[QUOTE="Cute_Red_Panda"][QUOTE="eklineage"]For smash button mashing does not work. It works for fighters. But one must take into account that some ppl dont think smash is a fighting game. Smash is not for casuals i can tell you that much. Well at least melee wasn't for casuals. Who knows for brawl.
Also, i think im gonna expand my gaming type list ...i think im gonna get into fighters. Can any1 recommend me some good fighters for ps3 besides soul calibur 4.

This coming from a guy who doesn't know about fighter in the first place...
do u make it your job to pick fights? THe thing is if you go against a computer in smash, button mashing will do poorly. For sp in games like sc u can get by using this tactic. Stop being defensive.
that mean "with you logic" that tekken is fighting game for core until it sells so good that it transform into a casual game that is not for the core right ? :)
fishfake
Now you're getting it. In order for something to have mass appeal it must be simple (i.e. Halo to CounterStrike, Zelda to SoTC, Madden to ESPN2k5, Smash to Virtua Fighter). I'm just calling it like I see it. Whether you want to admit it or not isn't my problem.

ic so any game that is really popular is for casuals. I will keep that in mind o.0
what makes games casual for me is more how difficult a game is too reach the goal !
casual games are easy too beat course if they stuck in the game they get frustrated ! the core gamers on the other hand are happy if they get games where it is near impossible too beat ! and thats why ssb whas never a game for casuals !!!

[QUOTE="Guybrush_3"][QUOTE="Cute_Red_Panda"]Why do casuals arrogantly say Smash is the best fighter. You're casuals...you only played Smash...You think Tekken and SF are too hard so you stick with a game that's easy for you... Anyways, I would have to go with the Arcade. Cute_Red_Panda
Fighting is my favorite genre and SSBM is tied for my favorite fighting game (with SFIII:TS)
That's cool. I have no problem if it's your favorite. I don't hate smash (love the game). I just don't like when people think it's the undisputed champion.
ahh ok. considering there is more than one type of fighter you cant definitively say that anyone type or game is the best. but as for button mashers I think that Tekken can get way more button mashy than smash.

Um I'm sensing damage control. You posted those Japanese Tournaments in hopes of off setting the fact that EVO has Melee and you wanted to show that no other High Profile Japanese tournaments had Smash. Nice try though.
People don't say that Smash is serious because its at EVO. Its because the SRK community and fighting cirlces around the world have chose to accept it as a fighter. So stop living in denial. Its accepted. T-H-E E-N-D. Who cares about your one individual opinion.

"EVO Championship Series events are the premier destinations for fighting and action game fans around the world. Thousands of competitors from over 30 countries compete in our open tournament. Evo offers the best competition, featuring the greatest international players, from Kuwait and Korea to Japan, the US, and everywhere in between. In 2007, Evo is expanding to a four-event series, with regional qualifiers in gaming hot-spots in the American East, West, and North, in addition to our world finals held in Las Vegas, Nevada. All EVO events (including the finals!) are open tournaments that do not require pre-qualification that you'll see in other leagues. We believe in the value of competition; if you think you've got the skills, you are welcome to step up and try your luck against the best in the world."
Yeah EVO is small time. You keep telling yourself that....
[QUOTE="Blackbond"]Well there's Guilty Gear, Tekken and VF :(Those are like once a year sort of thing.I better see KOF XII in there when it hits the states....
kage_53
Yeah but they've slowed down quite a bit. After 2003 it took a while before XI came out. But then again that could have been due to SNK's situation at the time.

They still had Guilty Gear X2 but that was only there for about 1 year. Tekken manages to decent in EVO VF doesn't. Most people that play it on a high competitive level are the Japanese.[QUOTE="SolidTy"][QUOTE="Blackbond"][QUOTE="SolidTy"]I have the HORI stick for VF, and it's just no where near the quality of sticks I could buy for my PS2 yesteryear.
Blackbond
Which Hori Stick do you have? The Hori EX2 for the 360? And what stick did you have for PS2?
I used to have the limited DOA4 stick but took that back due to the rolling ball on top, and now I have the Hori EX2 VF5 lmtd.I just am not satisfied with the horrible button layout, nor the rolling ball's return on top of the stick. These balls are great for Pac man, but annoy the crap out of me for fighters, as you don't find them on actual machines like that (Of which I spent Hundreds of thousands of hours). Don't get me wrong, Hori makes great sticks, but they aren't styled properly for me.
For the PS2 (and Original Xbox as well), I've owned the official Street Fighter 15th Anniversary Edition Arcade stick, 2 Namco Tekken sticks (Are they PSOne sticks? About the same quality of the Hori sticks, minus the rolling ball), and a sweet Xblade stick.
Hopefully someone soon will recognize these quirks in the sticks we have to today.
Are you talking about the ball top being bad?
And saying that you don't find them in Arcades instead you find these?
Yes, Exactly. For precision, that's what it's all about. It can be done with either, but the 2nd one is SOOOO much more preferable.
[QUOTE="SolidTy"]TC : The Analog stick may be better on 360 TO YOU, but not for games like VF5 dude.
Dpad is a HUGE factor, especially when you compare the arcade sticks that are out. I have the HORI stick for VF, and it's just no where near the quality of sticks I could buy for my PS2 yesteryear.
Anyways, There really isn't a great console YET, but with the PS3's dominance over the 360 in Japan, I would lean towards the PS3 getting the lionshare of Fighters, especially knowing TEKKEN 6 is coming. Heck, Tekken 5 HD ONLINE is a blast, and although isn't big here in SW, it's more fun than my copy of DOA4.
The Wii just doesnt' have the goods to keep up with the other two, but it will have SSBB for YEARS. Like how SSBM was played on GC for years.
pDbOy_26
I have seen you post on other of my Fighting messages. Since we are both HUGE FIGHTING GAME FANS. i propose a competition, a gentlemens competition. I play you in VF5 using my analog stick, and you use ure arcade stick. We will see who wins!!!!!
Soud good?
That sounds fantastic, but I'm not satisfied with my 360 Hori EX2 Arcade stick, nor my 360 dpad/analog stick. I can do more at the arcades, or even on the PS2/PS3 pads than I can on my 360 version of the game. I'm afraid, until there is a provision to allow me to use my PS2/PS3 controllers, or an improved fighting stick, I won't be able to provide you the challenge and thrill people get when they play me in the local arcade. I am still up for it, but you will find me easier than I should be...
Speaking truthfully, the biggest reason why you don't see any SNK games at EVO is because the amount of players that play SNK games competitively in the U.S. is ridiculously small.
Most of the SNK base is in Latin America, China, and a fair share in Japan.
the playstation controller has to be the best controller this generation. it has not changed that much in the last ten years. there's a reason you should do things right the first time, and Sony has done it with their game controller. RapBand
Did you seriously just suggest people to use the playstation controller to play fighting games? Wow and this is coming from someone who uses the Nubi Tech controller to play Third Strike.

Yes, Exactly. For precision, that's what it's all about. It can be done with either, but the 2nd one is SOOOO much more preferable.
What you are describing is your preference nothing is wrong with the Ball Top or the quality of those previous sticks. I'll explain. The Ball Top mainly fatured in Hori/Sanwa/Semitsu sticks are Japanese sty1e sticks. They mainly use a Square gate. Which means the area the Joystick moves in in a Square. Think of the PS2 analogs as circular gates and the Wii as octagonal gates.
The Bottom one the Bat Handle is primarily an American made stick. Happs or knock off ones like the Street Fighter Anniversary Stick you had use circular gates.
To put it short the ball top is primarily featured in Japan while in America we use the Bat Handles.
Most Ball tops use Square gates while most american sty1e sticks use circular. Although the IL Euro Stick (the ones I have) are Square they feel circular.
Also American sty1e buttons are like a rectangle 2 rows and 3 columns.
The Japanese have their buttons curved a bit like you see in the Hori EX2.
What you are seeing is not the Hori being an inferior stick to your SF Anniversary Stick what you are seeing is preference. I have both types of sticks both square/circular and Balltop Bat. Like you I prefer the Bat handle circular gate but I do prefer the slanted Japanese layout compared to the recatangular look. I also belive the Square gate is more appropriate in some fighters then the circular gate and vice versa.
So in the future if you ever buy a stick I would recommend you get something with a circular gate and a bat handle as that seems to be what you like.
But if you're really talking quality the Hori sticks are much better then the Street Fighter Anniversary's stick's knock off Happs parts.
These aren't really quirks you're talking about its just the design. These are the kinds of sticks you find in Japanese Arcades which is why you haven't seen them much in the U.S.
And after this I just realized you said they just aren't sty1ed properly for me
Go figure after all my typing lol. But hey at least you learned something about Arcade Sticks should you choose to buy one in the future. For your tastes go with a bat handle circular gate :)
That sounds fantastic, but I'm not satisfied with my 360 Hori EX2 Arcade stick, nor my 360 dpad/analog stick. If you don't like it I'd be willing to buy it off you. Its a Grade B stick imo and the best stock stick you can buy on the market at a store besides an HRAP.

The Stick itself handles fine, just annoying that it's seems the only stick I can get for now. If there were other quality sticks for 360, I'd be down, but right now, that's all I got for my next gen fighters.
