in the time before trailers and screens are released almost all games make serious changes , but anyway i guess half-life ,i mean, the game started out as TWO games, both pretty different from half life, one called quiver( the game was a space shooter similar to doom ,or at least was meant to be) and the other -prospero- was meant to be a 'literary' game based on the likes of myst. the main character in the latter was a woman called aleph,or 'the librarian' the games worlds were meant to run on different servers through a 'library' ,gettit? this was essentially the foundation for steam too. quiver was named after the myst by steven king,if youve ever read it you'l see the connection to half life, in it monsters swarm out of a military base called arrowhead. http://www.unseen64.net/2008/04/07/half-life-quiver-concept-beta-prototype/ if you want tknow more ofon this, and a helluvalot more in raising the bar(book about half life in general)
