I dont know about the rest of SW but..
im tired of rebuying consoles over and over again..even if this gen is supposed to last 10 years..ill probably never buy another console again..sure you do with Graphics cards..but for some reason it feels different than rebuying EVERYTHING you just did in a few days..its like building a house only to have a tornado wash it away..
Hears to the PS3, 360, and WII..my last gen of consoles..
As inevitable as it may be, I would not like a new gen of consoles to come yet. I'm still enthralled by this gen and would like to see more, and maybe that will happen in the next couple years leading up to 2011.
But I might do something different by the time next gen comes. As much as I will want to play the new games, I might just build a PC and go from there. Who knows...
2011/2012 would be in line with the average console lifespan (~5 years), so I don't see a problem. And with so many changes and issues this gen (price, reliability, motion-sensing) I'd love to see what Sony, MS and Nintendo can come up with for their next-gen systems. PBSnipes
Exactly. Look, 2011-2012 would mean 360 supporters are LUCKY considering that would put the system at 6-7 years of life, way too many for an unreliable system with so many issues if you ask me. I say 2010 will see the next Xbox, 2011 will see a PS4 if Sony decides to continue on and a new Wii.
Although I think the PS3 has enough power to compete with the next Xbox and Wii, and the fact you can easily upgrade your HDD for cheap even adds to it's longetivity. But a new Wii and Xbox will be welcomed by me, personally. Both companies' systems have major issues. Wii's graphical capabilities and 360's limited storage space on their DVD's and high console failure rates.
2014 is the earliest I would want a new console. 6matt6
For me its 2012. It feels like this generation is going by so fast. Too fast.

ya as soon as i start getting higher paid sound jobs and move out of my house i'll prob buy a pc, not many more consoles for me
I second that. I am saving up for a top of the line Alienware rig, before buying another console.I dont know about the rest of SW but..

360 owners would want a new one around 2010-2011
PS3 owners= 2013-2014 (but sony would throw something earlier is M$ makes a move)
*** Wii owner= 2009 ***

LoL. Sad but true.
I've been saying it for a while now that I'll probably be skipping next gen consoles, and so far nothing has changed that way of thinking for me, and in fact I've become more and more certain that that is what I am going to end up doing. Not only do I have a lot of Wii and 360 games that I want to buy, many that have come out and I have not had the chance to get, and many that are announced and coming out in the near future, but I've also grown very interested in the DS and PSP, and to a smaller degree the PS3. And for me that's not even all of it. There are games on the Wii's VC and Wiiware channels that I want, same with the 360's XBLA and PS3's PSN, as well as the Wii's, 360's, and DS' (and if I get a backwards compatible PS3, then that too) that I'd also be interested in checking out. I also want to try and fully explore some games that I get, including online (which I haven't really been focusing on too much), and trying to get achievements/complete 100% (although I might not end up doing that for all the games, I'll at least try). So no. I don't want new consoles in 2011-20012. I might not even want the consoles that come out after that, although I do plan to eventually get back into "current gen" gaming, even if it takes me a while
At most, I might get the next-gen handhelds, if they are backwards-compatible.
I agree that a new console should be released every 5 years. That would mean a new Xbox in 2010 and Wii/PS in 2011. I would assume that most people are not early adopters, but personally I want a new system in 2010. There was 4yrs between the release of the Xbox 1 and the 360. 10 million people wanted the 360 in the first year, it seems that more people would want the new Xbox since 2010 would make it 5 years.
I don't think it would be too surprising to see the 720(?) released in 2010, the Wii2(?) in 2011, and the PS4 in 2014.
If a console is going to come out every 5 years then i might transition to PC gaming or not gaming at all. I personally don't want to put down $400-500(+inflation and taxes) on a console every 5 years.
Edit: Not to mention the game prices and having to buy new controllers and connections/accesories.

Well 6yrs has been the norm in the past, why is 5yrs so shocking? I guess I didn't mean all systems should be every 5yrs, I'm fine with Xbox being that way. Playstation should have a 6-7yr cycle.
I agree. In fact, I wouldn' t like to see another gen for 10 years or so.
Games simply cost TOO much to produce these days, and imo, the requirements of the new technology will hurt gaming more than it will help it.
Increasing the cost of game development will do nothing for the industry.
Think about the past. Game developers, in the PS1 era, could push out 60+ hour quality games year after year after year.
This gen we will probably rarely see a game that spans over 30+ hours(I am mainly considering JRPGs).
i do, 360 and ps3 already outdated by a lot thanks to the pc.
2011/2012 would make 6/7 years which is plenty for one gen. 10 years is bs, how many of you still care about the ps1 nowadays? by 2015/2016 the ps3 and 360 would be so outdated it would be like playing crash bandicoot on ps1 vs crysis

I do. :| Still play the Final Fantasies, Crash, Spyro, MGS, Tomb Raider, etc. Good times and memories...
But this doesn't mean I don't see what you're saying. :P
I agree with this statement... I think MS is going to drop the new XBox 2010-2011 to get a leg up on the competition and it will force Sony to think about building a new console.

2012 would be perfect IMO. But I have a feeling MS will launch the next XBOX around the 2010 holiday season.TREAL_Since
we all die in 2012 buddy.
I want one for 2010 at the latest. True HD as promised with Next-gen controls.loco145
So basically you want a Wii with HD graphics? I can definitely agree with that :D.

you and others who replied with yes probably make up 0.001% of all gamers. everyone has moved on, no offence.

You're stating that like it is fact. Hmm...
Not like it matters in the end, but I know plenty of people who go back and play FFVII, Chrono Cross, Resident Evil, Tactics, and others. There are plenty of people and I would be hard pressed to believe that out of the all the gamers in the world, only .001% care about PSone games still. If this were the case, people wouldn't buy retro games off of VC, PSN and XBL Arcade, or still play their SNES, NES, etc.
