Yeah. There really should be a strict standard of 720p this gen. They made a big fuss over the dawning of the HD-age and we get sub HD resolutions.
I blame the Wii.
Seems pretty poor really. Especially after all the hype regarding the GPU.teh_cell
For real "high def" gaming your only choice is the pc, when I play crysis,ut3,cod4,tf2 ect then look at the same games on my 360 or ps3 it's just sad (the last 2 games).
Consoles are getting better but not close to the graphical level on pc. Next year pc games & hardware will get even better. What's really funny is how bad wii games look compaired to 360 and ps3 games let alone the pc lmfao.
Are there ant PS3 exclusives that are not at least 720p internal rendering? Seems quite a few 360 exclclusives fall short. The rason COD 4 isn't fully 720p is because of the Xbox 360.teh_cellCan you prove that with an independent link?
Case in point: Bungie decided on its own to render Halo 3 internally at 600 because it enabled them to implement HDR, which they felt was more important than full 720p native rendering (especially since the 360's internal scaler would be capable of making the small accommodation).Because developers and most people agree that increased graphical fidelity is more impressive than an increase in resolution at the cost of fidelity.
Only the PC will give high both.

Very very few games on the 360 or PS3 run at 720p or even 1080. Not even the almighty GT5.gromit007Last I checked, the latest test build of GT5 (at the TGS) was playable at 1080p60. Care to prove me wrong?

I wish you could take fake HD games back that would force devs to be honest and not lie about it like bungie did with halo 3. Why not put the real specs and say hey we dropped the rez to get hdr ??
Why lie then get busted later for what a spec on a box that many gamers with a 360 don't even have a hdtv to see ??
Why should you care? How does it improve/disprove gameplay? Why do we sound like PC gamers arguing over stuff like this?Hexagon_777Half truth, twice lie. That's why. We don't like liars and unfulfilled claims. We've had enough of them to last a lifetime...or at least a console generation.

Yea, but this sounds pretty technical for a console gamer.

So let me confirm this.....you're trying to say that GT5 doesn't run in AT LEAST 720p?
Are you sure about that one? If that's the case, you may want to qualify your statement with "oh, yeah, I'm lying, but...."
that's nonsense. Some, not all. try, just TRY to keep some reality on this forum. it's not "liar wars"Always-Honest
Yeah....but apparently PGR....COD4.....Halo 3.
Are there any others that any of you guys know of?
I believe the reason for sub-720p resolutions on the 360 has to do with tiling being a pain with the framebuffer. Sub-720p resolutions can actually be processed without tiling by the eDRAM die.

Oh, I didn't realize Bungie made the actual standard 360 fine print, which one would logically assume to be the work of Microsoft or some other external team. You learn something new everyday :roll:Yeah. There really should be a strict standard of 720p this gen. They made a big fuss over the dawning of the HD-age and we get sub HD resolutions.

HDTV owners are still in the minority, so I don't see what the big deal is.

The big deal is pc gamers have had 720p or better in the nineties and finally consoles get it but it's gimped. Don't make hdtv gaming a major selling point then make fake HD games. Also what about use hdtv owners the minority who are getting the shaft ??Really it's almost 2008 720p real hdtv should be the native rez by now of console games for the 360 and ps3 imo.
why don't PS3 games upscale to 1080i?...while all 360 games do...
-D3MO-
720p is better than 1080i. Why would you want that?
[QUOTE="lowe0"]Because, as much as both Sony and MS hyped their consoles, the hardware to do 1080p just isn't available in the price range that makes consoles affordable. As for gromit007
As for........WHAT!!!!!
I cant take the suspense, man....tell me....
Well, I don't remember what it was before, but it's now "As for Gamespot's crappy coders that wrote their comment text box control, they should have their hands severed so that they may never again write another line of code." Seriously, half a post got cut off.The PS3 actually has less games that are native 720p than the 360. Dude, where did you read that COD4 was in 600p because of the 360?:lol:DarthKalo
The PS3 has less games in sub-720p resolution than the 360....
What is your point?
The PS3 also has more native 1080p games than the Xbox 360. To my knowledge, the only game on PS3 that has sub-720p resolution is Call of Duty 4. This game is a multiplatform title. Microsoft, to my knowledge, has two FIRST PARTY titles that are sub-720p resolution. Which titles? Halo 3 and PGR4, two games known for their visual splendor. The PS3 has no first-party titles in sub-720p resolution.
Any questions? Does that not illustrate boldly why COD4 is in 600p? Do you really think it's because the PS3 can't handle 720p?
Does anyone actually care?michael098
Of course we do and of course we would.
As someone else said, PC gamers have been enjoying 720p plus resolutions for a long time now. I for one have been playing in 1280x1024 for almost all of my PC games since 2004....and I'm no PC gamer, I own a PS3, a PS2, and a PSP.

What the heck are you talking about "most games?"
TOKYO -- Sept. 20, 2006 -- Today at the Tokyo Game Show 2006, Microsoft Corp. delivered information on new and improved entertainment experiences for Japanese gamers, including details of the Xbox 360 library of nearly 110 high-definition games available this holiday season in Japan, which will include the highly anticipated "Blue Dragon" from Microsoft Game Studios.
http://kotaku.com/gaming/xbox-360/shane-kim-talks-360-1080p-game-output-201816.php
Kim was clear that the console could support true 1080p out.
"If it is running at 720p we will up-res it to 1080p, if it it's already 1080p then we can display it in 1080p," he said. " This is a great example of our console's ability and the great advantage of being a software company."
