Why are people excited about Mass Effect?

I mean, it's a good thing lemmings don't get sick of shooters because if they had any interest in variety the 360 would be a pretty boring console.

How many like 80 percent of their exclusives are shooters? And as soon as they're done with one they look forward to the next. I understand it's an rpg and lemmings try to classify it as a RPG instead of a shooter (why wouldnt they?) but that element makes the game worse, before you use a weapon (or even pull the trigger) you got to stop and select. And it's doing the whole sci fi, ripping off Halo's originality (thats right I said it.... ORIGINALITY).

As far as the past few months go, a lot of lemmings purchasing order went like this, bioshock, halo 3, orange box (like 5 friggin shooters in one purchase), call of duty 4 and now Mass Effect. Honestly, I lovea good shooter too, dont get me wrong, but hell I bought a console for more than just shooters. I know the 360 has more than just shooters but all a lemming talks about or hypes is their precious shooters.

You guys have fun with Mass Effect though, I hope you guys enjoy reading too, because thats what gaming is all about.... reading dialogue

Why are people excited?

A. It's a Bioware game and Bioware makes fantastic games

B. It looks fantastic.

I am worried about the whole mass effect hype. This game simply cant live up to it, because the expectations are simply insane. It will be a good game, no doubt about that. But it wont probably be what many gamers want it to be, just because there wont be a perfect game.

I can see the threads with "AC has better graphics!" "FF has better leveling and story" "Shooters are boring" and stuff. If you develop a game you have to decide WHAT you want to make. In its category of ThirdPersonShooter-RPG it will for sure be brilliant, but many people will dislike it, as others would have disliked it if it was roundbased or fantasy instead of sci-fi.

Conclusion:

It will be a good game for sure, but it wont be the Messiah of console gaming thatsome fanboys want it to be.

Okay, one: "before you use a weapon (or even pull the trigger) you got to stop and select;" you have no idea what you're talking about. Your abilities and weapon selection require the radial menu, but everything else can be done without pausing the game (shooting, taking cover, grenades, etc.).

Three: "because thats what gaming is all about.... reading dialogue;" again, I hope I have this in the right context... aside from the 1-3 words for each response in dialog, reading is kept to a minimum. The entire galactic codex, as an example, is entirely narrated for those who don't wish to read it--that's hours of voice acted, completely optional, background content.

c) pausing is optional and is very similar to the ratchet and clank wheel

The fact that you complained about reading in a game shows that you're new to gaming. I've been gaming since the Atari days, although I enjoyed the NES and Commander Keen series more, so technically, I am old when it comes to gaming. I know spoken dialogue is good and fun to listen to when it's done well, but fact is, reading in games increases your word vocabulary and reading speed when it's done for long periods of time.

it's not. although there are some similarities.

kotor was my favorite game last gen. so thats why i'm excited.

oh and about the dialogue. theres isn't as much reading as you think. from what i can tell from videos, your conversation choices are very short sentences that show the direction of what that line will say, not the entire line (thats how it was in kotor). everyhing also has voiceover so theres really not that much reading. you still might not find the conversationsinteresting; just thought i'd point that out.
