Well, I guess a $500-plus price tag doesn't seem so bad compared to 700 large. Yipes. The difference between Panasonic and Sony is immense, though. Panasonic had how many consoles before the 3D0? Sony has had two highly successful consoles. I don't think their third is going in the crapper just yet. This bad boy has many GOOD years left on it. Peace.

The funny thing is that the 3D0 was introduced a full 2 years (in NA) BEFORE Sony even got into the console market, and it's not like Panasonic was an unknown brand at the time. Way back then, it was the most technologically advanced console, but was marketed more as a high-end multimedia device for the living room, which was how they thought they could justify the cost. To me, that just sounds eerily familiar.
As for the PS3, it does have the Playstation legacy which will ensure that the console will still sell, but the high cost of ownership isn't helping. History has show time and time again that no matter the features, video game consoles don't sell well when priced over $300. Note I didn't say they don't sell. Every console this generation is selling, but only the Wii is sellingnear the levels of the PS2 during the height of its popularity, which didn't occur until its price was dropped to $199.
