As I have stated countless times before, The Mongols from Medieval 2: Total War were the hardest enemies I've ever faced in any game. There are several forums where people just discuss tactics to defeat them.

I just beat Extermination for the PS2.

The final boss in that game is a real pain in the ass. I had to use all my ammo and every health item at my disposal to beat him. I was literally one hit away from dying as well. Talk about a difficulty spike, the rest of the game is a breeze in comparison.

Every single boss from MGS 1. Every one of them. I had no clue what I was doing the entire game.

Also the secret bosses from Kingdom Hearts 1

- The seven headed hydra in dark souls (x360)

- The level 4 boss in kung fu master (arcade)

- The dragon in moonstone (amiga)

defeated them all, first one took me a couple of hours, the second one a couple of years, the third one a couple of decades.

@commander: You thought Hydra was harder then 4 Kings? I loved that Hydra fight. Them dang Gargoyles took me a few trys to beat, but that dang Dragon Kalameet wore my arse out.

I heard so much shit about how hard the 4 Kings were supposed to be, then I got there and beat them on my first try, not even sure if they managed to hit me lol.

Sometimes I struggle badly with bosses in the Soulsborne games, but not usually with the ones that I hear horror stories about.

@ConanTheStoner: It happens with Dark Souls, i think it depends on builds. Lots complained about Smough and Ornstein but i didnt have problems with them. Artorias of the Abyss and Kalameet were my worst ones.

I also fought without elements most the time. I remember i cheated and used Fire on Nito cause he got on my nerves. I always thought the elements made fights too easy.

@iandizion713:

Yeah, that's another one with me. Not nearly as easy as 4 Kings, but I think it took me 3, maybe 4 tries to beat them, which isn't so bad.

I think it was the Capra Demon and Sif that wrecked my shit the most in that game.

@ConanTheStoner: Lol, yeah, i thought those were easy. I played sword and board. I think its builds. Majority say the Gargoyles were super easy, but they took me while. But of course, i didnt use summons or elements. I also didnt use magic. My build was just pure sword and board, i was a grinder.

Dank Lurker as melee has to be quite up there for souls games and I've done slvl 1 run on every title, there are some bullshit mechanics that make some bosses hard that normally arent, like ds3 end boss f.e

on NG + the 4 kings spams the AOE attack which depletes all your stamina and damages Health. Then Grab and Gutting you in close quarter. I guess they summon one after another faster too on NG + For winning Green Blossom and Stamina Sheild ( Stamina regenration ) is more need than chugging Estus Flask :(

  • The Warden x3 - Halo 5: Guardians - this boss can go to hell. It's not well designed. It's not fun. It's not satisfying to beat.
  • Gehrman, The First Hunter - Bloodborne - just when I thought I was at the end of the game and I could beat it, I get my ass handed to me by this boss so bad the first time. Rethinking strategy and going to level up and do a few more things in the main game helped me take him down. One of my favorite final bosses in a video game.
  • Bloodstarved Beast - Bloodborne - this guy made me put the game down for about half a year. I was still figuring Bloodborne out, and here comes this boss that's incredibly fast, that poisons, and gets even worse halfway through. And then he would clip through the walls making it feel a little cheap. This guy was my worst time in the whole game.
  • Teh Feelz - The Last of Us - Couldn't get over this boss showing up a number of times, especially right in the beginning of the game. Kicked my ass beastmode style.

I had a poise build , 4 kings was an easy kill. Wore that stone armor a lot, don't remember if I had it with that hydra but either I fell in the water, or was half dead when I got there. I got the best spell ever there though, the chameleon spell (yeah I know, a strong melee build that was capable to cast chameleon, dark souls was harder for me than for most, since I was levelling up too much at once, worked great in oblvion, eh)

Alma always comes to mind first. The definitive Ninja Gaiden boss.

Feel obliged to mention Ornstein & Smough, because come on. I also want to throw in the entire cast of DMC3. Playing that game on DMD mode was physically exhausting, let alone mental.

I'm sure there's quite a few, but the one that sticks out right now is the main card dealer (last boss) in Hands of Fate. Can't beat the game because of the guy. It doesn't help you're so weakened before you get to him because of curses.

It is a video game and so it is doable, it may be hard but it is sure doable.

But the only game in recent memory that was a struggle ;

Bloodborne as it was my first Souls type of games. Super fun, I loved it but it was difficult. Gehrman, Bloodstarved beast, Ebrieta and Amygdala were all the one I had a lot of trouble oh and the Pthumerian Descendent in the last dongeon.

The original Devil May Cry 3, that game was ridiculously hard, people complained a lot and so in a matter of weeks or a few months a new version of the game came out which was drastically easier and put Virgil as a playable caracter. I had the original version and still manage to finish the game but it was so difficult it was ridiculous. The only way for me to get to the end was to master the fighting style that let you parry ( can't remember the name ) with good timing.

  • Ornstein and Smough (Dark Souls) - Took me countless tries to beat them.
  • Pontiff Sulyvahn ( Dark Souls III) - More recent. This is one of the best looking boss fights I've come across and his combos really got me good.
  • Pyro Pete The Invincible (Borderlands 2) - Usually Borderlands 2 bosses are all about trying to figure out what elements to use and experimenting... This boss absolutely destroyed me. The fact that he powers up and becomes PyroCaustic Pete The Ultra Invincible and then deals fire and corrosive damage, not to mention his ridiculously large shield you have to eat through before getting to his HP. His AOE attack spans across the entire arena forcing you to turn on the taps to wash yourself from the DamageOverTime that continues until you drop dead. Also everytime you open a tap enemies spawn in the arena and their levels increase by a horrible scale everytime you open a tap again. Making this boss a nightmare if you don't have the right gear. Certainly the boss I struggled the most with in the entire Borderlands series.

The Dark Fact from YS 1, that boss wouldn't miss any of his fireballs at you. Then the combat of the game uses the bump system where you just run into the enemy to attack, so having that boss fly around and trying to stay alive took over a hundred tries.

The bosses from Alex Kidd in Miracle World. The boss battles were unfair. You had to memorize all their rock-paper-scissor sequences, which required a lot of trial-and-error and wasting of lives (you only had several lives for the whole game).

Also, Omega Weapon in Final Fantasy VIII, and the Metal Gear Rays in MGS2's Extreme modes.

Going with the Kamiya theme from the OP, Captain Blue on Ultra V rated from Viewtiful Joe is an insane test of skill. It's already a challenging fight, but on the highest difficulty it's just so tough.

A more recent example would probably have to be good old Ornstein and Smough. I can't think of another boss in recent memory that has given me as much grief as them (so many people claim that they're not that bad, but I struggle every time). Bosses today tend to be really easy, although there were some really tricky ones in Bayonetta (have yet to attempt fighting Rodin, too).

The last boss in Quantum Break is a real stupid motherfucker. Its not hard but its poorly designed and you're constantly getting stuck on geometry only to get one hit ko'ed.

3. Omega Mark XII ( Beat after tons of death and shit ton of Hours ), Yiazmat ( Took Ages ), 100th level Trial Mode Judges ( MISSION IMPOSSIBLE :( ) - Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System.

4. Ancient Dragon ( Dark Souls II ) - Beat after grinding and upgrading best Fire Resistant Armors (Allone set ), Gyrm Sheild, Fire Resistant +1 Rings to the max but at the cost of tons of death tho on solo )

Well?

I found a great technique online for the ancient dragon. A literal hit and run technique. The trick was to always back off and keep an eye on his animations. If he flaps his wings run to the edge of the arena. Sinh was far harder, imho, because he was faster and had more attack types. (Also I found that for both fights it was best to remove all armor since nothing really works against their attacks. Naked and fast.)

But for my money most difficult Dark Souls II boss goes to Fume Knight. Probably the most fun I had fighting such a near impossible boss.
