I believe there is a WW1 game coming out soon called "To End All Wars"

It's supposed to be a super gritty war game. I hope it turns out good.

NinjaMunkey01

pretty badtle choice though. It did not really end anything.

We had WW2, cold war, vietnam, gulf war, Iraq invasion...

WW1 was called "The War to End All Wars" back then so I think it's a pretty good title choice.

Yeah I already knew that.

What I meant was the title to the ACTUAL war was bad, not the game. The game title choice was good.

I mean if the person who named the war saw all the wars we have had to date, would he/she still call it the war to end all wars?

Sounds fun.

Because the United States played a very small role in World War 1, devs like to capitalize on bloody stupid nationalism it seems half the time.

Maybe because most of the WWI were in trenches? It could be boring if in the game it will take place in trenches.

Im guessing its because the US didnt play quite as large a role in WWI as they did in WWII and seeing as how all these WWII games have u playing as an American soldier...it could pose a problem :P

edit: Forgot to mention that WWII also had some epic battles that are just far more exciting and memorable.

Because when we look at WW2, we find a clear winner, a clear reason for fighting and a clear sense of moral mission.

When we look at WW1 we see a conflict where millions died for god knows what, where the resolution was inconclusive, and the result was the decline of Europe.

Danm_999

At the beginning of WWII the reason for fighting wasn't too much different than WWI in that the people who had heard of the concentration camps didn't believe them and everybody else was playing clueless. It wasn't until the war was pretty much over did that reason for fighting actually come forth.

And it doesn't matter if the west only remembers trench warfare and the boring bits that's all the more reason to make a game w/ the more action parts. Aparantly from reading this thread video games are the largest source for history for people here.

(1) They could always make a video game that does not aim at Americans.

(2) I really wish there would be a game where you play as an Axis(NOT Nazi) soldier in WW2 and some how give an idea of what the Holocaust was like inside the camp.(No I'm not saying making a torture game just witnessing it)

And also fight against the Allies.

Lonelynight

1) But then why would a developer go out of there way to not make money?

2) A game where you fight for Hitler kill jews in camps and slaughter americans... I can see developers lining up to make it right now.

Oh yeah, there is enough source material, its just that the only genre people are discussing is an FPS.

Seriously, with the new call of duty being set in WW2, i've been wondering, why are there no WW1 games. It would be more interesting than another WW2 shooting game.littledoug
Because trench warfare is boring as hell.

Naaah, you guys are putting too much emphesis on the stationary part of the war. There was plenty of other action, say Mogadishu, or even just urban combat. Besides, I think a couple battles in trenches have potential. A night raid or two? A charge over the line, hopping from shell crater to shell crater? Maybe a stealth mission or two? Sniping levels? Some dogfights? There's potential in here. A couple people have mentioned the Americans, and how they did nothing in the war, which is why this game has not been snatched up by American developers or the like. That's untrue and unfair. The American's entry into the war was a key turning point and seriously helped in beating back the opposition. So 'nyaaaaah' to you! *sticks out tongue* And for everyone here who's been making comments remarking on how boring the war was, I'd like you to please go do something with your life. You're obviously to sheltered. You have no idea what you're talking about. There were boring times for the troops, sure, like when they were stationed off the front lines (which was actually where they spent the least amount of their time), but when they were on the line... That was another story altogether.

lulz, WWI games would be boring as hell, most of the warfare was trench based.

If it was just dogfights and aerial combat, that would have some potential.

An RTS might be good too. An FPS would suck though :P
