PC = hardware + software .... so tech MS owns half of the PC at most ......... that's if we consider the windows to be 50% ..... this is very confusing ..... x360 is a complere package, once you bought it, you play, but MS windows isn't a console, without the right hardware, it's useless, ironically MS doesn't make hardware, which means MS doesn't own the PC, but it's a partner in it.

The only common thing they have is the OS, the hardware does not matter, intel gets money from 360 like they would from PC anyway, MS selling it does not mean much
MS owns 99.99% of PC gaming and 30% of console gaming, all games are on their platform, be Windows or 360
Neither. I don't own an Xbox 360 and have no intention of doing so because I do not buy worthless things, and the PC is not a "Microsoft Platform".
Um, Windows is a program, not a platform. Nice try though trying to make it seem like MS has ownership over PC.

Windows is very much a platform, games are written for Windows using Windows code, they're not written 'for the PC' as such. A percentage of the code running for any game is Windows code that you've paid Microsoft for, without it, it's not complete and would not run.
When people refer to the PC platform they're really referring to the Windows platform

Microsoft Windows NT** family is an operating system. You can install LinuxPPC on Xbox 360. A "native" platform involves hardware andoperating system.
**Includes NT 3.x, NT 4.0, 2000(NT5.0), XP(NT5.1), 2003(NT5.2), Vista(NT6.0), 7(NT6.1).

The majority of PC vendors "recommends Microsoft WIndows". Your PC's ACPI and AMD64(1) standard was designed with Microsoft's help i.e. MS killed IBM's Power64-X86 upgrade path. PC hardware clone business was aided by Microsoft i.e. MS-DOS is not exclusive for IBM PC. Historically, most clone PCs aims for MS-DOS compatibility.
I might point out that the link between AMD (from DEC's Alpha EV6 group) and Microsoft Windows NT group (from DEC's VMS group) is basically a reconstruction of Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). You see this with MS's half-hearted support for Intel Itanium and out-right rejection of IBM's POWER64-X86 (PowerPC 615) path(3).

Video statement by Microsoft's Dave Cutler (One of the core programmers for Windows NT kernel and DEC's VMS(2)
Over the last ten years, the applications we've put on PCs have grown. They've grown in size and computational demands. And 32-bits of address space just isn't enough anymore. The size of databases has grown to the point where we just can't get the performance out of the 32-bit address space that we need to get to continue to support these applications. Over the past few years, we've added a few features to extend the life of the 32-bit system(a), but it's not enough, and we need to move to 64-bits to continue to support these large databases and high-end desktop applications. Over the past couple of years, I've been working with AMD on their next-generation K8 processor. What's really exciting about the K8 is that it has both 32-bit and 64-bit capabilities(3). Furthermore, the 64-bit systems will be able to run the existing 32-bit applications so that will protect customer's investments in software and hardware. Currently, we have the 32-bit Windows XP and Windows 2000 server systems running on the K8 for silicon, which has proven to be very stable. We also have a developmental 64-bit version of Windows XP and Windows.net server running on this very same hardware system. I'm really excited about this chip."

Most of NT's core designers had worked on and with VMS at Digital; some had worked directly with Cutler. How could these developers prevent their VMS design decisions from affecting their design and implementation of NT? Many users believe that NT's developers carried concepts from VMS to NT, but most don't know just how similar NT and VMS are at the kernel level.
..
Although Microsoft presents NT as a homegrown OS, NT is actually much older than its official 1993 birthdate. NT contains architectural and design influences from another company's flagship OS. Interestingly, throughout the 1990s, Digital introduced many NT features to VMS, and Microsoft has added VMS developments to NT. For example, VMS featured native clustering support in 1984, and 64-bit memory and system APIs in 1996. Microsoft did not introduce clustering support to NT until late last yearÂand only on a limited scaleÂand several years might pass before Microsoft releases 64-bit NT. Reciprocally, Microsoft released NT's first version with support for kernel-mode threads, system-wide event logging, and a configuration database called the Registry. VMS introduced kernal-mode threads in VMS 7.0 in 1995, and VMS 7.2 will include NT-****event logging and a Registry.

The processor was only produced in prototype examples and the program was killed in part by the fact that Microsoft would probably never give support for the processor.
Just remember this, AMD64/X86-64 is Windows X64 on hardware. All PC vendors that ships Windows operating systems are protected by Microsoft's patents.
The 360 is the worst platform of all time imho, at least Windows is open to thrid parties etc. The 360 is just a greed box made for maximizing profits for MS, no mods, forced fee's, no free content etc.FailureImoOfc
But has the ease of use and cheaper factors
Both have saved me millions, i am not wasting my time with installs, tweaking, virus killing, performance etc of PC and gain precious time from my actual life, that i otherwise waste without any meaning
Now 99% of my gaming time is actually playing, on PC 90% of my "gaming" time was handling the PC
And of course i dont have to upgrade every month to make new games playable

Being better > Being easier to use. And plus were in 2010, if you have any sort of problems using an OS like Windows 7 you've been living in a cave. The 360 is just terrible in all aspects, want online I have to pay to upgrade for wifi, then I have to pay for Live, want to play for more then 10 hours? I have to buy batteries, want to install stuff or download demo's, have to upgrade the HDD which costs like a million dollars, want a map pack, have to buy it. Want mods? Too bad. Want dedicated servers? Too bad... Then you have rrod and e74 and disc scrating, then you have to be carefull not to wake up the neighborhood because the 360 sounds like a jet engine on steroids.[QUOTE="theseekar"][QUOTE="FailureImoOfc"]The 360 is the worst platform of all time imho, at least Windows is open to thrid parties etc. The 360 is just a greed box made for maximizing profits for MS, no mods, forced fee's, no free content etc.FailureImoOfc

Also i hate the keyboard controls which destroy immersion for meand never play online
Again, i have a real actual life outside games, and consoles suit me fine at this time of my life, i only play SP games and that when and if i have the time from vastly more important things

but..... but i thought you were always searching for the perfect ports, the one that's not missing a single frame rate, the one you can run at 8x AA ..... etc ......i have bought a mid range PC 2 years ago and it's still working perfectly with most of the modern games. Please Log In to post.
