Yeah, I never understood why the 360 hard drives are insanely expensive. One of the most impressive things about the PS3 is that you can switch the hard drive with the one of your choosing and you don't void the warranty. In fact, they even tell you how to do it.

it's just a way to force xbox owners to buy the MS HDD therefore having a monopoly on HDD for the xbox. the casing is nothing really special.
You don't need a HHD for the 360 but you need one with the PS3 and with all the forced installs most people had to buy a bigger HDD for their PS3s, thats milkage.
If you plan on using XBL, it is pretty much required. You don't need a HHD for the 360 but you need one with the PS3 and with all the forced installs most people had to buy a bigger HDD for their PS3s, thats milkage.

It is not milkage when Sony gets no money for it. They aren't the ones making or selling hard drives. You don't need a HHD for the 360 but you need one with the PS3 and with all the forced installs most people had to buy a bigger HDD for their PS3s, thats milkage.

the manufacturing process is what makes the xbox 360 hard drive expensivemike4realz
The decision to not allow compatibility with 3rd party manufacturers of hard drives that work with PS3 and PC is what makes the manufacturing process for 360 hard drives expensive.

Maybe we should go into business together selling Sarcasm Detectors and Air Guitars.
So it's OK for Apple to force proprietary hardware and OSs, but not Microsoft?psychobrewThat's not even the same thing here. Were talking about the price of upgrading here not the buy in price (Of which most Macs are actually fairly reasonable if you take the time to investigate why they're supposedly "more expensive"*). Apple doesn't force you to by any sort of overpriced proprietary apple branded eternal HDDs if you want more storage space. You are free to use any USB external HDD you want.

Supposedly more expensive? I guess the minis are priced OK, but they are outdated.
so what ps3 game needs more than 20gb? it isn't milkage if you don't have to buy a new one. How are you going to play you 360 without buying new batteries for your controller or the play and charge kit? how are going play online without paying? that's milkage. ps3 has everything you need to play your games forever out of the box. even a hdmi cable is cheaper than the play and charge kit or some rechargeable batteries. You don't need a HHD for the 360 but you need one with the PS3 and with all the forced installs most people had to buy a bigger HDD for their PS3s, thats milkage.

One thing i've all ways said and many others have is that you should vote with your wallet, As well there are ways to get around the 120 gig price you can take 20 gig hard drives and modify them with a certain hard drive and special software to turn it into an 120 gig on the cheap so if your so worried about geting milked then do that.
As well yet again vote with your wallet voting with your wallet works with every thing.
P.S: its called making a profit basic economics microsoft buys the drives on bulk which costs alot of money and they want to make money off that investment.
P.P.S: most cows have no right to talk in this area hell even the sheep don't either since both nintendo and sony milked the hell out of their consumer base in every generation they were in.
^@imperaz above
ITs funny how you don't mention cpu, gpu, motherboard...ect you just mention ram or HDD like some how magically OSX works with just those components needed, Apple has been doing proptiery tech for a long long time they stopped because they were losing market share because of it people even their own rabbid fanbase were geting sick of apple hardware costing an arm and a leg when a cheaper PC could do the same.
It isn't till the last 1-2 itterations of OSX that it could work on most PC's because they had switched to an Intel code basing...ect before that you could not get an apple OS to work on a pc.
P.P.S: most cows have no right to talk in this area hell even the sheep don't either since both nintendo and sony milked the hell out of their consumer base in every generation they were in.I don't get how Playstation 2 owners were milked... (there fore the name cows) I got a PS2 and over 30 games... and all I needed to buy was one memory card (30$) and a controller (40$) at the time... Thats it, I can play all my games and everything... The only thing that could be considered milkage waas the multi tap thing... whis was imo not necessary at all...WilliamRLBaker

Most Macs are embedded systems, your innards upgrading options are about the same as any other embedded system. I don't deny that Macs are often times more expensive if you're comparing them solely on the internal specs but you have to understand that there's more to a PC then just it's processors. Macs tend to be more expensive because of how they're designed, For example an iMac is actually a laptop and comparing it to a desktop PC isn't really fair. The new MacBooks are expensive because they include a bunch of bell and whistles and are more difficult to manufacture then say a Lenovo laptop. However the old MacBooks (or the still in production MacBook white) are actually pretty comparable in price to most other laptops of the same specs. Now if you want something with a lot of oomph with out any extras and peripherals you don't need then obviously Macs aren't the way to go. However if you don't really need to much processing power but would rather just a PC that'll do your day to day computing activities smoothly with a bunch of nifty hard ware trick, then the price of a Mac can easily be justified.Charging for live as well a dlc is major milkage. Can anyone tell me why Live is actually a chargeable service, when I already pay an isp for my internet. Live is the biggest milkage I've ever known, made even moreso by the fact that people are big enough suckers to not only pay for it, but justify it's charge like it's some kind of complimentary gift from MS. Blind fanboysim and loyalty never fails to amaze me.
Let these companies know that charging for the internet twice, and next we will be paying yearly subscriptions to Sony, MS, Nintendo, as well as EA, Ubisoft and all the publishers for each individual game they release that has online.

Don't forget when the 360 ever gets an MMO. Internet service, Xbox Live, and monthly MMO subscription. Ouch.
I agree that the pricing is excessive, but isn't the drive specially made for the Xbox 360 -- which increases manufacturing costs because the process is more methodical? Nevertheless, HDDs need to cheap for PCs -- building gaming PCs are expensive as it is.Stevo_the_gamer
Which begs the question why M$ designed the 360 to require specially made hard drives in the first place instead of allowing 360 owners to throw in any 3rd party hard drive...

Speaking of electric bill, Greenpeace gave M$ a failing grade. Sony did much better. :)
