absolutly, and certainly more satisfying than source
grab a few friends online, hop onto mIRC, and get some scrims goin, just never gets old
never heard of it to be honest i only know CS:Smurat8New to the series eh? The previous Counter Strike were much better. I preffer their hit detection and some aspects. But imo 1.5 was the best. It was a bit unfinished, but it gave me the best moments and the most accurrate teamwrok tactics i've deployed in any FPS.
1.5 was better. Prove me wrong. Source is worse. Xbox one was fun, but got old fast. Half Life: Deathmatch was best. But 1.6 had THE funnest mod to date (zombie mod)itzagirYou know they have a CS:S zombie mod, right?

And i find way more zombie servers in 1.6 . But both >>>> Zombie Panic Source...That one is just.. ugh..
I can't go back to 1.6 CSS all the way for me. The ugly graphics and lack of physics make me want to cry. Really just about everything technically is better in CSS.
I actually enjoyed 1.5 more then 1.6 but thats just me.
but actually i've had some of the best gaming experiences ever playing CSS since 04. most of that time @ moongamer the server i used to spend all my time on. Good times, good times.

Yeeea-Well, it's Source, because it's made using Source Engine. But for example, the next CS is said to be called CS"2". I really don't know about that. Valve picked it up, it was originally a Half Life 1 mod.

The hit boxes and damage adjustements of CS Source killed it for me. It became more noob friendly. As if 1.6 didn't do that a bit already. I've seen noobs run full craze with an MP5 and score random headshots due to the randomness of recoil.Still the best? I don't know but it's deffinitely one of the best. I like Source as well, gives the game a fresh look.
Man I really want a Counterstrike 2 :(

Me too, can't wait :( I hope they get it right, and use CS1.5 hitboxes with some more balance and CS1.6 tactics. And better graphics and physics, of course :D!CS 1.6 is still the best FPS game to date.

Wow that's a bold statement I feel obliged to disagree with.
im surprised L4D is popular i played it and i can honestly say as a FPS and a fan of people vs zombie bots i hate that game the mini game from CoD5 is bettermurat8I feel the call of duty 5 zombie mode is repetitive and extremely boring compared to l4d, difference in opinion I suppose.
I agree. To me, CS 1.6 is currently the best online FPS and counter-strike in general has been the best since its first release as a mod back in 1999.
10 years on the the game is still going strong... that's incredibly impressive imo.
I've put so many hours into CS it's crazy haha. I will love it til the end!
Agreed. 1.6 is one of the best shooters ever made. People still play it religiously.
Edit: Btw I was looking through all my programs to uninstall something and figured out 1.6 is freaking 15mb..... yes 15mb. Could hardly believe it myself.
This morning I played CS 1.6 lan in the computer lab at school... during gym gym class. It's the best lan experience you can get even roughly 10 years later. Only graphics "hores" can hate this game.
I still like to sit an think back on all the good times I had when counter-strike was first released as a mod. Back when you used to download it using the Half-life updater. Awesome times, hard to believe its still going strong 10 years later

This. Source was an abomination to the original CS imo.
I used to play CS 1.6 non-stop for a few years, but after nearly a decade it's lost it's touch with me.

CSS is slower and clunkier than 1.6 movement and gun shooting wise. It also has far poorer hit detection and it's much easier to make headshots. It's not a bad game at all, but just to make clear, it's for n00bs.
TF2, pardon my language, rapes it. Now I used to be a dedicated CS 1.6 player taking part in CAL matches (great times) but now those times are done, and CS 1.6 has now become incredibly dated and basically a shadow of its former glory. The game has been around for a while though so it's no surprise that it would become bland after almost 4 years of playing it. I love 1.6 as much as the next guy, but you have to face the fact and understand that it's not like how it used to be.Kicker_of_CansWell that's a given. When CS was brand new, holy **** that was videogame sex. I had N64/PS2 back then and this friend of mine would not shut up about Counter-Strike and I was like shut up, just play GoldenEye. He then took me to the gaming LAN cafe where he'd play it and my mouth just dropped on the floor. The game was freaking perfect, from the crisp amazing sounds (you had never heard guns sound so real before), to its excellent graphics, its gameplay and antics (the buying formula was a first from killing and you just never wanted to stop). To me, the game was the perfect blend of realism and arcade. After playing it, no other game would be the same, in fact every other game was just a game while Counter-Strike was Counter-Strike. Ah man, good times.

Keep in mind, in no way am I saying CS:S is better than 1.6. CS1.6 has a lot of problems. CS 1.3 was probably my favorite version. There were problems such as the headbox being too large, headbox being skewed when crouching with awp, and the notorious crouching/cockced HE bug that put your hitbox bellow ground, but over all, the game was in a better state then. First bullet accuracy was about double, recoil spread wasn't nearly as bad. I absolutely loathe hitstun (basically if you get shot, your aim gets knocked off in CS1.6). Combine hitstun, with rampant crouch walking, reduced rifle accuracy, increased bullet spread, and an oversized left arm hitbox that covers half the headbox and you have CS in it's current state. The game just doesn't reward accuracy like it used to. Crouch walking is simply a retarded mechanic. You literally can't compensate for someone's leg hit boxes popping up into the chest and then lagging back down to the ground. I understand it makes entry shots easier.... but so did having more accurate rifles in 1.3. Eh, whatever.
