Can't wait!! Going to be in the mail tomorrow :)

I would buy it at launch, but I am currently traveling, and I have no way to buy the game without actually hooking up the Wii U. Which, owing to plug differences, I now can't, and Nintendo, being Nintendo, has no infrastructure to purchase the game from a webstore like Sony or Microsoft.. Because of this, my MK8 purchase is deferred by just a couple days, but I should have it by this time next week. I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on this game!
Ugh, had to visit three different 24 hour Walmart stores to get it, but I finally got it. It wasn't sold out or anything, the idiots that work there hadn't unpacked the nights shipment, been to countless Walmarts for midnight releases of more obscure lesser known titles and that's nevery been an issue.
Anyhow, already at home loving it, already uploaded 2 YouTube videos, in middle of uploading a third. Video uploads are very compressed and ugly. The controls bug me too, they didn't map them out intuitively. A is go and X is rear view. It should have had a trigger-go trigger-break setup. Other than that, fun stuff.
I would have already gotten it, but the WiiU is such a Low Priority Gaming Item that (my) Walmart has decided to not have it in Stock ON LAUNCH DAY in their pathetic excuse of a WiiU section.
GTAV on the PS3? No Problem, plenty in stock at 7am in the morning on launch day.
Pokemon X and Y? Yes they total had that game fully in stock at 7am in the morning on launch day.
ElderScrolls Online? Titanfall? Battlefield 4? Infamous Second Son? Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes, we certainly do have someone stocking that on launch day for your convenience. But No we only got a few Mario Kart 8 Bundles in before Launch Day so sorry we can't sell you a copy.
This is the same store that had freakin' Bravely Default and Project X Zone out in the shelves on their Launch days too, so it's not like the 3DS is getting the same treatment the WiiU is getting, it's freakin' mind boggling. Ugh.

THIS X100000
What were they thinking! It's not a deal breaker, but just really silly. I've always played holding a button down since my NES days. It's also pretty ridiculous that I can't change control configurations.
@SolidGame_basic: Not me. I bought my Wii U at launch (I own two) but I don't like racing games. I will buy this for $20 a year or two from now. I'm in no rush and I may never buy it all generation. I own all the other Mario Kart games, but this franchise is just not for me.
hahahahaha. A Nintendo game for $20 in two years? Yeah right. It'll still be full price.
On topic though, I have it pre-ordered and will pick it up tomorrow. I'm also excited about getting Pikmin 3 free with it. Can't wait!
Since I don't like racers then I'll never get it, but I'm sure I will come across it on Amazon, Black Friday, or whatever for $20 it always happens. You'd be surprised the deals I come across at retail from Best Buy to Walmart to Gamestop to Target, etc. Just have to wait. If I liked the racers I would pay more, but I don't even care for this particular franchise.'
I already own Pikmin 3 and the other freebies they are offering so those are terrible incentives for me. I bought Pikmin 3 the week it came out brand new for $40 without breaking a sweat. Same for Wonderful 101. You need to be a savvy shopper.
oh yeah, hahahahahaha.
Plan to buy it tomorrow. It's a no brainer for Wii U owners as it comes with a free game (i.e. free download code). Currently deciding whether to claim Pikmin 3 or Wonderful 101.

You should still get that key and hold on to it or go to a Game Trading Forum and see if you can get another game out of it. Also $35 will be the lowest you'll see it and it'll be used.
nintendo games are not worth full price. they are good arcade titles that u play when u are bored of everything else but i wouldnt play full price of them.
No. And the price of their games rarely if ever go down.

the free game is either zelda windwaker hd, pikmin 3, new super mario bros, or wii party u

I'll buy it new and I will find it cheaper in two years than $35. When I do buy it, I'll probably gift it since I'm not a racing fan, but I come across deals all the time. 2014 Mario Kart's launch year and by 2016 some other game will be hot and this game will be yesterdays news. By Black Friday 2014 there will be deals galore on Wii U games including MK8, if not this year then next. There will be deals for this game, but closer to $40 this year, but next year it will go down for savvy shoppers. I know this for a fact, I've owned all the Nintendo consoles since launch and I've been at this a very long time. It's amazing what waiting and knowing retailers operations will do for a consumer. The MSRP will be $60 for a long time, but I almost never pay MSRP. I would do it for MK8, but it's just not my kind of game.
Trading in a forum dealing with codes is too much work (and it would require me to purchase a game I don't care for and won't play more than a hour), but I would consider that if I liked Racers which I don't. I own all the Mario Kart games and I'm just not a fan. It's one of the more fun racers, but I'm never going to spend $60 on a racing game. I feel the same way about sports, some genres people just don't like. It's clearly a good game with an 89 at metacritic, but it's a genre I'm not into. However, I know I'll come across copies of it within two years for cheaper than $35, and if you wanted to play the used game...craigslist and other options are out there, but I'm not even worried. I'll pick it up for $20 two years from now, maybe...depends on how I'll feel. I may see it for that price and walk on, I've done that countless times before for what many in SW would consider a fantastic deal/game. Retailers will surprise many of you, always needing to make space or offering B2G1F, B1G1F, or just simply huge % Discounts, etc just to make room for newer games.
People don't realize the deals retailers offer when it's close to xmas.
It is true though Nintendo keeps their prices high for long periods of time, but I won't be operating under normal pricing conditions when I look for a deals on maybe games like MK8. Maybe games being games I have a slight interest in.
I'm seeing a trend of disbelief in my two year window. I'm tempted to link this thread and post a receipt for ownage in two years, but by then no one will care..and probably the detractors today will tell me they figured I'd find a deal. It's a lot of work and time for a game series I just am not fond of. I like Zelda, I like Metroid, I like Mario...just not into Mario Kart.

Well you mentioned Craigslist and that's probably where you're getting your Ninty games cheap. Mario Kart Games rarely go to the $20 range in Retail store. If you do manage to find one for that price, tell me where you shop cause that must be an awesome store.
Me buy it soon. Haven't played anything on my WiiU since last Christmas with Mario. (will get Donkey Kong eventually but burnt out on 2D Platformers at the moment)

Yeah Imma get the Wonderful 101 I think :3
Sad to see USA doesn't get the choice to get Wonderful 101. I think I'll get PIKMIN 3 because I've never played any game in this series before. Mario Bros. U is too safe a choice.
Hey everyone, if you were on the fence about choosing Pikmin 3 as your free game, or if you already have Pikmin 3, know that Nintendo just released a patch which really brings forth gamepad support for the game. @Pikminmaniac How do you think this will change the game?
Nintendo just issued a major update to Pikmin 3 – it’s now being billed as Ver. 2.0 – that seems to have been designed specifically for them. Now Pikmin 3supports full stylus controls. You still control your captains with the analog stick, but you can now tap the screen to aim and throw your Pikmin, giving the GamePad the same precision control available through Wii MotionPlus.
As long as you’re dragging along the screen, you’ll adjust your aim. Tapping the screen causes you to throw the Pikmin (or captain) that’s currently in your queue. For other actions – like dismissing your group, opening the map menu, or activating a special spray – Nintendo’s added touch-sensitive icons. You’ll toggle Pikmin using the squad icons at the bottom-right, and switch between available captains using their icons at the bottom-left.

**checking promotion in europe**
whaaat?! such bullshit, they got Nintendo Land for the promotion in Europe, and Monster Hunter, I totally would have gotten either if I had the option, I already had Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, and NSMBU
grrr, I just downloaded Pikmin 3 digitally even though I have it on disc, I had no choice, not like I was going to get Wii U Party, figured it would be fun to just dive straight into it from time to time if I get bored without having to swap out the disc
Pikmin 3 is good though, you should like it
I'm in the middle of Okami right now, and if I have time I still have No More Heroes and Batman Arkham City on my backlog, so I'm gonna try to get through as much of those as I can before I get MK8.
Cause I can buy the game anytime before August 1st and the promotion is still available right???

You could probably get about $30 selling your physical copy of Pikmin 3 on ebay.

Holy Moly! I'm going to have to update my game. One of thethings that bothered me was the inability to play the game accurately on the gamepad due to the fact the control scheme was clearly tailored for the Wii Motion Plus control method.
Before trying out these new touch controls, I know they will be an improvement over analogue, but still not as strong as the Wii Motion plus option which offers precision aiming and the ability to switch Pikmin/captains while keeping your aimer focused on your target.
UPDATE: These controls are superb. The precision the touch controls give you are the best of all the different control types available. You can also switch pikmin types with the R trigger while your stylus is not touching the screen.
I got it and downloading Pikmin 3 nao. First I wanted to go for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, buuut I already played Monster Hunter Tri and I saw a Let's Play for Pikmin 3, it looks like one of those sleeper hits. Sleeper in that nobody talks about it, but it's getting secret rave reviews from users and critics.

Perfect. Probably the way I'll be playing it then! I would have been damn disappointed turning the game on and not being able to play with the Gamepad, but my goodness Godtendo pushed out the update right as a bunch of people were going to get it. May Mario bless you all in the name of the power, the wisdom, and the courage. Amen.

I've never used Craigslist in my life. I rarely buy used. If I wanted to save money fast and used, I would go that route as you brought up used. I only mentioned Craigslist because you spoke of used and in absolutes. I already mentioned the retailers I use that will have sales : Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, Target, Gamestop, Shopco, Radio Shack, Fry's Electronics, Sears, Toys R Us, Kmart, and quite a few others are all worth checking out on Black Friday weekend. You are referencing $20 as an MSRP when I'm talking about sales. These games go on sale and then days later resume normal price. I understand this is hard to believe when paying $60 for such a long time, but these deals are out there. I actually will pay top dollar for a game I would play a lot, but I know even then I could save money if I wait just a month. In Mario Kart 8, I will have to wait longer, but I'm in no rush since this particular franchise isn't my cup of tea.
It's not an awesome store, it's awesome stores, plural. I also explained why, it's because of waiting on discounts and retailer overstock. It's because retailers are competing to get customers in their store over the competition. This is been going on since the Genesis/SNES days and further back and really picked up steam in my life in the PS1-N64-Saturn. Again, the same applied in the GC-Xbox-PS2-Dreamcast era. I lost some go to options when Hollywood Video, Blockbuster and KB Toys went under, but there's always other shops that get in motion. As video games grew in popularity, so did these sales and even better many of them are matching each other. It's crazy what one can save just by waiting months, and I gave myself a two year window when I posted.

SolidTy's first post:
"Not me. I bought my Wii U at launch (I own two) but I don't like racing games. I will buy this for $20 a year or two from now. I'm in no rush and I may never buy it all generation. I own all the other Mario Kart games, but this franchise is just not for me."

What is shocking to me is my post above was granting me a two year window is very relaxing and it wasn't designed to get such strong responses from two Nintendo/Mario Kart fans, but I was just speaking from two decades of shopping experience and in a very soft language. I enjoy the Wii U, but I am just not an eager beaver with this particular racing franchise. Your posts and his post took me off guard considering my initial mild post above was just so distressing to a few and I was forced consider why. There was a sense of justification and disbelief that one could buy this game for $20 in two year's time. There was a revelation as I took for granted people's perceptions of how retail stores actually work. In a way, the responses speak volumes in their own right. One doesn't have to work retail to know how the system works, but it helps. There are deals randomly as well all the time during summer or a week here or there...but what I have learned over the decades is hot hit titles can hold their own price (within $20) until the big blowout sales. Once an after Holiday sales start nothing is safe, when the sales season starts everything must go. The consumer dollars is what they want and deals fly at your from every direction.
I'm going to remember this conversation and maybe if inclined I'll snap a picture if I even buy the game in two years but like I said, I hardly think anyone in 2016 SW will care that I bought a MK8 for $20 at that point, which means I would just be taking a picture for you and that other guy.
I just played the Mushroom Cup earlier. game is gorgeous as hell. I can see this game getting more fun as try out the othe cups and move up the harder difficulties and try to 3-star everything.

Another rehash... I mean seriously, Nintendo's consoles are so predictable. I can predict their next crappy console will have a 2d Mario, a 3d Mario, Mario kart, smash bros., one Zelda game, and a few other flop exclusives.
Got it yesterday, had a day off, so I played all day. Getting the 3-star rating was pretty easy, as you just have to win 60 points in the GP this time around. Your rating doesn't go down from falling off the track or bumping into obstacles. So in the end it didn't take me more than a few tries on each GP.
Also, a tip for people wanting to get the 3-star rating on each cup: you are not obliged to do this on 50cc and 100cc, as performances earned on 150cc will automatically translated to the lower classes. You will have to do Mirror separately, though.
But yeah, great game. Can see myself playing this for a long time to come.
