Which was the worst console - Gamecube, Xbox or Playstation 2?

The PS2 was the most overhyped console of all time. Definitely not the greatest. Doesn't even compare to the SNES or PSX.

Personally, the Xbox. They just never have exclusives that I like. My favorite console of that generation was the PS2. The GameCube had the games that I like, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as my N64.

Also, the Wii is one of Nintendo's best consoles. I still revisit it to this day. I love the motion controls and how it draws you into the game. Good thing is, it's only hated by a minority of hardcore male gamers, so the rest of the world appreciates it.

@i_p_daily: that's a valid opinion, and it's one that's widely shared/highly common among gamers for good reasons. Virtually every last major breakthrough in multiple genres were made on ps2 games (e.g. action games are always compared to Devil May Cry).

Frankly, I think something is seriously wrong if anyone doesn't recognize this and calls themselves a gamer.

CAPCOM I owned more than 1 PS2 console, yes it was a good console and had great games that's not the debate, calling it the GOAT is debatable because Sony gave out more gaming licenses for the PS2 than a drunk redneck gave out dollar bills to a pole dancer at his local strip joint, and it resulted in some really shoddy games getting released, as quality control was pretty much non existent.

In the end people only want to talk about all the great games, funny that.

I'm sorry but PS2/Xbox Gamecube were all fucking amazing in that era. I own those 3 consoles when I was still in High School and I had butload of fun playing those consoles with badass exclusive games.

Voted: There all great consoles. Yeah it ain't on the poll but I never had any issues with those consoles.

You're right, PCs are required for far too many other non-gaming activities whereas consoles are purely about games.

I know the Xbox was technically more successful than the Gamecube, but by a narrow margin I'd say it was a cooler console. Only ever owned a PS2 myself, but I can remember playing with my friend on hers, and the games were amazingly fun to play. In particular, Resident Evil 4, all the Rogue Squadron games and SSB: Melee. Also preferred it's controller to the PS2 one personally, it felt much better in your hands. The Xbox one always seemed massive, so probably would have been too uncomfortable for me to play with. The redesigned one seemed pretty awesome though.

Another nice thing about the Gamecube was being able to bring my Gameboy games over to my friends, and play them on that. You needed the gameboy player adaptor to use them, but still backwards compatibility is always a plus.

Then again though, the Xbox has a really good lineup of games itself! Jade Empire, KOTOR, Fable, Halo, Morrowind etc... perhaps the best library on any Xbox so far. I don't know, maybe it's a tie between the Xbox and the Gamecube actually, just never had a chance to play one in person so I guess I'm a bit biased there. Nevertheless PS2 is clearly number 1! :D

It can't be Gamecube- it has multiple GOAT's in specific genres- Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4, and Melee in particular. Honorable mentions to Paper Mario TTYD and FZero GX, not to mention 2 Zelda games, Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart, etc.

I would give it to Xbox, but it's close.

The Dreamcast was a part of that generation, you know!

I just hated that Ps2 controller, loved how every generation of consoles but Sony changed it up and offered something new, changing a console for a new one felt amazing because it was a new kit, new everything, for myself playing a Ps2 felt like playing a Ps1 because the controller felt the same, really disappointing to me that they went back to the same design for the ps3.

Looking back all those systems were great, had amazing games. I had access to all those consoles and a great pc back then so I was really spoilt, always will remember lan parties with Halo 2, Smash Bros Melee tournaments, being hung over watching Fable or Final Fantasy X and X-X2 while trying to recover. Also those power bills after a lan party weekend.

So the real answer is none, they were all great, hated the Duke though.

GC was best by far with its' library and amazing controller. PS2 had the biggest library, but not many must-plays and a really crappy controller. Xbox had a small, not super good library, a huge and uncomfortable controller (the smaller ones released later were much better). I'd say Xbox was the worst. Too few games I liked coupled with a weird ass brick controller.

OG Xbox was Mighty Beastly and obviously the best of the bunch.

PS2 on the other hand sucked canal water being the weakest and most overrated of the bunch. :P

For me, probably the Xbox because the brand already, by design, had a lot if redundancy with my pc. That being said, it was much more distinct than the current x1 line and was a great system. I wouldn't knock it except for its crap drive door and paid online. Spent many happy hours on mine

Haven't turned on a GameCube in years. Heard there are hdmi adapters now, though.

They were all good systems. Xbox was a bit redundant if you had a gaming PC, but it had good hardware and graphics for the time and Halo CE was a legit 10/10 system seller that I played endlessly with my friends. People hate on the GC, but it was dirt cheap for most of its lifespan and had good exclusives and decent graphics. The PS2 came out much earlier than the other two systems so the graphics were quite a bit worse, but it made up for it with an enormous library of games.

I actually liked all of these systems, and I'm primarily a PC gamer.

Wasn't a big fan of OG Xbox. Controller was too big. Plus I remember them hearing about charging for online play and thinking it was ridiculous.

In retrospect though I wish I had one back then, Halo turned out to be pretty decent.

Lol, PS2 has the greatest library. Only PSX can compete.

In terms of hardware power of the 6th gen consoles, it was this:

1. XBOX

2. GameCube

3. PlayStation 2

4. Dreamcast

false. Overhyped sequels to PSX originals. That's all the PS2 ever was. Hype based on the success of the PSX. If the console was even half as good as everyone made it out to be then it probably would be the best. But it isn't.

Xbox had ninja Gaiden Black.. So it wins by default! ;) All three had awesome games tho, so I'd go not sure.

I don't have a idea cause all three had timesplitters all three had need for speed call of duty medal of honor 007 .... Gc had mariokart ps2 had gran turismo xbox pgr and forza so I could not say any of them we're the worst

I want to say Gamecube because I recon that of the three, it was the least played by everyone. But for me the XBOX was probably the least played console I ever owned so I went with that.

I very much disliked the Gamecube controller. I think the XBox had more great games than it, too. PS2, of course, is GOAT.

And here are the sequels that came to mind, all which either shook up the formula in a big way (GTA, RE) or had atleast one solid entry:

Tekken

From that list the only franchises that regressed on PS2 are Final Fantasy, Tony Hawk, and Tekken. But were still decent games.

Something else that nobody has mentioned is that GC easily aged the best out of the three. That Nintendo polish amirite?

The library is so big with countless exclusives, I don't know any console that even comes close.

Gen 6 was great. I'd always liked video games, but this was the era it became my primary hobby. If I had to pick a worst (or really just least great) it would be the Xbox. Great system but I'm not a huge shooter or wrpg player, and that cuts a lot of it's best exclusives. Still, it generally had the best versions of multi-plat games, and Crimson Skies is probably my favorite flight combat game of all time.
