I mean in all seriousness I was at odds with Nintendo with the N64 and the same with the Gamecube. When I heard they were coming out with a system that was significantly weaker then the 360/PS3 combined with the motion controller I was like no way this thing is gonna take off.

To me I thought that the Wii would end up even worse off then the Gamecube. I thought that decreasing graphics would further kill 3rd Party Support as games can't be ported to it.

But damn....I was wrong.

No way did I see constant sell outs for a year, surpassing the 360 in a year. Pretty much selling more then the compeittion combined.

Its just insane. Whoever's idea or whoever came up with the concept of the Wii needs to be bowed down to by every Big Wig at Nintendo.

The thing is a monster and it doesn't seem like it can be stopped.

I expected the console to be a success. What gave it away for me was the stampede of gamers who ran to Nintendo's booth when the doors opened up at E3 in 2006.

And I took other things into consideration. The console does offer a gaming experience that you can't get anywhere else, so the interactiveness of the console is a huge selling point.

What really sealed the deal for me though was watching my parents, who have never played video games before, pick up the wiimote and genuinely enjoy themselves. That was exactly a year ago. I knew then that Nintendo had a mega hit on their hands. It's interesting that the Wii's popularity, after launch, kept going up as people discovered what it was all about. Those stories of people breaking their expensive flat panel screens playing the Wii gave the console lots of free publicity. Also, the Wii got plenty of attention through pop-culture outlets like the Colbert Report and Conan O'Brien.

Another thing is, the Wii is definitely the most family-friendly console. The entire family can play a Wii game and have fun doing so. It's also a great party console. For these applications, graphics don't matter at all. It's really more about doing something with other people and the Wii does that better than any other console.

I never thought the wii would sell this much and even thought I am a nintys fan I feel bad for hardcore games, I dont care whant anyone says, nintendo is ditching their hardcore audience for a group of sisies, all their game have gotten even more casual, I even heard SSBB will be slower for the casual audience...WTFamorbis1001

First of all there are more games by Nintendo geared towards the hardcore gamer this year then any other Nintendo console ever made.

Second of all, Smash being slower? Where'd you hear this?

Did I expect that level of success that the Wii is currently enjoying? NO SIR.

Did I expect the Wii to be successful before launch? Somewhat.

When did I notice the tide turning? The moment I found my wife wanting to play the Wii more than I did. I got the Wii the day after it launched. When I popped that sucker on my tv, my wife became an instant junkie. That is when I knew Nintendo was onto something. Anytime you can get non-gaming females hooked on a console you can pretty much call it a wrap. With all that in mind I still didn't expect to see the Wii selling out consistantly for over a year. Congrats to to the big N is in order. No get busy on some forensic type games!!!!!

Curious to see how popular it is a year from now. I still think the majority of systems purchased are not being made by us "traditional" gamers. Is the Wii for real, or still a fad? Over 21000 listings on ebay are really making me wonder. Time will tell, the N64 went against the current grain for it's time too, and it cost Nintendo, so we'll see.

I did because it was the cheapest next gen console on the market.Heil68
I'm curious as to why you thought it would do this well, simply because the GC was the cheapest last gen, and we all know how that turned out.

What's your point? Super Mario Galaxy is out not to mention Metroid Prime 3, Super Paper Mario, Twilight Princess, and Zack & Wiki. If your "cuzin" is not playing these great games it doesn't mean they don't exist.

I'm one of the many who thought this thing would fail. I'm truly amazed at how the Wii continues to sell.

I never thought it would do this well. I just thought that it would do better than the GC by the end of the generation. Nothing like this, though.

first off i never said those game dont exist and neither did i imply they didnt exist........

my point is that after those two game sales are gonna probably decrease, i mean how many AA+ games third party games are out there for the nintendo wii compared to the Xbox 360 or mabye even the ps3

Wii sport sucked me in at the shop, i couldn't wait for more to come... but now what? wii sports is still the best game it has.

Never would've guessed it would do this well, but i never would've imagined Nintendo would do exacltythe same thing as the GC and 64 gens where they released crap all new games and impose game doughts for years at a time. I guarentee after Mario Kart there will be nothing for an entire year.

After seeing their marketing strategy, I thought it was a forgone conclusion.
