Which games/series you wish should have stopped or never been(like God Of War2)?

I always hear people saying that series should have stopped with that game.I wholeheartedly agree with some.I hate it when a game do little to propel the series canon further and instead raise a whole bunch of questions to spawn another needless sequel/expansion.I can think of few now:

1)God of War-Should have stopped at God of War 1.Absolute unecessary extension of story,Kratos fighting Gods who were really worshipped in Greece long ago,stupid portrayal of anti-heroism and mythology....man,at times I feel like heresy while playing GOWIII.I also don't like the idea of portrayal Gods as bosses,wherever and however long ago were they worshipped! SOTC were far more classy and imaginative in this regard.Oh and now there's news of GOW 4,brilliant! :evil:

2)Half-Life 2 Episodes-Though not as bad as GOW series needless extension into episodes dilute a fantastic storyline. At most,a Half life 3 should have been better.

3)Godfather 2-The fact that it would never reach the levels it's predecessor was evident long before release.

F.E.A.R. 2 should not exist. But it does.

Though I thouroughly enjoyed GOW2+GOW3 I agree that it feels "wrong". That and Okami should have been left alone... I mean Okamiden? come on ppl.

Well as I said it was my personal opinion.But think the story could have been handled better to create something more imaginative.They had a plethora of Greek monsters to choose from while making the series,didn't they?

In this regard kudos to Ensemble Studios/Microsoft for coming up with Age of Mythologies' great story where Gods are portrayed perfectly.

i actually was happy GOW2 & 3 were released since both were great games... also loved bot GOW titles on PSP... and certainly looking forward to GOW4 :)

I think the game functions well as a console RTS and is somewhat overlooked here because of it's low score (6.5 but 83 on Metacritic), but Halo Wars probably should never have existed.

It was an obvious money grab on Microsofts part and it just didn't stand up to the Bungie Halo games.

Star Wars the Force Unleashed II on Wii was kind of unecessary... but it was alot of fun, so I don't mind.

I guess I want CoD to stop, but I really can't justify why, so...

I enjoyed it a lot actually (pc version).

Crysis 2 should not exist in it's current form.

Fear 2 should not exist.

Dragon Age 2 should not exist. DAO should have licensed aDnD and spent the rpg mechanic resources on better writing and world design.

CoD: MW should have been succeeded by nothing.

KOTOR should have stopped after the second one because an MMO won't be KOTOR 3,4,5,6,7,8,etc regardless of what Bioware claims. Especially not when ToR is a WoW clone with some halfhearted SP focus superimposed onto the "wait for the dungeon finder" gameplay we're bound to end up with.

Honorary positive mention:

Mass Effect 2 almost made it to the list but that'd be way too harsh on a disappointing game that was still extremely good.

The entire Legacy of Kain series, Blood Omen included, should be remade in the spirit of Soul Reaver 2 HD.

Duke Nukem. Now we can't even say a game will be out before Duke Nukem Forever!

In terms of Story, I completely agree with GoW (although I enjoyed 2 and 3). Other than that...hmmm I will get back to ya :P.

Disagree :P. MGS4 is my favorite one and is a nice "ending". Have not played PW but will when it comes to PS3.

Seconded.forgot to mention MGS4.The story was a total convoluted mess.Actually am giving the game a rerun to get a better grasp of the story.Just too many twists and turns.How that game got a perfect 10 on multiple websites on story/presentation is beyond me.story is just unecessarily complex.

I wish Legend of Lagaia 2, Shadowrun (xbox version) and all Grandia games past the 2nd never existed.

The story in MGS2 was convoluted, but actually made sense. As a matter of fact its the only story in the series that had no glaring holes in it even after years of being studied over by over analytical fans.

MGS1 and 3 have their major faults and plot holes, but nothing too drastic to take away from the experience.

MGS4 on the other hand is a completely convoluted mess riddled with plot holes and inconsistencies and in many cases goes completely against the series canon. Its not just that MGS4 completely contradicts MG, MG2, MGS1, MGS2 and MGS3. It doesn't even stay consistent within itself.

I can understand if you are someone that has just played each game once or twice. MGS2 may seem like the offender at that point since it is a lot to take in. However, when you know the stories inside out down to the last details, that is not the case at all.

Worst MGS IMO. Great game, but MGS2 is just not up to the others.

You can argue the story, sure, but MGS2 has the most structured gameplay and level design in the series. As a VIDEO GAME it is the best. Each and every maneuver, item and weapon fills a specific purpose. Its a very intricate system of gameplay mechanics. It melds perfectly with the level design. If you took away all the cutscenes I would think it was designed by Nintendo. That is how specific and orderly everything was arranged. The placement of every corner of every wall, every piece of railing, every aspect of the environment is built around the gameplay mechanics.

Unfortunately the true brilliance of the game comes from doing ghost runs. I loved the hell out of MGS3, enough to play it over 50 times, but as a stealth game it just wasn't the same. Still leagues above MGS4 though.

I don't get the MGS2 apathy... As you mentioned, the game itself is absolutely brilliant and I for one enjoyed the story in all it's convoluted intricacy.

I'm not too happy about the new Halo trilogy. I believe it should have ended with Reach. I understand why Microsoft is continuing the series, but it just doesn't sit well with me.

Forgot to mention Brave fencer musashi 2 and Breath of fire V. Games were GARBAGE.

None, don't see why I would want a series to stop. Not like I'm beeing forced to buy any games.

Halo, I feel there is no point of a new triology when clearly Halo 3 was all about finishing the fight. And Reach should have been the last game since it was a prequel to 1.

Is it really that hard to comprehend? Both MGS2&4 were actually pretty straight forward if you payed attention to the important dialog. My girlfriend didn't even see MGS1 before seeing MGS2, and got the concept down pretty solid her first run through. I think the problem most people have is that they get overwhelmed by the amount of "shooting the !@#$" that goes on in MGS2, that they start to lose focus on what dialog is important or not.

Yes, there are some very confusing aspects of the story (especially the ending of MGS4), but its not enough to completely drive away the main focus on what the game was trying to portray. Metal Gear's story is one of those things that gets unnecessarily hammered to death because it is a game that ACTUALLY has a story that doesn't involve space marines, or an androgynous spiky haired male carrying a massive sword...

Most nintendo games

Halo 3 is where the series should have ended. Reach is ok I guess, but this whole new trilogy thing is a little much. I'm still going to play them though lol.

I hope Gears 3 is the last one and MGS4 should be that last MGS game.

GoW2 was such a better game than GoW ever was. I would gladly take the extension of the story which wasn't fantastic to begin with to have GoW2 exist in our memory.funsohng
