Buying a PS1 with Metal Gear Solid. I was not ready for such bizarre awesomeness that awaited. I thought I was dreaming half of the time or possibly losing my sanity. It was surreal.

Playing Goldeneye 007 on N64. It was just brilliant! I remember having so much fun hunting the Golden Gun with my friends in multiplayer and enjoying kicking their asses with a single shot.

Playing GTA San Andreas on PS2 was brilliant too. Best PS2 game ever. I remember looking for a so-called Big Foot! :P

Playing Shemue for the first time at a friends and messing around in the forklift and getting an Xbox on launch day and playing Halo co-op with a friend all day are probably 2 of my best gaming related memories.

Many...

Beating Andross's true form in Star Fox 64 for the first time. I was 6.

Finding a Shiny Drowzee that had Pokerus in my old Gold Version (the chances of that were beyond astronomical).

Killing the Cyberdemon with a chainsaw on the original DOOM.

Beating a Tank to death with Gnome Chompski in Left 4 Dead 2 (I decided to try and do this when bored one day. It took almost a hundred tries and deaths).

______________

These are all some of my most precious and proud gaming achievements, but my most precious gaming memory was when I borrowed Yoshi's Story from my cousin when I was 5 for a couple of weeks. It was the first game I was actually good at and the game that got me obsessed with platformers, still my favorite genre to this day. It's not the first game I ever played, not by a long shot, but it was the first game I enjoyed to the point of obsession and is still a favorite of mine. The moment I beat Baby Bowser was one of the proudest moments of my life and signaled the beginning of my love of video games. Before I played Yoshi's Story, I only thought of video games as minor amusements at most and rarely, if ever, played them, despite me owning a Genesis and an N64 with a decent collection of great games. Yoshi's Story made me the gamer I am today, and I hold the few weeks I had that game among my most precious memories.

There are just too many to list but here's a few for those interesed.

My first moment playing Halo. The first level played was a claustrophobic shoot-out typical in the shooter genre, which was followed by an amazingly vast sandbox just ripe for combat exploration. FPS games always teased the outside world but we were still largely stuck in massive corridors.

Playing Brute Force co-op with my brother, a guy who hardly games. It was an epic bonding experience and we have yet to do anything like that since.

Wasting hours of study time playing Team Fortress 2 and other Source games due to their insanely handy though productivity killing alt tab times (borderless windows ftw!)

Wasting many nights with friends on Halo 3's forge. Everyone who's played Halo knows of the possibilities in the game for laughter.

Screaming through the last leves on Veteran for Spec Ops on MW2. Despite the screams, we felt like men after taking down all them JuggerNauts.

Playing Left 4 Dead and seperating the cowards and the brave. The game is a real eye opener in who to trust for a real zombie apocolypse.

Theres many more as well. This is what I love about gaming. Films are great and all, but the best moments are the ones you create yourself, or with your best buddies and even strangers. This is what gaming is about. Your own experience.

trying to finish Sonic 1 every weekend.

back then we didn't have game saves, so you have to finish it in one sitting. and as a kid, just getting through a level was no fun. i had to learn the secret areas, know where the forcefield and rings are, and try to collect as many lives as possible since if you're on the 5th Stage and you run out of lives you have to start all over again and go through 4 stages with 3 zones each stage which meant 4 boss battles.

we got so good at games back then through trial and error. we often say the music was so memorable but that's because we spent so much time on that first stage of a game ('cause there was no save file) that we memorized every note and music and every corner of that stage.

now you ask kids the theme songs of the first stages of Uncharted or God Of War and they won't be able to hum or sing to it. kids these days have it easy.

It was a school tag day and one of my teachers brought his PlayStation with a copy of Tekken 3. I didn't make a big deal of it but inside I was really excited because I love Tekken 3 and practiced every day after school. So I thought I should play, paid up as it was for charity and proceeded kicking everyones arse including the teachers with my trusty Jin and Paul combo. Eventually I was told to leave because of my bad-assery, I walked out of the class room like a boss.

When I saw this.

ff6intro.png

I just knew the game would be amazing... and it was. I'll never forget that first day with FFVI. The game pulled me in more than any I had played before. My kid sisters were just as enamored as I was. They were huddled around the tv with me while I read the dialogue aloud for them. I had to give them updates and summaries every time they missed a part. Good times.

A close 2nd would be the first time I beat SMB. I remember that morning clearly as well. I felt so proud and went to brag about it at the park near the apt. and of course the other kids were like "that ain't sh*t"... but I thought it was an amazing achievement!

Nope sorry. I'm not as sensitive and easily offended like a lot of people around here are, Kinda hard get me annoyed or upset over a videogame

I'm coming to a conclusion based on observations. I said more than one game, sure I praised MGS3 as great but I also named others that had a great variety in gameplay types. All he does is talk about MGS like the way an addict talks about cocaine.

What makes him so bad is that he claims to be some MGS mega fan when in fact he knows very, very little about the series.

Which is also true. He just likes MGS4 and then decided that they're all perfect.

As an MGS fan myself I didn't even like MGS4 all that much,It's a good game but the other ones are better, but when I tried to tell him why it's like he had no idea what I was talking about when referring to the older games.

Getting to number 1 flag capper in Mechwarrior 2 on Microsoft online, only for a brief while (couple of weeks) but I was playing on mostly American servers with a 56k modem from the UK :)

and

Downing Ragnaros for the first time in Vanilla WoW. We were on a new server after migrating from a really busy one, so getting a steady 40 man raid together was an acheivement on it's own and it took us a few attempts just to get there.

1. Playing Super Mario Bros for the first time and discovering the first warp zone.

2. Watching my friend blowing up the Eifel Tower in Twisted Metal 2 and realising a new era in gaming was about to begin.

3. Having my mind blown by MGS1's amazingly (for their time) cinematic cut scenes and tense stealth gameplay.
