The beggining can be boring but it's the end game that is fun. I can understand why you don't like them as it takes months of pointless grinding before you reach end game.

I used to be addict to them for several years. I just started again and quit a few months ago due to some update. My life is much better now though since quitting MMORPGs have given me 3+ hours of extra time. :)

i cant get out of MMORPGs... everytime i play an MMO i always ended up spending 100% of my time playing, limiting my sleep to be able to play more etc.

when i play an MMO i get massively addicted pretty instantly.

^ this. I actually own most of the MMORPGs around, waiting for one I can really get into. Up to now, only Ragnarok and Guild Wars managed to get me in for more than a few weeks/months :S

i've played MMO's for practically all of my gaming life, I remember playing EQ when I was like 10 years old and recall being so captivated by the amount of depth and exploration that was available to me, and in retrospective, it had one of the best communities of players I had ever played with. been hooked on them ever since,

played Star Wars galaxies since it came out all the way into they ruined it with the leveling system (SOE failed epicly), then I moved on to WoW, for about 4 years on and off.

I have spent SO MUCH MONEY on mmo's but I really don't regret it at all, sure I could have spent my time doing other things, but they were still fun and unlike any other gaming experience imo.

Here's hoping to continue my MMO carreer with The old republic.

Most MMOs leave a bad taste after a few hours. WoW was one of the few that didn't. It was such an amazing game back when I started. First character was a Night Elf Druid & being thrown into Azeroth not knowing much was awesome. Even after 4 years of playing I always missed the feeling of being lost & not knowing where everything was. The world was so epic & awesome to explore. Haven't played for a year now but when I remember the early days I feel like getting back into it, but then I remember what it's become & I come back to my senses.

With that said, I'd give up my social life once again if I could go back to the early days of WoW.

yeah vanilla WoW before any of the expansions was one of the best gaming experiences ever, people played for fun and not to suck up to elitist guilds, or worry about balancing in the next patch, or gearing up gearing up.

when the deadmines was a hard instance to beat, good times.

Getting into mmos, a genre that truly is not for everyone, is really about finding the right one. Bad impression in your first contact with mmos will have a great effect on how you perceive them later. So when starting your mmo jurney dont ever play f2p games first. Even if the fans of the game claim its just like WoW but its free (Runes of Magic) it is really not. Its a great compliment to RoM but doesnt make the game anything like WoW. For example WoW=polish. A constant stream of updates has made the game the most polished experiance in the genre. F2P games always have problems with this aspect. To me they also seem to have a tiny array of things that bother, that in time become annoying and bring down the experiance. These can be elements of the ui, animations, movement. Seeing at the first two games listed I am not surprised that you did not find your mmo. EVE is insanely complex and a niche game becouse of it. It is a game you need to invest a ton of time in to be succesful. I would not say its as bad as lets say Lineage 2 which basically ask you to play for weeks to get to the "good stuff." Champions...was and still is a missed opportunity. A good superhero mmo although with alot of bland instances is City of Heroes. Champions is a stripped down version of that. Guild Wars to me is not an mmo at all=) Its a coop rpg. A good one though.

I always suggest that people try WoW first becouse like I said it is the most polished mmo and it has pretty much all elements of mmos. WoW does nothing great, but does everything well enough is what I say. Also another mmo I could recommend to get a taste for some more complex gameplay is Fallen Earth. A hard game with a great crafting system that is made very accesible by the wonderful community and help channel in the game chat that has gms and a group of volunteers answering all question posed by players.

vanilla wow was awesome.

I just hate how blizzard releases expansions... making all my epics outclassed by green items? It pretty much ruins progression knowing that no matter how much time you spend working to get items, they are gonna all be worthless once the next expansion rolls around. After hitting the level cap in TBC i just stopped playing because it removed my incentive to farm for gear that was going to be worthless.

I much preferred everquest's expansion style... where you still needed to get alot of the old raid items to be able to raid the new expansion tiers.

I guess you need to play with friends from the get go.

I've played a few on and off. In the end I always leave since the constant messing about with gameplay and characters just gets boorishly complicated. For example WoW Started with I think 9 classes and level 60 skill. Soon it will be 10 Classes and 85 skill point, plus there's extra racials to think about.

Keeping up to date with which class/build combo works with or defeats class combo X, and constantly updating your frikken "Mods", dps spreadsheets gets boring. I also played Age of Conan, they totally revamped my char. It has more of twich gameplay, so I had to re-train my muscle memory and get a new program to bind my mouse buttons. In the end, you realize there's newer more interesting games come out, that actually have a you know a story - and your these newer games are probably more worth your time.

Something about MMORPGs that I just can't stand. I need to spend most of my time to finish quests and I have other games to play, MMORPGs are just boring and time consuming. And I got crappy not so fast internet and mid-range rig.

I played Ultima online for about 5 years, and then slowly weaned myself onto FFXI then played that for the next 5 years, and now "after my account got hacked I quit" I play FFXIV and I'm loving it so far. It's all about the community I tried Wow and the artsyle coupled with the terrible community "People spouting nonsense in the chanels" I couldn't wrap myself around it.

I find it odd that the TC has a Reach sig.

My guess would be that he pays for Live and plays 3-4 hours a day online for credits to buy items and will never have a way to "finish" the online play.

Remind you of anything?

BTW You can level with Eve with out even playing more then 10 min a day. :P

i quite enjoyed guild wars...but that was more of a single/co-op game that was online. not your traditional MMORPG at all (most dont even consider it an MMORPG....even the devs). lookin forward to GW2. as for everquest/WOW type MMOs.....not really no.

i love MMORPGs, but recently i only play them if they aren't just a boring grind. they need to feel like the "action" from "action-RPG" is more than just left-clicking and seeing damage. they have to look good. no, great. they have to give you interesting things to do. they have to keep you entertained whenever you want. they have to let you look like you want to. these are some of the factors that attract me in an MMORPG. which is why i'm so hyped for guild wars 2.

I'm not interested in any MMOs until free-to-play black prophecy (scifi mmo) comes out next month. been following it for the last 3 years and tried at least 3 times to get into the closed beta subscription. honestly the best looking MMO to come out in years:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d615RVe5enU

other than that, no other mmo's really interest me :X altho I did have a top tier raiding mage from the start of WoW (MC + BWL + ZG etc) until the burning cursade (quit after we killed kil'jaden in sunwell). after all my raiding gear didn't mean crap for a 2nd time I gave up and decided it was nothing but a time sink.

I do pays for Live and play 3-4 hours a day, but I also own a PS3 and PC and I like them all equally. PCs are for RTS and Indies and PS3 are for RPGs and Fighting, Xbox are forFPS/TPS and Racing. I just can't stand MMORPGs, it take soo much time to get good at and it's so confusing.

Mmorpg's are like really good books, they start out slow and boring and its a paint to get though that part, but after a while it becomes very enjoyable.

My problem is that I get to the end game stuff and then sit there waiting for content to be released. It's quite boring to pay to wait for content. Guild Wars got rid of the paying as have a few others lately, but not the waiting. Most MMO PvP is also meh, so that doesn't help much.

Its not the actual game thats complex, its understanding how everything works and knowing how to play it...

If you think you're going to join a game (lets say WoW) and PVP (Arenas) you are out of your mind...you need some serious keyboard skill, macros to really be ANY good and get past 2000. If you mean leveling up, any dumb @#$# can level up....but ive met people who can heal their asses off, or tank better than others...it really does take SKILL, just like any game thats involves thinking and using your brain.

WoW arena is some of the most serious stuff in gaming, you literally need to spend hours researching techniques and even longer executing properly with your team. now that I look back at it, WoW arena probably got me more angry than any other gaming prospect, ever

As a mage, rogues in world pvp make me more angry than arena. Such a cheap class imo.

I've played some MMO trials. I actually played a lot of WOW without subscribing, but once I realized I couldn't really have any fun soloing I just quit. I find the typical WOW battle system to be horrendously boring anyway. It's like playing an RTS with one unit (I guess the point is to have a guild or whatever.)
