Why are people complaining about the new 360? They are putting in an HDMI port and a new HDD, and the HDD will be available to current 360 owners to just buy at the store. So basically they are just adding HDMI capabilities, which isnt even a big deal b/c the 360 can already do 1080p through DVI. So tell me, whats the big deal, since they really arent adding anything that current 360 owners cant get easily/dont already have?

Actually, it does 1080p through component and VGA. But either way, I'm glad that future 360 owners will get the extras...

Problem is you're assuming that there are only two types of 360gamers: Those who've had the system quite some time now and those who are going to buy the new version. What you haven't thought of is that there are a lot of gamers who bought the system just recently or want to have one right now. Me, for example, I want a Xbox360. I have the money, I have the motivation, and wouldn't it be for "Project Zephyr", I would walk into a store and buy one. It's just not entirely pleasant to go and spend 500+ € (including games, WLAN adaptor, XBL etc.) on the 360, knowing that sometime in '07 Microsoft will release a new, definatly improved model with better graphics-output, a bigger HDD, IPTV, probably make it all a bit more stable, etc., and make the one you are going to buy 100$ cheaper. I don't blame them for updating their system, everyone does it (PS, PS2, DS, Wii (In Japan)), but with these major improvements I would like to have A) Official word from Microsoft as to the Whats and Whens B) The possibility to send my old Xbox to Microsoft and (for a little cash) get the new model. Right now, I really want to get a X360, but am forced to hesitate to do so because of Zephyr.

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you are, but I wont have the money until around May anyway, so it doesn't matter much to me. And I agree that MS should probably (and it would be smart to do this with all of these leaks) put a confirmation date on the project.

I seriuosly doubt that M$ would announce now that they are coming out with a  new 360 in May. Don't you see how damaging that could be? 360 sales could potentially slow even more as everyone would wait until the newer model came to market.

It's not like this will force people to buy a new 360.  The only significant differences:  HDMI and a larger HDD.

HDMI isn't needed for gaming.  And the HDD is detachable.  I think it's a pretty safe bet that a larger HDD will be available separately alongside the launch of the newer SKU.

Games will play the same.  Live will work the same.

So no, all you chicken littles out there.... the sky is not falling.

My 360 already does everything I need it to do. And my HD TV is fantastic and takes VGA and I use Optical for my audio so HDMI is worthless.

HDMI is pretty damn stupid once you actually have an HDTV and a good sound system and you realize that your sound system doesn't take HDMI.

Then you need to split your video and your audio like you are supposed to in the first place which kinda makes HDMI the dumbest thing ever created especially since it offers absolutely no improvement in quality at all.

VGA for video + Optical for Audio is >>>>>>>>>>>>>> better than HDMI.

HDMI sucks.

Don't need more HDD space since all my music, videos and pictures are all on my PC. TV shows get recorded on my PC using the Tivo functions of Media Center. Storage is cheap and plentify on my PC and I can always upgrade that for a whole lot less money. I think have over 208 gigs free on my PC and that's from 320 gigs.

Frankly I have no idea why anyone would be upset about anything. The bottom line is my 360 plays games and everthing else is just icing on the cake.

I don't disagree with you but the PSone, slimPS2 and DS were pretty much cosmetic redesigns. They didn't add anything drastically different compared to their predecessors other than the size (exception is the PS2slim which added ethernet capability built-in at the loss of hard drive capability.) What Microsoft is doing is different, they are basically adding stuff that can't be added to current 360 units. PS2 with the old unit could easily add a ethernet adapter to their console. You can't say that about the new 360 (if it comes out.)

HDMI is useless at the cost of a surround sound system + optical for audio? lol I like how you put it. Just because you seem to own a surround sound system and have your 360 connected using VGA + Optical doesn't mean everyone else does or plans on doing it. You can use optical alongside HDMI just so you know. PS3 does it.

because ppl was wanting those things before 360 launched, but MS came back and said, 20gigs was enough, and HDMI is not important at this time. then guess what a 1yr later they come out with some new 360. guess what man sony came out with the slim line ps2 4YRs after, not 1yr after.

so yah alot of ppl that i know that bought their 360 this past xmas are pissed. and the funny thing is MS made fun of sony for having a hd bigger then 20gig and having a hdmi. Saying sony is only making a media machine. guess what MS are now coming out with the same concept it seems. so was the 360 rushed or MS playing Hypocrite as ususal.

you are right, they do with OS such as win 2000 , a year later Win ME, then a year later Win xp. they just love milking us. this is my last time buying a MS console. i like my 360, but i feel it was rushed now. and im tired of MS milking us over and over. they screwed me over on original xbox, by stop supporting it.  i got to give SOny props, they still support their last gen players. now that shows me i can trust them. MS on the other hand just screwing us and milking us. i love my 360, but it could of been much better .

Just because you seem to own a surround sound system and have your 360 connected using VGA + Optical doesn't mean everyone else does or plans on doing it. You can use optical alongside HDMI just so you know. PS3 does it.

Yes, that's exactly my point. It's useless.

Let's see.

Before HDMI existed I used the following:

VGA + Optical.

Now that HDMI it out... I still use this:

VGA + Optical.

Yeah that about sums up absolutely useless. HDMI is absolutely worthless to me.

No. HDMI carries both audio and video. It's an improvement over component in terms of picture quality, however it's NOT an improvement over VGA or DVI. The biggest advantage of HDMI is it's audio capacity. It puts optical to shame, it can carry up to 13.1 channels of surround through Dolby Digital Plus. And HDMI is the only way to get ucompressed 5.1 and 7.1 though DTSHD and DDP on HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Oh, and will need a new receiver with all the latest stuff built in etc. But all of this has nothing to do with gaming. I for one will buy the "improved" 360 because I'm a fan of the HD-DVD player and the lack of HDMI really hurts. I don't think the vast majority of people will care.

Well i don't own 360 but i think it sucks to do that to 10 million "old" 360 owners. Ok HDD part i can understand, big deal, just buy it if you need it and put it on your "old" 360. But to put HDMI, kinda sucks. Don't give me that crap "O it doesnt matter you already have 1080p!" Then why are they putting it on new 360? I always considered Microsoft "backstabbers" and they will just confirm it to me if they released this new 360. As they will do it i am more than sure.

Why would they officialy announce it? So that salles of "old" 360 stop? Many retailes have confirmed it or something like that. But you wont hear anything from Microsoft, until last minute.

I don't care if they release another 360, since I'll never buy one anyway, but people wanting this should be happy. Can't see why anyone would dislike Microsft for doing this..

because consoles cannot do the same thing that handhelds can....

This is still a rumor but if this is true that means they are making a totally advanced version that does not have attachments and can output a much nicer picture, probably doing more than there two things.

The DS did this with Lite but it was a smooth trasition from a handheld that basically got more vibrant colors, nicer design and more convenient. But Nintendo let everyone know from the begining. SO the way MS is doing it is wrong and it is milkage. It is pretty easy to see the difference between Nintendo's DS Lite and this HDMI/HD DVD 360 that came out of nowhere.

So tell me, whats the big deal, since they really arent adding anything that current 360 owners cant get easily/dont already have?
bloodychimp

HDMI is the best connection available.  I want some kind of adapter for the old 360 to be able to use an HDMI connection.  Otherwise I'll be pissed.

Plus the people that buy the new 360 with the bigger HD and HDMI connection will probably get some kind of discount on it which screws old 360 owners.

I also think its just crappy for MS to modify the 360 after a little over a year of being released.

[QUOTE="Imallvol7"]you have to be kidding me, not a big deal? hdmi, bigger hard drive, black, iptv, quiter, and you guys arent pissed you got fooled into buying the lame duck version??? im so glad i listened to the rumors and waited while ms repeatedly lied about the zephyr

It's not going to play games any differently.

HDMI's only significant impact is with movie playback in 1080p
black?  No.  That was a debug kit
IPTV?  that's a firmware upgrade at most. If you're talking about the larger HDD, it's a safe bet that larger HDDs will be available separately as well.

Lame duck?  Mine still looks fantastic on component (which by the way can output 1080p for games)

I don't see why people, especially the Sony fanboys get all up in arms about this marginal iteration.  It's not going to force me to get a new 360.

Again.... not a big deal.

If this rumor turns out true (this soon...) this is  telling one thing about MS that all know, but dont want to admit, and a aspect that MS looses against Sony and Nintendo (to a lesser level...Nintendo tends to do the same in the handheld market anyways). MS will simply disconsider its earlier buyers, alienating its fans and bringing problems to themselves.

If this Zephyr is able to play HD-DVDs games, the fanboyish claim that more space isnt needed goes down imediately. This, of course, **** their fanbase. All the PR wars that has been running in the last few months goes to hell if this rumor goes true.  And Im dont even speaking about the price, the principal fanboy weapon against Sony....Do you think this will be cheap? Not likely.

So, it turns true, the MS fanbase got ******.

Thats my opinion on this Zephyr project rumor, but this is exactly this. A rumor. One that will problably not happen (as so many others).

Well it could be used as some pretty big "ownage" towards the cows. They always scream how the PS3 has blu-ray,hdmi,and a harddrive bigger than the 360's...now the Zephyr(if its true) has a 120gb hdd, hdmi port, and hd-dvd drive built in...for $480...much better than the $500 PS3 and cheaper. Now cows are saying ":cry:Microsoft is milking you!"...when they really know its "ownage" towards them.

NO that is incorrect. Nintendo is the least to milk its fans. The handhelds are the only thing that it redesigned but it only minimally upgrades. At the most better lighting, better design, and its more conveniently small. They also maintain the price. What MS is rumored to do is basically adding alot more especially for graphics whores who drool over the miniscule effect of HD on gaming. Current 360 fans cannot fully upgrade their old 360s to what this rumored redesign could be and with the stuff they can by its just a crapload of addons and adapters.

PS2 had a couple of redesigns like PSX and the latest one. PSX was milkage but it was a failure the second redesign was just making it smaller and sexier so it was justified. But Sony basically milks its fans with everything thats why they are called "cows." MS has been very loose with redesigns with their PCs and now alledgedly their consoles.

Note the bolded, please. These are my main points. And while some of your points are right, I did forget to get more direct at what I call the Nintendo doing the same as MS. While Nintendo does exactly what you said, its quite common to simple forgets the previous handheld and go strong to the next one. Example: a friend of mine bought a GBA. He loved, and so did us, for he let us play as well. Soon enough the DS came and behold, the GBA almost or died in games. My friend got pissed, and so did the rest of us....So you see, its like MS and its previous consoles. They abbandon the users as soon as the newer one is out. So, there is the 'TO A LESSER LEVEL THAN MS'.

The core X360 is even still on production? I dont know. Its quite a while since I've saw one, and thats was when  i was in Japan last year, in a trade in store, for the price of a Nintendo DS Lite. I've never seen one here in Brazil either.

This Zephyer is a rumor that is creating great waves on the net. And while I think it will be directed at the  'graphics whores' as you call'em, if it comes to be as I thought it can be, MS users/fans will be being 'milked' as you  say. In such a little time.Thats what piss me off. If this had come to happen in the end of this year, or the next one, I wouldnt be this concerned about. And that was my opinion. You have yours, and I have mine. All the three will 'milk' their products, one way or another. I just think that coming out this soon with a redesign, pushing the same thing they bashed about their rivals is simply pathetic, specially if it ends prejudicating its fanbase.
