I'd say platforming. Unless its mario, you never see those games succeed. You?

*sees sounds shapes get a 9* Pretty sure you're wrong there. Point and click adventures aren't getting too much love right now. Flight simulators seem to be getting zero love though.

I would say god games and tycoon games are pretty much dead. Which is a shame because I love those genres

Second_Hokage
Me? I see those games succeed lots of times.
Rayman Origins got a sequel
Even crap Sonic games get sequels.
Ratchet and Clank gets sequel after sequel.
Super Meat Boy, Braid, Trine and Limbo were all very popular indie platformers.
And that's just off the top of my head, there are way more examples this gen alone.
Platforming may not be as big as it was in the 80s and 90s but a dead video game genre ? Are you kidding me ?
[QUOTE="Second_Hokage"]I'd say platforming. Unless its mario, you never see those games succeed. soooo, you're wrong there TC.
Sound shapes just got a 9... Sly 4 is coming out, the collection did well, and we got the Rachet collection later this month, and can already play the stellar future series. Rayman Legends has picked up some steam as an overlooked Jem, and Most everyone who wants a WiiU wants Rayman Legends Big daddy gaming is coming out with two new platformers, NSMB2 and NSMBU Even the goddamn 360 has seen hit platformers on XBLA, with N+, Super Meat Boy and 'Splosion man Platformers are doing just fine as a genre. If I had to pick one that was dead, it would be music games. Or first person shooters, those are dead to me.I'd say platforming. Unless its mario, you never see those games succeed. You?

Music games arent dead, if we look at Harmonix they keep shelling out great content and good titles that people keep buying. The guitar hero fad might have passed but Rock band basically blew its brains out in any half serious players books.
the point and click adventure games, I miss those, easily more dead than the platformerlamprey263
Well there are games like Back to the future and The Walking Dead but I agree. The old HARD as F*CK games like the longest journey, monkey island ect ect are pretty much gone.
People just refuse to think in gaming these days. Durptie durp, COD, pew pew

yeah its point and click with 5 buttons that arent on the mouse. if you could mang it without it being awkward you could probably play CoD 1 handed on pc (which would be great for you if you had a second screen am i rite?)[QUOTE="R4gn4r0k"]

And besides you can stand perfectly still in an online COD match, just look around (point) & shoot (click) and you will get kills.
Which is the deadest video game genre?Second_Hokage
Very single one of them. 001011000101101
I like this forum !
THere's some good ones on XBLA. Castle Crashers, The Dishwasher series and Scott Pilgrim are sidescrolly beat em up. :)arcade beatemups , like doubledragon and golden axe , i miss those

JRPGs. There's been maybe half a dozen all gen, across all consoles, that were any good. (I know there's lots more on handhelds but... screw handhelds :P)[QUOTE="AmnesiaHaze"]THere's some good ones on XBLA. Wrong. Unless you're purely talking about 3D platformers, you have no idea what you're talking about. 2D platformers are thriving in the download space. There's an insane amount of quality platformers to download these days. Even at retail, there are a few that succeed. Mario isn't the only successful platformer today. Sonic and Rayman for example.I'd say platforming. Unless its mario, you never see those games succeed. You?

Just FYI tho.The old point and click adveture games are infamous for thier extremeley hard mind bending puzzles. Back in the day wen you couldn't look up sh*t on the net it would take months and months to beat one of these games or more often then you would't beat it at all.
You actually think that in point and click aveture games you just... point and click ?? To what people am I talking to in these boards, wtf.
true stealth such as thief or the original splinter cell games...not metal gear stealth which isn't actually stealth.

Trying to understand the silly logic of those games was annoying. THey'd be fun if logical solutions. But it was usually some convuleted bullspit imo.*sees sounds shapes get a 9* Pretty sure you're wrong there. Point and click adventures aren't getting too much love right now. Guybrush_3
Flight sims seem to have had a resurgence this gen. You just won't find them in most game forums because most flight simmers don't think of their favorite genre as being a game. They prefer flight sim-centric websites such as flightsim.com.
This gen so far. This gen seems to have double the number from last gen:
MS Flight Simulator X
Ubisoft IL2: 1946
Laminar research X-Plane 9
Laminar Research X-Plane 10
DCS: Black Shark
DCS: A-10
Ubisoft IL2: Cliffs of Dover (origin of my animated sig)
777 Studios Rise of Flight
Bohemia Interactive Take on Helicopters
Ikarus Aeroflight FS
Thirdwire Productions Strike Fighters 2
Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your game here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.
Pheonix Wright objects. ;)You don't manualy write the commands in, so it's not a text adventure, just ordinary adventure.[QUOTE="KungfuKitten"]
Text adventure?
ShadowsDemon
That said, text adventures are doing pretty well. The fan scene produces excellent work for free in this genre and there even have been some commercial ones released in recent years.
