[QUOTE="Vari3ty"]

I personally think Sony will support the PS3 longer, as they did with the PS2. Microsoft ditched the Xbox once the 360 came out.

monkeysmoke

Seriously go with this because that's what will eventualy happen.

Bc the Xbox and 360 are identical, right???

[QUOTE="loosingENDS"]

[QUOTE="delta3074"]current evidence would support buying a ps3, MS seem to be winding down core exclusive support for the 360 whereas SONY appear to be ramping up there core exclusive support for the Ps3, most exclusives for the 360 next year are kinect, which is great if you are into that sort of thing, i personally am not.delta3074

Actually they have 18 core exclusives in 2012, more than any other year so far

That is not winding down, that is increase tenfold comparing to 2010-2011

also 5 PC/360 only games

kinect games are not what i, or for that matter most people would call 'core' games dude.

But they are still core games, all 18 exclusives on 360 in 2012

I would not call Gears and Uncharted core myself either, actually they are the most casual games i have played, but does not matter what we think, only matters what it is and those are all core games

360 in 2012 is just epic, Fable, Dragons, Ryse, Elysian Tale, Alan Wake and Halo, nothing else comes close imo in core gaming

As will the 360, provided you keep taking your console back to MS for RROD repairs :P On another note, what about 3D? Doing a bit of Wiki'ing, it appears that the PS3 not only has 3 times the amount of stereoscopic games as the 360, but there are 3D photo and social networking apps available on the Playstation Store. Considering that 3D is, supposedly, the future of entertainment and that the PS3 seems to have more support for it, then doesn't it make sense to say that the PS3 will outlive the 360?

I'm all about the 360, but the above quote is the best answer. PS2 games came out awhile after the new systems came out. I gave Sony huge respect for that.

I agree..while I own all 3 systems I perfer the 360 but MS did seem to drop the xbox when 360 launched. Meanwhile I think I still could buy new releases on the PS2 last year. (maybe not exactly last year but definately not long ago)

The people who are saying MS will drop 360 obviously don't understand business. With that said Ps3 will prob still last a bit longer.

RROD is a thing of the past dude, the 360 slim is incredibly reliable and consumes less power and gives out less heat than the ps3 slim.

Tell that to my 4 360's I've had over the last 4 years. Thank God I didn't have to pay for the new ones.

Ps3 will live longer because unlike M$, they actually put TLC into their products.

Based on past history I'd say the PS3. Rumors seem to point to the new MS console hitting before the PS4, and last gen the Xbox was dropped like a bad habit the moment the 360 hit the market. The PS2 was still supported for years after the PS3 came out.

if they make sure that the live system and xboxlive with everyones data and game scores and friends list migrates with them to the upgrade and the system is backwards compatible , which i dont see being a problem.. except they neeed to try to find some new disc like bluray or microsoft own tech that can hold more info then the current disc, as games already need more disc space and the 2-3 dvds in box sucks,,

so if they keep the 360 live and migrate it to the new 720 and what ever disc they use the lazer or reader can read old xbox 360 disc and what ever there gonna use on the next one,,,,,i just figure the next one will be better gpu , cpu and graffix components

basically a soaped up 360 with all kinds of junk for people to hook there smart funs and watch tv and twitter and yaddda yadda yadda net flix and ways to pump you for downloads for $$$$$$

They still sell PS2's even today.

They will be selling PS3's for years even after the PS4 hits.

Xbox will probably have more exclusives to enjoy next year, but i think history shows that the PS3 will live longer as sony will continue to support it well into the next gen as they did with the PS2

Rumors are one thing, but in reality MS has not even hinted on 720, while Sony has confirmed they are working full force on PS4

So, in reality and outside rumors and forums, PS4 has a bigger chance to come out first

Xbox will probably have more exclusives to enjoy next year, but i think history shows that the PS3 will live longer as sony will continue to support it well into the next gen as they did with the PS2

taterfrickintot

Sony supported PS2 because of the 140.000.000 users, made sense to sell games to such a user base even with PS3 around

Now both systems have huge sales and install base, so probably there will be games for both a few years after the next ones release

Lol, Sony has always made their consoles for the long haul. Life cycle of the PS1: 1995-2003 or so. Life cycle of PS2: 2000-2010 or so. We're bound to see the PS3 live well into 2014 or so.

sony has already said the ps3 will last a minimum of 10 years, were only half way done folks ;). microsoft however, due to the fact that they can already barely keep up in terms of devs and exclusives, so as soon as the nextbox hits, thats it folks, all 1 or 2 resources are not going to be put on the lastbox, it will be on the nextbox.

The PS3 acts a makeshift Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray player so it can be used for a long time

As far as I know Sony supports their consoles for about 10 years each, I wonder if M$ supported their original xbox for as much...

how can they support it, they can barely produce quality exclusives as is, let alone with another system in the picture.

None of the consoles can boast many exclusives, however I'd imagine the PS3 would last longer as it is also the BR player in a lot of homes.

But if it was so, they would have stoped from this generation, why would anyone wait to do it ?

I think even more will jump in the new Live on 720 than ever before

I think both pretty much the same,it really depends on when they are going to release there next gen consoles because as soo nas that happens all the 1st party titles die out on that platform and so does 3rd party titles pretty quickly.

see thats what i dont expect, i expect the next xbox live will be the same network and the 720 should be able to play 360 disc and play on the same network as people still on 360 but not vise versa

if they make a new system that i cant throw in my streetfighter 4and have all its dlc run on it or gears of wars or anything, it should becuase i dont see the next systems being huge improvements as much as most think.....i think it will be made of like last years tech at reasonable prices to piece the machines together, but should not make 360 games obsoulet on the new system

Unless they shoot for a 100$ system, there is zero reason not to have high end PC parts of 2013 in the 720, these OEM parts and after deals would cost them less and they could easilly make a 300$ system with them, which would easilly rival WiiU

360 was more expensive because they went all out and used alien tech for its time, PC did not get unified shaders until months after 360 release
