This is for JRPG fans :) Check out this video of the gameplay and fighting.

It's hard to tell how much you actually control but it doesn't look like anything before. It looks like it builds upon what SE implemented in FFXII, in the real time system. Whether you liked FFXII ****or not (I liked it) it was the first of it's kind so theres plenty of room for improvement. So this gen I think we will see advancements in the JRPG genre from games like White Knight and FFXIII. And it doesn't hurt that Square and Level-5 are great developers! :) thoughts?

Seems to be going the right way, far better than FF12 for me so far, and hopefully gets even better

But it is a bit unknown yet how it plays, until we do get our hands on it to make sure the system is fluid enough, and not cumersome like FF12 system

Its probably more accurate to say its a build off of Level 5 general battle systems and not anything square had to do with it.

Gotta remember Level 5 has been doing RTB systems in its rpgs for a long time.

For the first time in history, thats actually a JRPG that looked half decent imho. Although if I find out that the main protagonist kid is an ancient hero that lost his memory or that he alone is the key to the worlds survival but doesn't know it/beleive it I'm going to throw something.

Personally I'm excited. Lost Odyssey was a good experience but I am always excited for new things the genre could bring and White Knight looks cool, i like the art style and it looks to have an innovative battle system

Figured as much but we don't have much else to base off of. And the good thing is they are trying to make strides from classic turn based battles

But seriously, you're right its getting pretty boring, but then again they already have the cliche knight whose fallen from grace and needs to reclaim his honour.

You mis understand me, ive got alot of JRPGs but you cant have the same basic character templates every single time, there needs to be some greater variation. IMO that's the only area where JRPGs are occasionally let down which is a shame because there happy to take more risks with game play.

I do remember seeing the old video. But reflecting on it, is the battle system really different to what we've seen? Or does the way the action plays out on screen differ but the underlying concept is the same? If it's the latter than that is simply the regular evolution that any genre should expect (even one as stubborn as JRPG's should have been evolving).

Its basically the same as Final Fantasy 12 ... only perhaps there will be more animations in between, and more enphasis on which side you attack from.

I dont for a second believe it will be like that trailer ... unless every fight is very very linear.

A video showing an unfinished game killed the hype for you?

Yeah, just like it did for Too Human and Lair.

There are some things that you can tell won't work just by watching a video. When a game fails to match up with what was initially promised, and when the company starts to hype features that aren't just not being demonstrated, but contradicted in their demos, something's wrong. Not saying that this describes WKS, but the TGS videos of WKS definitely started to move in that direction.

Core mechanics are rather easy to determine from a video, and it's also easy to imagine how much fun you'd have playing a game with those mechanics. It's not enough for a full evaluation of the game, of course, but it IS enough to decide whether to get hyped up or not. From the TGS videos, WKS just isn't doing it for me anymore.

This is Level -5 we are talking about.

The developers who absolutley knows their battle systems. Look at the games the made-

Rouge Galaxy

Dark Cloud -2

Jeanne D'Arc.

Im more worried about the story since that is their weak points.

What? In what way? So far it looks no better than FFXII. Actually,FFXII probably has a head up on it, since FFXII actually seems to blend elements of real-time and turn-based RPG gameplay successfully to make a game greater than the sum of its parts, while WKS seems to use a contrived "hit the button at the right time" timing system.

But their movement and animations looks solidly good!

Im sure they are going to add other battle systems in there, seeing as how the game is far from finished.

Animation =/= gameplay. Assassin's Creed had great animation, but the gameplay royally sucked.

And I think you're being overly optimistic. Usually, once games enter the phase where demos can be made, major features stop being added. Actually, most of the time, features are stripped away as developers realize how difficult and costly they are to implement. Being "far from finished" only means "far from polished." The game is as complete now as it will be in a year's time in terms of features.
