Um NO!!! Hard copys are the only way to go when will people realize that DD is not the way to go. With DD you don't truly own the product your just renting and at anytime it can be tooken away.

It's a great feature for the future of home entertainment. But it seems like Microsoft is rushing it soely to put a damper on their bungle with HD DVD. It seems that loss may have cut them deeper than they'd like us to think. so instead of giving in, they try something new. If it works, it sure sounds like an awesome feature. if not though.. then.. well. Either way, Bluray probably isn't going to fall out of popularity yet, considering it has yet to even hit the utter mainstream. maybe by next gen, everyone will have cable/fiber optic/some form of SUPER high bandwith internet with no cap. But until then, there are just too many limitations on downloads to allow that area to expand much.

This thread fails. Majority of the people probably don't have enough bandwidth to handle 1080p streaming even if it could be done. Secondly, to also have lossless audio, I don't see that happening.

this is all good and well as long as we continue to have unlimited internet. but as the trends are showing, many companies are thinking of introducing a bandwidth limit here in the US and that would be an absolute tragedy for online movie streaming. online gaming, not so much, though.

And when you die nothing is going with you. What you own, ends up owning you. And in reference to what Timstuff said, I'm a sucker because I don't collect movies? I collect comics, now unless you have original celluloid copies of those movies, I'm willing to bet my collection is worth more money.

It is. Well, that's not true. But i'll say that anybody who can afford an internet connection that does 1080p streaming with 5.1 sound probably has all three systems... in each Bentley... of every garage... of every house... in every country that they live in. Or they're college kids living on campus and reaping the benefit of their network.

[QUOTE="death919"][QUOTE="Bluray001"] No. All they claimed was 1080p, which is just a resolution. It's pretty clear it's going to be poor quality 1080p with low bitrates.chikenfriedrice

I don't understand this stuff since I don't know alot about the technicals but how can one 1080p look different from another 1080p? I don't understand "higher quality 1080p"

me too

It can have poor frame rates and compressed audio

Meh, I like hard copies. Still, you gotta give them credit. The XBL Marketblace has a greater selection of movies than the PS Store. I guess downloads are less expensive, though.

Even at it's maximum quality, it would still never match a Blu-ray's video and audio quality. In order to get blu-ray video/audio quality via streaming, you need an internet connection that could download 50GBs within the running time of the movie.

Blu-ray disks are extremely durable which is a plus for any collector, and if the XBox360 had blu-ray it wouldn't matter that it scratches disks and my second copy of Rock Band 2 would still work fine.

yeah, who needs them blue laser machines. back in my day, alls we needed was a telemajigger and wuna dem VHSamabobs. The toowadem was alls you needed to get your moving picture thing goin...

Naw, I can't imagine this being as good as blu ray, you could seriously press your face against the screen and find few to no imperfections. Considering how big blu ray movies are, they'd have to compress it somehow.

Blu-Ray movies are compressed too. It's just digital downloads must be heavily compressed and aren't as high quality.

Well, all movies have to be compressed. If you used the original master, you have terrabytes of data. The amount of compression is optimized for a 1920x1080 screen though. Remember, orginal film masters are designed to be viewed on a movie theater screen, which is many many times larger than a living room HDTV.

My dad almost beat me last month because our bandwith limit is 60GB/month and me coming home from college and I used 92GB of bandwith in about 15 days. Yeah, I appreciate what they're doing, but I'll stick to renting BluRays for my safety. :)death919

If it works the way they say it will that is impressive, but Blu-ray will still be better and will not be replaced anytime soon. Also I wonder what the audio will be like on these movies. I doubt you will get HD lossless audio from it like you do on blu-ray.

KratosTwin
itll probably b 5.1 just like what the xbox is supporting right now. not 7.1 wich is what blu ray has the potential to support

I agree. There is a reason most cable companies only offer 720p/1080i for the HD channels...the bandwidth needed to present 1080p content is massive. So I'm not certain how MS is going to stream 1080p content on the fly. It does sound too good to be true.I wouldn't be surprised if it wasthe more standard, lower def being streamed and the 360 upconverts it or something. So not TRUE 1080p.

BUt, if they can pull it off...

Im sure the millions of people with stand alone blu ray players still need blu ray and wont rush out to get a 360 to stream 1080p movies. It's funny how so many people try to discredit blu ray every chance they get but I bet Blu Ray will be standard in the next xbox. Then it will be so "awesome"!! Face it Blu Ray is here to stay.

But you are not the world. Alot of people watch some movies they buy more then once. And you can find blu ray movies for less then $20 if you look around.

You know, going to the video store and renting a blu-ray movie is probably a better idea than waiting 6 hours to download it.

I agree. It would take alot less time to go to your local Blockbuster then to wait for a movie to download. Especially depending on your connection speed.

Yeah, I doubt it. It will either have to be at a ridiculously low bitrate rate or rely on the user having ridiculously fast internet. How many people have internet that runs at a minimum of 20Mbps?

If it's the former, than I doubt it would look better than sony's 720p HD

Netflix on the 360 will never have more than a handful of movies (99% of them Hollywood blockbusters) anyway.

And who the Hell wants to pay to download software that they are only allowed to play for a few days?
