I always wondered this. With my previous Core2Duo & 8800GT, Starcraft 2 took an hour to install. Gears of War took ages to decompress and install. But why are people making a big deal out of a 1 minute install on ps3?

1 hour download maybe, but a 1 hour install? uhhhh, no way...15 is the longest i've ever experienced that isn't a blizzard game....blizzard games take long sometimes, lol

and it's a big deal because it's a console...you should just download it and it should be ready to go like the 360

i don't want my consoles trying to act like a PC

Not one single game I've done a full game install with has ever took over 10 minutes.

Edit: Oh wait... he said decompress and install.

Question... why are you decompressing?

I usually install my games in less then 5 minutes, sometimes 10 minutes. 90% of the times. And i can tell you from the bottom of my heart, i played so many games out there, i lost count years ago. So..

1 hour install? WTF?

The last huge install I ever saw was Gears of War which had a 30 minute install from the DVD.

Otherwise, the install time is almost nil on Steam when you don't include the download time. Starcraft 2 took about 5 minutes.

And it's not a 1 minute install on the PS3. Installing the Dead Space Extraction demo took around 5 minutes, maybe longer. If you count the download time, that's another 10 minutes tacked on.

Also... are were u downloading and installing SC2 at the sametime through blizz downloader?

He said he had to wait for Gears of War to decompress, and Gears of War legally purchased has decompression I think.

Because consoles aren't supposed to be PCs. Also the installs can be much longer than 1 minute, you can't do anything while it's installing, you still need the disk in drive afterwards, and often the game still has hefty loading times.

SC2 took ages to install for whatever reason, but 1 hour definately isn't standard, and if you buy from steam there isn't a separate installation at all.

Maybe that's why it took so long to install from the DVD. What a bad system. Anyway, why would Starcraft 2 take an hour for him then? Pretty sure that had no decompression to sit through.

I don't even remember the last time I had to wait a noticably long time for a game to install on my PC. Then again, I mostly play games through Steam, so most of my games don't even need to be installed. It definitely takes me long to install anything on my Xbox harddrive than it does for me to install anything on my PC. Perhaps there's just something wrong with your copy of Starcraft 2, TC?

1: I can't think of any PC game that took me an hour to install.

2: I can't think of any console game that's ready after a minute if you do indeed install it.

If Starcraft 2 took an hour to install you may want to use the chkdsk command to check your harddrives for errors.

I've had plenty of pc games take a long time... Wait 5-10 minutes, switch disc, wait 5-10 minutes, switch disc again, etc. Maybe not an hour, except in the case of something like FFXI, but 30 minutes easy. And most of my pc games have still required a disc in the drive to play.

Dunno, I've never installed it. Another poster mentioned it taking that long for them, too. But people are calling him a pirate based on him saying decompression, when the only thing he said about decompressing was in regards to Gears, which others have said has decompression for the retail version. Therefore, the people calling him a pirate are idiots. Maybe he is, but there's nothing in his post to suggest it.

World of Warcraft is probably the only game that might take some time to install, usually due downloading the patches if that counts. But not even that takes a hour.

Also steam games = epic win.

Mainly because consoles are meant to be put in and play. Not install custom settings, mod, adjust settings. If you can't put the game in and play it, it kinda defeats the purpose. Install time is expected for pc. But since when is a 1 min install a problem? And if you only have to do it once?

Except it's not a 1 minute install, but I don't really mind it that much. I can find something to do on my PC while my PS3 installs whatever it needs.

Really? 1 hour and 1 minute? In my experience most PS3 games take ~ 2 minutes to install while PC games take ~12 minutes to install.

Because: 1) We get mods 2) faster loading times (even faster than installed games on consoles) 3) never have to put the disc in ever again. what advantages are there to isntalling on consoles? oh right... couple seconds off loading times, and much smaller hardrives, whoa, amazing.

Yup. It could easily be a faulty HDD running in PIO-mode or something, everything takes ages to do.
