I say Xbox 360.

The Wii is unarguably the most casual, but I think the PS3 is finding a sort of middle ground with games like Little Big Planet and free online services for those who only play online casually (And don't want to pay for a superior service they wont use very often.)

Granted, the 360 has casual appeal, but I think its main focus seems to be on that hardcore group that's not quite hardcore enough to go with the PC.

So the way I see it:

Wii: Casual

PS3: Casual/Core

360: Hardcore

If you were to put it into terms of black and white.

I see what you mean, and I don't think there's much difference between the 360 and the PS3.

And : "There are no hardcore games (consoles), only hardcore gamers"

(And why didn't you consider the PC?)

I figured this place is mostly about consoles. Plus the PC is the obvious choice.

Seriosuly, none of the systems are "hardcore"....

Having better communication features doesnt make an online service more "hardcore"

I know this is SW, but in the real world people are vegin out on PSN just as they are on LIVE. Paying for LIVE does not make a gamer more hardcore and its not as if PSN users arent getting a quality gameplay experience as well. If the money spent on LIVE guaranteed dedicated servers for every game then things would be different, but as things are now, the quality of online play is on even ground.

As for the argument of libraries, once again, even ground. The ratio of harcore games to casual are roughly the same on each. They are like sister consoles and each one edges out the other in different respects, but at the end of the day its about even.

That said, I would look at like this in terms of most hardcore.

Using the same train of thought, you could also argue that a cheaper console is better for a casual core.

Considering you also get a Bluray player when you buy a PS3, I don't think price is relevant in that case.

You could also look to the low sales of LBP and say that the PS3 owners are so hardcore that its beneath them to play such a game.

The next big thing in SW, arguing over who sells the least casual games :P

no the low sales of LBP proves ps3 owners are idiots who can't appreciate a brilliant title. Its one of the best games of the year. And the later levels are hard. Try finishing some of those levels without dying. It ain't easy.

There it went.......right over his head. Anyways dude, Im sorry, but when people go to purchase a 360 I doubt theyre actually saying "damn man I gotta get this 360 cause LIVE costs 50 bucks a year and that makes me hardcore!" I know that wasnt my train of thought at least. I wanted it for the games and Im sure others would agree. Both systems aim for the same market so Im really not sure why you even made such a pointless thread. If Sony decides to make PSN $100 a year does that make PSN players twice as hardcore. This thread is silly as is your reasoning.

I think it apparently went over your head... As a casual core gamer myself, looking at both systems, I say to MYSELF "Boy, to play online it costs me $50 a year. I should go with the PS3 because I don't play online often enough to justify $4 a month." On the other hand, some players might say, "Hmm... Live is better for online gaming, and I game online a lot, so I think the 360 is a better choice." Not that that is the sole reason somebody might buy a system, but it's an influence.

I could make the argument that paying to play online cost will cost you $300 by the end of this gen, if you bought your 360 at the beginning of this gen. Not to mention, with only a $100 difference between the PS3 and the 360 equivalent (The one with the hardrive) that difference covers the bluray player; it's not as if the PS3 is expensive for no reason.

Personally i think that the PS3 is the more hardcore title. Although this might not reflect in all titles such as LBP. Games Like Wipeout and MGS (on Bigboss hard/extreme mode) have a very higher difficulty level than that of single player games on the xbox,

If I saw someone turn a pile of sand into a PC then I would agree with you. But seeing as everyone just buys ready made components and just bunged them in a case then they hardly built it themselves. lol I have attached a wireless adapter to my 360 myself as well as plugged in the HDMI and power plugs... I feel so proud of the console I built.. lol... :)

The Wii IMO is more hardcore than people who just play on the 360 and PS3. Yes the Wii has it's casual appeal, however, the real hardcore gamers (not the phony ones who gets caught up with the big budget game of the month) are the ones who doesn't look at games that have the "hardcore" appeal. Real hardcore gamers don't just play on the 360, they own all the consoles this gen because that's how devoted they are to video games..

I suppose a high end PC could be considerd quite hardcore.

Well atleast consoles are casual by nature.

Dont really think there is a 100% hardcore system though.. Gaming is casual.

WOOHOO! Im hardcore. ive got em all (including this PC which cost me over 3000 euro a couple of years ago roughly. that included a new monitor and stuff of course). ill also play anything from peggle to gears or from endless ocean to metroid prime. nah seriously, theres no hardcore or casual or any of that media nonsense imho. theres gamers and theres games. thats it. if ppl want to limit themselves to certain games then let em...it doesent make them better gamers though. and if ppl are happy with just one console then more power to em....at least there wallet will be fatter :D.
