some reason.

killzone 2 didn't really have that much variety with weapons, so i imagine kz 3 won't be so radically different.

with that said, halo already has a proven track record with gun variety.

Both have their own cool weapons. Grenade Launcher in Reach is pretty meh. At least in the Beta it was, but you could shoot it then wait for someone to walk around the grenade and detonate it. That was pretty funny.

Grenade launcher was the best new weapon IMO (worst being the covenant Plasma rifle) They really did a lot of work on how the weapons sound and feel in reach it kinda gives me a BFBC2 feeling when im firing a AR or sniping somone.

I've always felt the weapons in Halo have gotten worse as the games have gone on, they got rid of the assault rifle of the first game, changing it out for a battle rifle with a 3 round burst instead of single shots, and short range SMGs that waste ammo and aren't effective at distance and have little reserve ammo capacity, they cut back on pistol power, shotguns are very effective against the flood but they barely supply enough ammo to be really effective in these areas, and in multiplayer it's always first come first serve with the shotgun leaving others with crap weapons to work with, in fact the games become increasingly more difficult to supply ammo for human weapons which is suprising considering the level that the human war machine in Halo provides constant warhog drops and pelican landings that they can't supply ammo on any regular basis, and not to mention that I so wished that after Halo 2 they'd of ditched the two weapons at once concept for maybe some left trigger iron sights and increased accuracy assault weapons, but they stuck to their dual wielding system, only some of the alien weapons seemed to have improved but they suffer similar ammo problems, my favorite would have to be the covenant carbine and the brute spiker, I felt the ammo issue was most present in Halo ODST, and I doubt there going to do anything different in Halo Reach the weapons in Killzone 2 feel simple but that's not a bad thing, they do the job and it doesn't irritate me like it does in Halo, if Killzone 3 is more like Killzone 2 I'll be happy, if Killzone 3 needs to change anything it's the controls, I'd like a more COD control scheme, I heard they update controls since I last played so maybe they have that covered but I still have to see if it's too my liking

You're going way off topic. Pick one out of the two the TC indicated. Don't just bash Halo and bring up other PS3 shooters for comparison, because you know Halo Reach's weapons well be way better than Killzone 3's.

anyone who says killzone is just in pure denial, killzone has generic looking weapons, and while halo does have them, its just the human weapons, the alien weapons are 100000000000000000 times more interesting than killzones or halos human weapons

Weird question, especially since KZ focus more on realistic weapons while Halo has some rather abstract weapons (at least the alien weapons). I like Halos weapons more, just because they have colors xD

You do realize this can be said about Halo and Killzone as well, right? How many science fiction games have plasma rifles? Now, how many have one that shoots through walls? Red Faction, Perfect Dark, and Resistance. When it comes to interesting weapons, again, Halo/Killzone falls short.

Perfect Dark, Resistance, and especially Unreal are titles that have some sort of original weapons among them. In fact, out of all the first person shooters I can think of from Duke Nukem, Quake, Doom, and forgotten titles like Shadow Warrior rank far and beyond the likes of Halo/Killzone with original weapons.

The weapons in Halo are pretty interesting, unfortunately, they all look like they're made from Mattel.

But my biggest complaint with Killzone2was that I pretty much beat the game using the same weapon. I'll have to wait for moreKillzone 3.

Dual wielding needlers in Halo 2 were beast and the needler is beast in general but you cant dual wield it anymore :/

The lightning gun in killzone 2 isTHE gun tho.
