Sorry haters, but why put a upscaler, when infact your very own hdtv does this already. A game at 720p is infact 720p no matter how nice YOU THINK it is that its upscaling to 1080p. If your tv is infact 1080p its already doing it for you, but no matter what the game is still 720p. Geez. Yall really think the scaler in the 360 is better than a nice hdtv's scaler? MS gimped on everything but they put a great scaler in their console? Really, geez they would have been better off putting a console together that wouldn't crap out on you than do something your tv already does for you.

Because developers have to adapt to the lowest common denominator which is the 360 and then port the game to the more powerful system which is the PS3. It wouldn't make sense making a game taking into account the PS3 capabilities and then porting it to the 360 to see that it can't handle it so they must do it the other way around with the 360 first in mind. Apart from that, time and money constrains make the porting to PS3 a difficult task since the PS3 is pretty tricky to develop for so the optimization of code adapted to a more traditional architecture like the 360 is not always possible.

Because the XBOX360 is more powerful than PS3.That is why all the XBOX360 games are on 1080p resolution but most of the PS3 games are on 720p.The 360 it have better graphics card. Pixel Fill Rate with 4x Multisampled Anti-Aliasing Xbox 360 - 4.0 Billion Pixels/sec (8 ROPS x 4 Samples x 500MHz / 4) PS3 - 2.0 Billion Pixels/sec (8 ROPS x 2 Samples x 500MHz / 4)Panosola

Microsoft lists 1080p upscaling as 1080p, Sony does not. If it says 720p on the back of the PS3 box, it's 720 on the 360 vers. as well.

360 upscales lower resolution games to 1080p, PS3 doesn't upscale anything so games run in their default resolution regardless of what the PS3 is outputting the game at, hence some 360 games will have noticeable upscaling artifacts while some PS3 games will have noticeable aliasing

it'd be easier if they could just produce 1080p graphics buuuuuuuuuut they're both too weak to do that with most games

lucky_star

WRONG The 360 has a Hardware upscaler, the ps3 upscales by software. Examples: CoD4, GTAIV, MGS4

i actually own all 3 of those for the ps3, and none of 'em look great at 1080p, ps3's software upscaler is weaksauce

Don't know why people talk about upscaling like it's a good thing, you like seeing a 720p image stretched over a 1080p resolution?

People seem to have trouble grasping this concept and I mean a LOT of people.

I just keep telling them that if playing in 1080P is so important to them, they should be playing on PC.

actually it's a lot better than seeing a lower res image fullscreen on a higher res screen. upscaling does help. just look at the difference between playing a dvd with and without upscaling.

well of course being able to run a game natively on 1080p is the best. but like i said, playing an upscaled game is still better than playing the same one on a non native resolution.

That's a DVD, video, which isn't the same as 3D graphics.

Honestly people are probably sat too far away to notice, but if they saw a 720p image on a 1080p resolution up close they would see how fuzzy it is.

yes that's what i said. the upscaled 720p to 1080p would be less fuzzy than a 720p image on a native 1080p screen.

that's because most games are developed for the 360 and then ported to the ps3. when the reverse happens, as with final fantasy 13, you get this :

Though the screenshots were of low quality, including one with a mouse pointer over it,[67] analysis suggested that the Xbox 360 version runs at 576p, as opposed to the PlayStation 3's native resolution of 720p.wikipedia
and this:
Final Fantasy XIII on the PlayStation 3 will feature lossless audio and uncompressed 1080p cinematic cutscenes on a single Blu-Ray disc, while the Xbox 360 version will feature 576p cinematic cutscenes using Bink video and be divided into three DVDs.wikipedia

generally speaking. most 360s are 1080 while the ps3 usually tops out at 720. even if its an upconvert, id still like to take advantage of the two thousand dollar tv i bought...

WRONG.

ok ill say this then....every 360 game i own is 1080. EVERY SINGLE ONE. i cant say the same for the ps3. why?

Ahh, you're a sucker for Microsoft's lies.

Can you give us some examples?

I'm pretty sure the overwhelming majority of games on both 360 and PS3 are either 720p or sub-HD.

Yes, actually both consoles the majority of games are 720 or sub 720... very few and I mean VERY few are actually 1080 this generation. (Upscaling for PS3 and 360)
