Why all the Hate on Halo 3: ODST (And Halo in General)

There seems to be a trend on SW lately, that whenever a game with a screenshot of guns is shown, it is immediately compared in intricate detail to Halo. It seems that it is placed in a microscope twice as big, and with a lens twice as deep.

I just played the day before yesterday, and Halo 3 is still as fresh as when i first put the disc in the 360.

Any reasons for the hate? Or is it just the latest trend / fashion??

I know I have hate for the Halo series because I believe it to be over praised. Many of it's innovative features were done before on other platforms than the Xbox. It's sequels are the same way, offering very little in the way of groundbreaking features yet they get praised like they reinvented the wheel. I don't believe that you need to be groundbreaking to be good but many Halo fans need to open their eyes and see the series for what it truly is: average.

Its a popular and high rated exclusive series.

It's a FPS, once a game is a FPS I don't like it.

Halo 3 ODST is an expansion and at full price.

Halo 1 had the best campaign, most people didn't find Halo 2 and Halo 3's campaigns to be that great.

Halo 2 and Halo 3 didn't add much to the genre despite the high scores.

People find Halo overrated because of what I said.

am not a fan of halo but its not a bad game the fact that it has a big fanbase and sells good are reasons why some people like it and some hate it

i was a fan of halo 2 and would play it nonstop until my xbox lens stop reading disc

i gave halo 3 a try but got tired of it fast

I hate it the same way I hate Britney Spears. I think it gets praised and hyped for all the wrong reasons and it's mostly popular among teenagers.RedruM_I

I quite understand what you mean, but comparing Halo to Britney Spears???? Come on!

Of course, it is not going to be the best for PC / Mac / Linux gamers, as it is much slower, but for console gaming, which is more popular to the general population, it is extremely good, and is different to the brown/gray coloured shooter games nowadays. There is also a lot of community features too, such as file share, Theatre mode, and Forge. It isn't modding, but close enough.

Also, there are quite a few teenagers, but what's wrong with that? There are a lot of intelligent teenagers, but if you find any idiots, there is a mute button!

Halo,despite Fanboy oppinion is a benchmark in gaming,so a place like SW is going to have alot of people hating on it simply because its on one console only,the Cows have a really hard time dealing with Halo and being the most vocal and bitter Fanboys in SW they constantly bash the game.Its success,sales,reviews,online community,longevity....is far too overwhelming for them.There is no other game that comes close to the ammount of love and Fanboy hate in here.Its a testament to how great and huge this game actually is,every other game fades away and is quickly forgoten in SW and in the real world but Halo is always there.I find it hilarious that so long after the release of all the Halo games people still cant deal with it.Halo is the king and makes any Fanboy who dont own an Xbox very insecure.

Because it's one of the best FPS games available, it's very popular, and scores incredibly well across the board.

Oh, and let's not forget you can't find it on Playstation or Nintendo, so of course there's a ton of hate for it :)

What does not build on what comes before?? If a game did not build on what came before, then it would suck, and have graphics the level of Doom. How many FF games have come out?? 12? Compare that to the number of Halo games, which is Four ( 5 on Sep 22).

Anyway, I do not consider Halo as milkage, until Halo Golf, Halo Strikers Football, or Halo Kart comes out.

Oh yeah, and Master Chief and Marcus Fenix at the Olympic Games, which will be an awesome game. Characters will include:

• Shepard (Mass Effect)
• Master Chief (Halo)
• Marcus Fenix (Gears of War)

It's not that I don't like Halo, I just think it's severely overrated. From my experience, it's just an above average sci-fi shooter. The main reason for it's popularity was because it did what it did well enough and at the right time to launch it into popularity. At that point, all you have to do is ride it out.

Some people don't like Halo because of one reason only. Jealousy. The best FPS series of all time can't be played on the Ps3 or Wii. This makes the fanboys angry. That's my take anyways.

It's extremely popular, it's the most critically acclaimed shooter series which gets fanboys jealous, it's only on one system and then you have the way some Halo fanboys behave (anyone who bashes Halo is a "cow", "insecure fanboy", etc) which doesn't really help. Let's go through the list on PS3, as that is in your name:

• Killzone 2- Call of Duty with stupid campaign and cookie-cut dialogue- GENERIC
• Resistance- Regurgitated Halo with some novel weps- GENERIC
• Call of Duty- Counter Strike with better graphics, and no teamwork- GENERIC
• Uncharted- Combat was fail, and puzzles are like Tomb Raider - GENERIC

Before i get my flame shield out, i would just like everyone to know that I actually like all of these games, and enjoy them when playing. But there is a phrase; if it ain't broke, don't fix it. All games are generic, as they are tweaks on the formula. Get over it, and go back to playing the games that you love. Calling Halo generic isn't going to get you anywhere.

Pretty much, the more popular something is, the more it gets hated.

I hate it when people assume that someone who might have actual reasons for not liking a game is simply doing it because of its popularity.

It's a popular exclusive title. The same can be said about most popular exclusive titles on other platforms. Especially on system wars.

Because ODST is out in 12 days and they have to get the majority of their stuff in because they know like the past 3 halos and even halo wars it will smash sales and pretty much outsell most ps3 games and Wii games.

I hate Halo 3 because it's an overrated, crap game that isn't any more or less fun than thehundreds of FPSs that came our before and after it.

Yeah, but then that typical reason breeds the typical response that we see here. The longer it goes on, actual discussions about the game become irrelevant and it just turns into a stereotypical assumption match.

Halo:CE for me was an average game and could only get better but it didnt.

You're on the internet, which is filled with a bunch whiney people who choose this as their outlet of emotions.

Not only that, if you can find a game that no one hates on, you let me know.

I don't hate Halo, but it just overrated IMO, well the first one that is (only one I played). It was still a good FPS game, but to me it not as great as many people claims it to be, and I played much better FPS games.

Jealous fanboys try to comfort themselves by bashing the game. It happens all the time, especially with Halo.
