Tell me your thoughts on who would win in a huge alien war. The Combine from HL2 or the Covy from Halo. I'll post my opinion later.:)

Combine, by far. They control multiple dimensions ;)

The only reason they get pwned by Freeman is because Earth is nowhere near significant to them and the guard there is puny.

The covenant throw their best at Master Chief and get pwned.

Well, from what we've seen in the games, probably the Covenant.

But if you look into the Universe of each game itself, I would say the Combine would come out on top.
The Universal Union (the combine) are a multi-dimensional race. They were chasing down Nihilanth's race during the events of Half-Life. When the portal opened, aliens taking refuge in Xen came through. The whole ordeal also attracted the attention of the Combine.

The Combine Forces we fought in the game, along with a few Synths like Striders, were mainly human and earth based. Soldiers created from humans.
The Combine empire, being as large as it is, is bound to have a massive variety of soldiers at their disposal, in a massive variety of sizes and power.

The Covenant are a powerful group of alien races, but that's really what they are. The Combine have an empire spanning multiple dimensions.

The Combine would also take the cake (no it is not a lie) in terms of technology. Covenant weaponry appears to be plasma-based. Combine weapons appear to be Dark Energy based.

Whats more, the Combine, once defeating a few of the covenant forces would gain the knowledge of how they fight and would undoubtedly make even more soldiers and combat synths out of them. Imagine a Covenant Scarab, fully equipt with Dark Energy based weaponry, like those warp-cannons on the striders.

The Combine decimated the combined military might of earth and set up shop in seven hours.

I think the Covenant, if you read the books they can easily wipe out a whole planet, and the forces on earth would get completely wiped out by the covenant. Of course, they do control multiples dimensions/universes and their forces are probably much larger than they appear, but seeing as how we haven't seen the true extent of their power we have to judge off of what we have seen, in which case the Covenant wins. Easily.

Funny though isn't it? The Combine conquered Earth in seven hours with a fraction of their total force, yet they're being compared to The Covenant, who get dominated by the Master Chief.

Why am i not surprised to see you here. *sigh*

The combine would win i suspect. But the covenant isn't to be underestimated Mr Chief hardly "dominated" anyone, in halo combat evolved it was complete gorilla warfare i wouldn't call that dominating. Then you have to take into consideration the flood, who got involved and changed the outcome of battles a lot.

Theres a lot to consider but yeah, the convenant would probably wind up lighting the rings, killing themselves alongwith any combine it'd wipe out the convenant but the combine would carry on. :P

Innovazero2000

The Combine Freeman fought was a splinter-force of their empire. The splinter-force was comprised of synths, and earth-born Combine soldiers.
If the Combine got their forces through from overworld, chances are, Gordon would have been rather... overwhelmed.

Gordon Freeman is owning the most pathetic bunch, just human converts mainly. Master Chief gets the best of the convenant thrown at them and gets owned.

Hmmm.. The Combine probably.... But would activating the Halos count as a win? Probably not, the Combine would just retreat into one of their other deminsions....

But! What if it were: Combine vs. Covenant vs. Space Pirates vs. Scrin vs. Chimeras (SP?) vs. STARMEN. That would be awesome, Giygas would just own the entire feild:)

While I am a fan of Earthbound, Giygas really has no room for merit. I mean, considering the fact he's been beaten by kindergardeners twice, I'd believe he would be too embarrassed to show up.=P

The Combine are hardly being owned by Freeman. In fact, unless Valve decide to be epic-lame with episode 3 by including a "gun dat destroyz all teh dimenshuns but nat da one it's in", they'll never be completely beaten.

not true, we dont know what other species or alliances are out there, if the humans paried up with another force in Half Life 3 ( Whos Gman with?) they may be able to take them down, but im guessing that wont happen till after episode 3 and when the next half life comes out.

I'm with the other guy. It's easy to say "oh, but they are an empire spanning multiple dimensions!"... Meaning? The Halo games do a much more comprehensive job of fleshing out the size, capability, and ferocity of the Covenant forces in comparison to the Half-Life games, which leave the extent of the Combine military fairly mysterious.

The Combine could well be a lot more imposing - but at the end of the Half Life forces, you don't really know that. The type of tremendous capital ship battles present in Halo 3, or the brutality of the attacks described in Fall of Reach... Nothing I've SEEN in Half Life really matches that - though, so much about the Combine is unknown, there's a good chance they're worse.

The Combine hands down, the greater fight would be The Combine VS The Flood. But The Combine would still win because The Flood where a blatant rip off of The Combine.

[QUOTE="smarb001"]I think the Covenant, if you read the books they can easily wipe out a whole planet, and the forces on earth would get completely wiped out by the covenant. Of course, they do control multiples dimensions/universes and their forces are probably much larger than they appear, but seeing as how we haven't seen the true extent of their power we have to judge off of what we have seen, in which case the Covenant wins. The Covenant were fighting an Earth centuries ahead of the one present in Half Life 2, facing an enemy that had its own fledgling empire in space, and they showed absolute military dominance over pretty much everything earth could throw outside of the Spartans. It's apples to oranges - if they kicked the living crap out of interstellar Earth and all of its colonies/military outposts so badly, I can't imagine Earth from Freeman's time lasting even seven hours against them.

Oh yeah. Ummmm. I pick... Combine. :)

No, but really, the Combine would just send out synth and completely dominate everything, with little effort what-so-ever.

[QUOTE="Doom_HellKnight"]Well, from what we've seen in the games, probably the Covenant.

The Combine decimated the combined military might of earth and set up shop in seven hours.FancyKetchup25

Funny though isn't it? The Combine conquered Earth in seven hours with a fraction of their total force, yet they're being compared to The Covenant, who get dominated by the Master Chief.

Whats so funny about that? The combine is getting owned by Gordan Freeman, who sorry to say his suit is nowhere near the level of master chiefs mark armor.

Dude, don't even mention Gman. For all we know about him (very little), he could destroy everything with a single motion. Regardless, he's still a brilliant character.

Let's see...

The Covenant use all their forces to attack the humans, but get their asses kicked.

The Combine overtake earth in seven hours. And the Combine don't even fight themselves. They just use synths and enslaved forces. Only actual Combine we've seen was the Advisor. >_>
