Poll Who betrayed PC gaming the most? (103 votes)

Id Software 1%
Crytek 24%
CD Projekt 7%
Microsoft 51%
Bethesda 4%
Other 13%

PC developers have screwed PC gaming over many times for big console bucks. Some, such as Crytek, like that guy promised a ton of shit by thems witches, have ended up in the gutter.

Of the many developers who have abandoned or screwed over the beloved and true platform, who is most baddest?

Microsoft Flight Simulator - M$ laid off team

Age of Empires - M$ laid off team

Fable / Black & White - M$ laid off team

M$ started charging money for Solitaire/MineSweeper in Windows 10 which used to be free for casual PC gamers.

I would say Valve but they just betrayed gamers in general, not just PC gamers.

other than that, Crytek. I generally have no problems with PC games getting ported to consoles, but the way they went from PC-focused to console-focused was particularly douchey.

It's very perturbing and distressing to see several bias users imply that I myself abandoned the platform.

Increasingly the new generation of PC gamers simply take pride in a console port with graphics - for all intents and purposes, you are a console gamer.

By contrast, even in the face of adversity, a puritan discipline to maintaining an unblemished purity has been strenuously enforced.

Real PC gamers are far and few between.

Nvidia, for designing their APIs specifically to create performance issues on their rivals hardware, end result though is that it seems to effect functionality of many PC users regardless of their hardware configuration.

Microsoft has done nothing to harm PC gaming really, they haven't made PC gaming a closed system despite people saying otherwise. They've given people an OS and DirectX and the rest is up to the developers/publishers.

Blizzard has been catering to casuals way too much lately..

Diablo 3 has no depth compared to Diablo 2 (those people played for years some still even play)

Hearthstone is a very easy card game not much depth.

Starcraft 2 (not as competitive as original, lots of stuff felt crappier music was total garbage didn't have heart and soul of the first game)

WoW (They made raiding too easy and casual all the hardcore players left and quit the game and they said they didn't care and continued dumbing it down more as everyone kept leaving)

They essentially turn all their franchises into login for 30 mins do a daily quest and logout PC gamers are fed up with them. I play games who cater to hardcore players not just a casual who logs in for 30 minutes.

Exactly. A lot of console refugees came to pc from the end of the ps360 era, and treat the personal computer as a console that nets them better graphics and thats it. They sit their ass on the chouch, use controllers exclusively and only play console ports. PC gaming was about PC games for all its life until this same ps360 era began. Different, complex games, designed for mouse and keyboard, for closer monitor viewing and very different from console games. It's become this bland homogenized market with every game using the same basic design and being made so it can be played on every platform under the sun.

While I agree that there are a lot of new gamers on PC that haven't experienced what the platform truly offers in terms of games, and mostly they only play blockbuster Console multiplats on higher settings than Consoles but that doesn't change the fact that there are still plenty of PC developers that develop games exclusively for PCs that are made for Mouse Keyboard/Monitor setup. The only genre that really died on PC last gen was Single Player FPS but now slowly it's coming back.

Good lord. I don't know when this breed of PC gamers came into existence but controllers have been part of PC gaming eons ago. This mouse and keyboard stupidity that is rampant on the internet is silly. Games are games. PC can support any game. There is no such thing as a "PC" game or a "Console" game. A game having controller support does not make it a console game but a game. A game having keyboard and mouse support does not make it a PC game but just another game. Geeeesh.

I know controllers were part of PC gaming but First Person Shooters on PCs were made for Keyboard Mouse/Monitor setup primarily. Which is the reason why they played faster than Console shooters if they are arcady or are more complex if they are realistic like ArmA 3 for example.

Most shooters these days are made for Consoles primarily. Which means levels and AI are tuned so they can work well with the Controller, since aiming is not as good as you are using the mouse (Show me a Console game that plays like Quake). Just go and take a look at Console version of Counter Strike and compare it to the PC version.

User interface is also designed for TVs in Console FPS games, which means it's too big when you are sitting close to your monitor and sometimes Field of View is also messed up. Just compare Unreal Tournament 3, which was made with Consoles in mind with Unreal Tournament 2004, which was made with PCs in mind and you'll see the difference.

Not saying games shouldn't support Controller on PC, just saying that there weren't enough SP FPS on PC last gen that took advantage of Mouse Keyboard and we were missing those games for quite some time.

Fair enough.

PC gamers have become rather toxic to other gamers and too developers. I would not be surprised if this played a role in lack of dedication to PC gaming. I am still trying to understand the reason for the mass exodus of PC developers last gen.

I think it's because of popularity of COD. Games like that work well on all platforms and are also very popular. A lot of developers tried to chase that money last gen and destroyed their franchises in the process.

Look at Crysis 1, and then at Crysis 2. Look at FEAR, then look at FEAR 3. Hell even some of the strategy games like XCom and Commandos were turned into FPS to make COD audience happy. Tripwire (developers of Killing Floor series) agree that COD changed FPS genre (for better or worse).

Only now we are seeing resurgence of games like Unreal Tournament, Inner Chains, System Shock 3, Blackroom etc,,, games that don't play like modern military shooters like COD.

The only time I ever felt betrayed on PC was when i bought Dead or Alive Last Round on steam. I was expecting a port of the console version of the game so that I would be able to play with friends in lobby matches.

This version however didn't contain any of the extra stages from the console version and didn't have the ability to do lobby matches which made no sense to me as lobby matches were already coded in every single other version of the game.

As a long time fan of the Dead or Alive series, I felt heavily betrayed by Team Ninja (Koei Tecmo). I know they didn't promise these things necessarily but I have no idea why we wouldn't at least receive lobby matches which you'd think is a basic requirement for modern fighting games. That's just my mini rant. I voted for "Other" by the way.

I really personally feel betrayal is mainly if a company releases a game on multiple platforms but basically hinders the PC version of their game even though the PC version in theory should actually be able to handle the most features out of any version mainly just to make the popular console versions more appealing. Like in this instance for example, the PS4 and Xbox One versions having extra stages while the PC version doesn't.

Crytek is the only one I'm upset about because their games lost so much quality after switching development to multiplats. They went from being better than everyone else at making FPS to being average at best, and video games aren't a medium where average is a good thing.
