I was at EBgames.com and saw a ps3 for 599. Then I found a Xbox 360 for 399. So end of story, right...?

But then I saw a HD-DVD add-on for 199... then I remember i have to get Xbox live for like a 50 per year. Oh and the new 120 gig Hard drive for 179....

So if you plan to sit at home and just play games off line and not watch HD movies then get a 360. But if you want a home entertainment system buy a ps3...  IMO

*editted xbox live price from 100 down to 50...* :)

I honestly feel the ps3 is a better deal, but if you want to play games and don´t have any patience the 360 is the way to go right now, I can only get one console, to many things I need to buy lol so I went with the ps3, the games that are coming are going to be amazing but I will have to wait some time.

well obviously the 360 is cheaper, but in terms of what you get (eg if you bought a bigger hdd, hddvd drive etc for the 360) i dont think theres much in it.

Which is "cheeper"? A public education isn't very expensive. You might want to look into that before you buy a video game system.

I can deal without HD movies myself, and it's $50 a year. The harddrive, well that depends on how much you plan to download.

The 360 costs 399 USD. The PS3 with Ferrari F430 and a house in Malibu costs 23,191,680.

Er... why don't you use the Elite for comparison instead of the Premium? It's $480..

Here is a more realistic look at it.

Hd-DVD doesn't have much support and doesn't really have any good movies for it, you would be a complete idiot to buy a 200$ extension for it. IF you want to play online, that will cost you about 50$ a year as an xbox user, and if you have a wireless network, you will need to buy a 50-80 wireless gaming adapter. While with a PS3 you get free online and a wireless adapter.

So, if you take advantage of online capabilities, The PS3 could be cheaper, because a lot of homes use wireless networks. But then again, it also depends on if you bought a 300$ or 400$ Xbox360.

Woah!  Hold on there!  Some many unessery costs.  Lets look at this.  The 360 already comes with the HD-DVD and you don't need either Live nor the 120 gig hard drive.  Besides, live only costs 50 bucks a year.  Your theard fails hard.

If you factor in all of the ps3's features, it's a way better deal.  hd storage, hdmi 1.3, standard hdd, better processor, free online, wireless, reliability, it's way superior.  But people generally buy game consoles for games, and currently, the games on the 360 are better. Plus, people won't necesarily use the high-end features of the ps3.

By the way, why did they pick such a silly name for the xbox 360?  360 what?  360 degrees of motion?  Makes no sense at all.  I can understand the Wii, the name appeals to children, and the PS3 is a continuation of the PS2, but 360?  Just cause they didn't want an xbox 2 in a ps3 market?

Based on just number alone, this is what i tlooks like

360 Elite (this actually saves you money rather than a premium + the 120 HDD) 480$

HD-DVD drive- 200$

wifi- 100$

1 year of XBL- 50

grand total: 830$

PS3 60g- 600$

bluray - included

Wifi - Included

PSN - Free

Grand total: 600$

so thats it by Numbers only.

sigh.....it's pathetic that cows are still hung-up on price. It's truly a sign of how horrible the PS3 is doing in sales.

FYI: My PS3 has cost me more than my x360 has. And I'd be willing to bet that's the case for the vast majority of PS360 owners.

I just recently got the HD DVD player for the 360, but it was 1 year later, So I wouldn't really add that to the actual price for my 360. It's an addon. If you are going to calculate that, then you might as well calculate the price of games, because as Sony has shown us all games really aren't important....

Topic: If you want to compare both (i.e. same capabilities, as in like, HD media player Wi-fi hub, high speed internet connected media center and so on) PS3 is a better and cheaper choice. For a game console, X360 does have a year advantage, and the PS3 is yet to have lots of games, exclusive ones or new IPs, not ports, on it (they are comming). So its about what you wanna play. Wich one will have the games you want to play, the library that you want to play. Quite simple.

Look you can't sit here and add acessories as part of the price because it does not come with the system itself.  If you were to buy the Xbox 360 off the shelf it is $200 dollars cheaper, if you go with the Elite it $120 cheaper.  So in conclusion the 360 is cheaper.  Accessories are gonna be more expensive that is business.  I'm sure that if you add some of the other accessories that the PS3 has it would go up in price as well.  The bottom line is WIFI built in is not nessacary nor is it needed, HD-DVD player is also not needed, and oh ya 120 gig hard drive is not as well.  Oh and by the way yes wireless is nice but being is wired is faster which you would want if you are playing online.  Oh and the XBL cost because Microsoft uses its own servers which means 95% of all games that come out for 360 will be muliplayer, which of course on the PS3 there is not a gaurentee that there is online because Devs do not want to spend the money for the servers to do so.  So what is cheaper all comes down in taste really, are the accessories needed?

Yes you do have good points, but this is not what the thread is about.  It is about costs, and being a year out earlier does not explain the cost differences between the 360 and PS3

Actually i can Add accessories becasue thats all the junk you need to buy to equal all the features found on a PS3. Devs dont need to buy servers for PS3 online games as everything is hosted through your PS3 (Im pretty sure, but could be wrong)

Remember scalable DVD to 1080p.  Gives a reason to actually throw away your DVD player now.

in order to match all the features the ps3 has, the 360 ends up being more expensive. However, if you dont care about HD-DVD, WIFI, and dont mind paying for XBL anyways, the 360 is cheaper.

Might as well add in the price of the chair you'll sit in.

You've shouldn't of said that because MS might actually make you pay for it now!

Based on just number alone, this is what i tlooks like

360 Elite (this actually saves you money rather than a premium + the 120 HDD) 480$

HD-DVD drive- 200$

wifi- 100$

1 year of XBL- 50

grand total: 830$

PS3 60g- 600$

bluray - included

Wifi - Included

PSN - Free

Grand total: 600$

so thats it by Numbers only.

If you buy an HD player for your X360....basically burning money.  I suggest waiting until they get a blu-ray add on, more than likely it will be the winner of the format war.

Just FYI though, most customers only look at the price of the console.....asking them to do math means you have faith in our current school system....don't hold your breath.  I mean you could go on and give this lenghy explaination of why X360 games really cost $80-100 each while PS3 games are $60.  Then go explain the online costs, accessory costs.......pretty soon the customers eyes glaze over.  The typical customer will look at one thing......basic X360 costs $300, basic PS3 costs $600.  Everything else doesn't matter to the average person.....doesn't mean PS3 isn't a better deal but it takes too much math to realize it.

You don't have a 360 right? How would you buy the premium 360 and a 120 GB, when you can save 100 bucks on an elite?
