Who really cares about any next gen DVD format when you can download HD content to your x360 and in the future your PC. The whole thing with discs is an obvious ploy by the entertainment industry to hold on to a past in which their vast infrastructure in set up for. Meanwhile Technology moves apace and by the time the general public knows what Blu-Ray/HD DVD is these same companies will have gotten their act together and embraced the online revolution. Rather than run in terror and bury their heads in the sand they could be maximising download profit and create an eco-system where everyone wins. Because lets face it people; Online aint going anywhere!!elloco81dude.... only fanboys care and stop acting as if HD content distribution on you 360 and pc is the future.

That means having it in my possession. Yes, I could have it on a hard drive but what if it gets full or what if it gets erased???

I like having a hard copy so if my HDD crashes I am not screwed out of my movie collection. I am also not a huge computer person so my Computer setup is hardly ideal for movie watching but since I am a movie buff I have my PS3 hooked up to my Samsung 40 inch HDTV 1080p with surround sound. Not every has broadband as well and very few people wanna wait for a low quality movie to download on their computer. Downloading will only hurt blockbuster and netflix, not the movie industry. There are still a ton of people who like to collect movies (like me) and buy the speacial edition in the speacial case and display their collection in their living room so when guests come over you can say pick a movie to watch as opposed to people crammed in front of a computer. Downloading movies will never be the future of movie watching, just movie renting.
When I can hardly afford games, how am I going to afford movies?foxhound_foxIf you can hardly afford games, you shouldn't have purchased a next-gen console. You're wasting the technology.

You're wasting the technology. Seriously, think before you post dribble. Its not dribble. I truely think you're wasting your time on a next-gen console if you don;t have an HDTV. And if you say you can hardly afford games, you cannot afford a HDTV.
I guess one major question comes to mind; Can streaming video have the same quality as blu-ray or HD-DVD? As it stands right now, I wouldn;t think so. Plus, What if servers get bogged down? Will I have to wait for my movie to buffer during a huge fight scene? Not cool.dubvisionsMovies in 720p will stream just fine from your computer to your 360 wirelessly. There is no need to store any content that could otherwise be streamed to the GAMING CONSOLE. Just some perspective people.

Just some perspective people. You didn't answer my question. Is it the same quality. In know its 720p, but is that without any glitches, the best possible audio? What about 1080p? PS3 users might want that. What about uncompressed audio that makes very large file sizes?
also what happens when y ou paid for a movie and dled it. watch it a couple times, 6months later the file becomes corrupted? i want a hard copy, at least i have control what i do that disc, either i scratch it, use it as a frisbee i still have control of the outcome. as for files that get corrupted i have no control over that. alfy13Then get it on dvd for 9.99 at Best Buy. Blu-ray and HD DVD are superfluous right now as far as most people are concerned.

That's why all your HD broadcasts are in 720p. Audio is all part of the streamed package. Keeping media on your console (like a movie collection) is totally bogus.

I have 17 Bluray movies and 6 HD-DVD movies. On average that would take up over 500GB of space if I was to download and store them over the internet. I plan to buy double that number for the rest of this year. Sorry, but I don't want to get a 1 TB HDD just for one year's worth of movies. I doubt many others will either.ramey70I definitely agree. Not to mention the portability that discs afford you.

I see nothing wrong with owning hard copies of movies. My problems lie with people who insist on downloading and keeping content on their gaming console. It's the worst idea in the entire world. If you're going to engage in digital media downloads, the logical thing is to do it on your computer. Then stream whatever you want to the TV through the console. If you're afraid of losing your data, make sure to back it up. Then put that backup in a cool closet somewhere.
