Grand Theft Auto III was certainly more revolutionary. Vice City is my favorite though.

3 was probably more revolutionary, but 4 is by no means any less impressive.

It is so refined and with all the stuff added to GTA 4 and how much better the gameplay is now, id say GTA 4 still is an amazing game in its own right.

especially when compared to other open world games. GTA 4 is in a league of its own.

GTA3 was better. It basically invented the sandbox genre.

III completely changed how we look at 3D games... IV has only further built on its success by slightly changing up and refining the exact same formula III made so popular. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying, both to us and themselves.

Not really, like with Doom, other games came before and "invented" the certain idea but it was III (and Doom) which popularized it.

Definitely GTA IV. Niko is the greatest GTA character yet. But GTA III is more pick-up-and-play. It's not like that in GTA IV, but pretty much everything else is better, instead.

I would say GTA III simply because of how revolutionary it felt at the time. But thats not to take anything away from GTA 4, I love it!

I enjoyed Vice City more than any other GTA game to date. However, between GTA3 and 4, i would have to say 4 is better, just because of the characters. The main character in GTA3 lacked any personality (he didnt even speak). The main character in GTA4 (as well as the other characters) all feel alive.

I personally like GTA IV better I feel Nikko is the best new character to come around in a long time. The story line almost hollywood like in fact better in most cases, amazing in almost every aspect. however GTA III was more revolutionary games today and the PS2 wouldnt be here today w/o GTA III. But once again I like GTA IV the most of any GTA game

GTA did not invite sandbox games. Just one game for example that was doing it before GTA is Elder Scrolls. GTA just brought sandbox into mainstream gaming .

SA and realistic in the same sentence haha. The Protagonist was a gangster that knew how to fly a fighter jet haha how is that realistic.

Remember that this is saying which one you thought was more revolutionary, not which one you liked more.

GTA III was revolutionary. GTA IV reminds me too much of Saints Row.

GTA3 had far more impact and turned a mediocre shock tactics dependant series into something revolutionary and respected, it was also the first PS2 game that actually proved the console was superior to the DC.
