Who else thinks BioShock 2 will be a huge flop? I know I do.

Harharhar, you're a funny man!

:P

Seriously, though, nah, this looks like a poor clone of the original with a Big Daddy mod.

Hey man can't judge till you go through it. But with critically acclaimed games. You really think this will flop?

You're back!

Liked the first game(easy 8.5 or 9.0 in my opinion) but this game has had a tough time selling itself to me. I hated the concept for this game since they showed it in gameinformer.

I just watched the first 5 minutes...

http://www.gametrailers.com/user-movie/bioshock-2-first-5-minutes/336808?playlist=featured

I don't like to watch the beginning of games, especially after how awesome the first was, but I seriously needed some convincing with this one. I heard it's not quite on par with the opening of the original, so I didn't feel too dirty. And boy, they were right.

You're not missing much if you don't watch it. A crappy beginning and a game that feels like a bad version of the prior game. It just seems so... meh.

BioShockOwnz

I'm pretty sure we talked about Bio 2 a year or longer ago...it took awhile, but it seems you now agree with what I was saying back then. Maybe it wasn't you, but it was a long time ago. What I do remember is that I was the only one on the SW board expressing worry for the game. It seems my worries have been somewhat legitimate...of course, I'm still going to wait for the game before I make any bold proclamations.

Let me be clear, I only have been worried based on what we know about the game, different team, refusal to help, delay's, etc. It still can shape up nicely though.

I remember a horde of users all on my butt about my worry for Bio 2, so this isn't good from where I'm sitting.
I actually want the game to be fantastic...at least it's not my username.:P

I would wait though to say much until it's out, since 5 mins of gameplay from an unfinished game isn't the best way to determine the games' future.

Yeah, I could see it flopping. I hope not because I loved BioShock, but something about the sequel screams mediocre.

teh_shogun

Yeah, a huge BioShock fan trolling the second one and wanting it to fail... errr, no. :| It just doesn't look nearly as good the more I see of it.

Btw, I remember your gamertag, didn't you used to be 'LeGoofyGoober' on Gamespot? :) Just wondering.

I'm...well, really I'm pretty mixed on this one. Now that Rapture has lost some of its mystique, I have to wonder what 2K is doing this time around to make Bioshock 2 as compelling as the original. I have to be 100% honest and say that I'm not totally confident that they're capable of making a great game that relies on the story as its selling point; Bioshock was awesome and sold well because it was dripping with atmosphere. Some all-new locations (and maybe a less linear path; let me explore a little bit of Rapture!) drenched with the same atmosphere will be enough to compel me to buy Bioshock 2, but it simply won't be enough to make it as great as the original.

I'm still a little lost on everyone judging the game by this video. This isn't even five minutes of gameplay, it's 1:30 of the intro and loading screens, with 3:16 of what looks like tension building.

I can understand some of the comments if you simply didn't enjoy the first game, but this isn't putting me off at all.

While I understand the similarities between Bioshock and System Shock 2, it's probably time to stop beating this drum. It's been over a decade since SS2 was released, most gamers don't remember SS or SS2 at all.

Similar or not, I still enjoyed the first and will probably enjoy the second just as much if not more.

It is a rather weak opening if that's the whole opening (not missing an opening Cutscene or something like that). I'm far from saying it will flop, but that wasn't a strong showing.

Ratatouille

Toy story 2

Toy story 1

You know what those films have in common? Bad trailers.

Yet they turned out great. So really just shut up and wait till the game comes out and decide for yourself

Please don't get me wrong either. I understand what you're saying. The joke was that Bioshock was a remake of SS2, right down to the crappy ending, it's just that it got out of hand. If I saw one more thread comparing the two I thought I was going to throw up.

For me, Bioshock's atmosphere was enough to take me away from the SS2 mindset, and I really enjoyed it as a result. I'm not too worried about this one taking a dive either. A lot of the new twists should prove interesting once we see how it all plays out.

An older video shows the same scene, and when the BD awakes Tenenbaum contacts him. I'm also sure he called that Little Sister from her lair.

So this was a crap video that skipped some pretty important parts.

I hated the first Bioshock but I think Bioshock 2 looks better than the original. I don't think it'll get AAA, but standards rise with years and B2 doesn't do much new.

It's got a forced multiplayer mode. That says enough about how this one was made with a "whats trendy" check list.

I'm not so sure this is the case. Maybe it is, I haven't played it. But they made the actual mode a part of the game's story lore, which I find to be rather creative. But we'll see. I'll give it a rent and see how the MP actually is before making any more judgement on it.

Define "forced multiplayer."

As long as it doesn't cut into the campaign, I don't see how adding multiplayer to the game is a bad thing.

A rent at best, i can tell by the trophy list that they focused more on MP. Im so sick of dervs thinking every game needs MP. They need to focus more on SP campaigns, this game dose not need nor should have MP.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I think this is beating a dead horse. People know and accept the comparisons between the two games; some gamers will love Bioshock/Bioshock 2 just the same, and others will shun the game entirely on the grounds that it's "System Shock 2 Light". I think that it's ridiculous to shun a game because it took an earlier game and watered it down a bit to appeal to the more mainstream crowd. I'm not going to go so far as to say anyone should advocate a sell-out, but sometimes you just have to go with the flow and try to enjoy things for what they are and not what they aren't. (PS: I quoted Salt_The_Fries only as an example of the argument in question; I understand from other posts that Salt_The_Fries enjoyed Bioshock. I wanted to address the issue, but I didn't want to appear to anyone - especially the person whom I quoted - as someone who didn't read posts before posting myself.)

I really liked the first one, but I'm just not feeling this sequel. It just looks like a carbon copy, and that's not really what I wanted to see. Early information pointed torwards something much more interesting than "you're back in Rapture, but as a Big Daddy this time". That intro was incredibly uninspired too. No buildup, no story details to wet the player's interest, you're just dumped into Rapture and left to get on with it. Lame.

Jandurin

forced multiplayer? WTH does that mean?

I am assuming he means that the multiplayer is being "forced" by the developers... as in; they are applying it to a game in which the style probably wont gell to competetive multiplayer, or the multiplayer its self is just an afterthought by the developers who are making it in an attempt to garner higher sales, or both, hence the "check list" comment.

Maybe he meant something else but that was the impression I got.
