Who hates the 360, but loves the games?

I thought a poll on this might be telling. I have yet to buy a 360, but I will before the year is out, likely, simply because MS has done a great job getting great games on their machine, and more are on the way. In fact, I think it will be a long, long time before the other consoles touch the 360s game library. And in the final analysis, it is all about the games, so the 360 is a must buy.

That said, I HATE that it is a must buy, because it blows so much as a console. Here are the reasons:

1. The failure rates are such an unbelievable joke.Everyone I know who bought a 360 has had it break at least once. That is pathetic. I pray the new chips fix this, I really do.

2.DVD on a HD console is a bad idea.Blue Dragon on three discs, and Lost Oddyssey on 4 is just the beginning. I know it isn't a huge deal, but it is annoying. I hate that Sony put blu-ray in as a trojan horse, but MS could have included HD-DVD as a gaming option, much like DVDs became an option vs CDs on the PC. I guess it would be a ditribution annoyance for MS and game makers, but it has worked in the PC realm and I'm not sure why it wouldn't in the console realm, unless you beleive the assumption that console owners are too dumb to know the difference and would buy the wrong version. In any event,all the disc switching is lame. 4 discs?!? Annoying.

3. The peripherals are crazy overpriced. $100 for a $5 wifi dongle? MS nickel and dimes its customers under the label of "choice." ANd don't give me the whole wifi is lame thing--I want it and I don't care about online gaming. I just want to get updates, demos anddownload XBLA games.

All that said, anyone who loves gaming and who doesn't want to play a lot of their games on their PC has to get a 360, because its game library is the best around. I guess MS knows this, so it was a good strategy to focus on software over hardware, but man, the 360 was such a rush job, it annoys me that I can't play all of the great 360 games on other systems. It makes me pine for a unified console platform, which some say will come, but I dont' see that happening anytime soon.

So who feels the same way?

Not true. I love games and I admire the 360s game library.That is why I will have to buy a 360 soon. But I have mixed feeling about the purchase. Honestly, and I know this isn't a fair statement, but if I could play 360 games on the PS3, I'd buy the more expensive PS3 in a heart beat over the less expensive 360. That said, I know that is a fantasy, so I'm going to have to buy a 360, warts and all, to play all of the great games in its library. I just hope the Falcon chipset solves many of the hardware problems. While I'm hoping, I hope they lower the price on their wifi dongle and put an HD-DVD drive in future SKUs to give people the option to buy 360 games on a 1 disc format. I took advantage of this option early and often on the PC as playing multi-cd games became really tedious after awhile. Anyone who says that is lazy is just making excuses. It isn't about me being lazy, it is about it being more convenient to have a game entirely on 1 disc. There is just something aesthetically pleasing about that to me--I hate serialized books as well, and seperate comics when I can get one graphic novel that collects them all. Maybe it is just me on that issue though.

The only thing that irritates me is the fact I'll need to wait until early next year to be guaranteed one with the new chips. Mass Effect is my most anticipated game of my life and I don't wanna wait :(

It seem like KOTOR, except far more expanded on and far more epic in scape. This is certainly a game to highly anticipate imo

I just dont understand how you can hate the 360 but love the games. I thought games define the console most of all.

I have nothing to hate about the xbox.

Had it for about 1 and half years, never had the red rings, never needed to be serviced, easy to use, well designed blade.

Only thing i can think of that has annoyed me was a random freeze while accessing the xbox guide.

you could easy run off a list of reasons to hate the wii and ps3 too, like a lack of quality games, poor online support, nonsense motion contols. doobie1975

This is true, but I don't feel compelled to buy either of the other next gen systems yet--I have such a huge backlog of last gen games to still play through. Only the 360 at this point has reached a crtiical mass in terms of game library to the point where I feel compelled to buy now. And I would have alreadyif the hardware didn't have so many issues. I just feel annoyed that I'm going to be plopping down hundreds of dollars (probably $500 or so for a premium, a wifi dongle and an extra controller) for a system that has such a high chance of crapping out on me, and one where I have to change discs a la PS1. Oh, and one where 3rd party peripherals are wired, or cost more. Just a lot of little hardware issues annoy me about the 360, so I'm venting. I'll still get the darn thing.

Buying the 360 is like going to see a chick flick or going to the mall to shop with a girl. You don't want to do it, but you do it anyway, because of the rewards that come with it.
